hi in need for some parts for a seat ibiza glxi on a 1996 reg the most urgent is a condenser for the aircon but if there is anyone out there that knows of anywhere that i can source other parts for this car i would be very gratefull as there are not many of this make of car around now Read more
You do not say where you are but I have assumed its in Ipswich from your forum name.
A quick google throws up www.breakeryard.com for both new and secondhand SEAT parts. I don't know what they are like as I've never used them but they and other parts sourcing websites are worth a try.
You can check out parts availability on line ( note that their phone number is an 0900 premium line so be careful)
Alternatively give Seat UK a ring and ask them for sources in your area and they can hopefully point you in the right direction.
Has any Back-Roomer had any experience of the Toyota Avensis 2.2 175 bhp diesel? HJ speaks well of it and it the performance and economy figures look promising. (Emissions look low, too.) I've arranged a test drive of an Avensis, though I may not get to drive the high-power diesel version. I've been impressed with my Peugeot 306 HDi and I might not want to change it. Can the Japs really produce a refined diesel? Read more
Its still 80k on my 2.0tdi vw golf according to my latest receipt , so mr sweeney you are correct.
I need to sell my Father in law,s old car seeing as he has passed away and we are sorting out M-in-law's affairs.
It is an R reg fiesta 1.6 Ghia. not sure how many miles, it will not be above average and it has slight collision damage on the hatch. a years mot and taxed till October.
I am going to move it up to my place rather than have strangers coming to her house. I need to sell it quicky but without giving it away.
Any ideas on price, or how to sell, I have never sold a car privately exept to friends I know nothing about auctions but there is one near where she lives on Tyneside.

Worth £500 - £600 without actually seeing it (these things usually have rust somewhere, under the petrol flap, arches etc), and the fact its a 1.6 might put some off (over the 1549 cc threshold for cheaper road tax).
Cheers.
Hi all,
Looking for a bit if advice on a payment issue with a Saab Dealer, I'll tell you the story so you will know where i'm coming from.
I have got a 9-3 Linear Saab and if you have one will know just how terrible the stereo is, so i went about upgrading it with the dealer, they quoted £150 on the phone @ saab info, but they neglected to tell me this was if the car was new, mine is not, its a Company Car (55 reg) so dealer quoted £477 for the ES1 - 7 upgrade, i wrote to saab and got £100 voucher for my troubles.
I spoke to my work and asked if i did it through Hitachi Capital (Leasing company) could they take it out my wages over a few months (didn't want £377 out in december! or anytime actually!!) they agreed so i booked it in and gave the garage the voucher, now they should have billed £377 to Hitachi as agreed with me, then they would bill my company.
This is where i think they have tried to be clever, they have just sent the paperwork off and given me nothing apart from the key at the end of the day thinking that it was just another bill lost at the lease company, however if anyone has a hitachi car on here, you can access all details online, and they have billed £469, so that would make it £569 without my discount, quite alot for 3 speakers and an amp that is put into a already pre wired car i think, and to be honest still sounds like a 1981 ford fiesta.... no infact worse now!
I have approached the garage and they can not give me an answer every time i ring they are looking into it!
I'm not saying they are delibratly taking advantage of lease drivers but wanted a bit of advice on where to go with it.
Thanks

This reminds me of the time I ran a 900 turbo 16v 2 door.I had bought this car from a Saab main dealer at 12 months old and supposedly an ex Saab GB car.
The car came with a 12 months Saab warranty ,which was run by a third party company.
On its first service in my possesion, I was informed that the car needed a new air mass meter but not to worry as this would be done under warranty.Over the next year, the car needed a repacement gearbox due to a very noisy pinion bearing.Shortly after the gearbox replacement, the clutch started to slip badly so yet another warranty job.
I always thought that suspicious but let it go.Later on the gearbox developed a lot of play in the driveline to the extent that the transition from power off to power on
resulted in clunk in the driveline somewhere.By now the car was out of warranty and the dealer now said that this was just acceptable wear and tear and no way would he replace the gearbox again.
It turned out through a heated debate, that the original gearbox had not been replaced with a new one but a reconditioned one.
After all this I decided to sell the car and wrote to the warranty company asking for list of all repairs that had been carried out by the dealer under warranty.
It was quite a list, but the thing that made me vow never to use that dealer again was the fact they lied about the replacing of the air mass meter to the warranty company.
They did fit the air mass meter and I know they did because I saw it,but they charged for a new ECU which on investigation cost three times the amount of the air mass meter.
There was a lot more woe that happened to this car because of that dealer but too much to write here.
Needless to say,the dealer princip;e and I had quite a ding dong argument and I was banned from his dealership. He is a rich man now !
Bumped into an old friend of mine today whom I had not met for several years. Years ago he ran a garage and was one of the best 'body men' I knew. Bad health and family problems led him to give up the business and last I heard he was driving a lorry doing recovery work. Today I discovered he has three full time recovery trucks on the road and hires another if too busy. Business he says is booming and the unreliablity of modern cars has allowed him to extend his business and semi retire at the same time. Interestingly he tells me that the two garages that he gets most business from locally sell Renault and wait for it ....BMW. Toyotas not what they were and Nissans no better. Honda still pretty good and Mazda consistent. Merecedes he tells me isn't bad at all but A class is not up to scratch. I asked what he was now driving - an Audi S3 that has been excellent. Interesting chat though. Read more
There are more cars on the roads and the average mileage covered has increased. Therefore there will be an increase in the number of problems even if the percentage is constant.
Heard today that my old eGT that I'd sold to a colleague at work had been sent to the great parking lot in the sky. He only got £40 for it at the scap yard.
I was wondering, in between the sobs, whether or not I should have offered to go halves with the cost of work needed just to know that it was still on the road. It needed new brake pipes and a little welding to pass its MOT.
I know you shouldn't get sentimental about old cars but I really did love that Primera and its engine was still like new even after 120k. Just feeling that a good car should still be around. Read more
I'm too embarrassed to reveal what I changed it for, but what made it worse was that I flogged it off to a local dealer at an ok price (knowing it would get marked up) and then the bloke round the corner bought it and ran it for several more years !
He probably wouldnt have bought it from me privately as the dealer has a good reputation, but I regretted not putting a for sale sign in its window.
I have a 51 reg Passat TDI. A few months ago, someone forced the lock trying to break in. The lock is wrecked but the lock barrel is still there. Even though the lock looks like it is wrecked, I can still stick my key in and open the car. Worse still is that I can stick in a screw driver and still open the car. The difference with the key and the screw driver is that when I open the the lock with the screw driver, the lock opens and all the window wind down and the alarm is still active. Will changing the lock fix this problem? Does anyone know how much this might cost? Read more
This is a long-standing security flaw on the VW range. VW don't seem to care about it. Someone who knows exactly where to apply the pressure can open the windows without much damage to the lock at all.
The best solution is for the dealer to disable the feature with the diagnostic system, but if you asked them to, they'd probably just grunt and look stupid.
Hi , I witnessed an accident which may eventualy be seen on traffic cop tv.
Ahead of me on the A1 dual carriageway a patrol car was following (well back) a car being towed at 50 mph by another car, the car being towed did not have an "on tow" sign in the rear. The tow car was, in my opinion following too close to a pickup ahead of it and the car being towed was swaying from side to side. The pickup was overladen with a load of what appeared to be brushwood which could have been blown off at any time as there was strong croswinds at the time.
Taking all this into consideration I decided to hang back behind what was going on ahead of me. I followed for a mile and then all of a sudden the pickup took a sharp turn to the left , the tow car braked, the car being towed collided with the tow car and ended up accross the two lanes.
What surprised me was that the pickup just carried on his way when he clearly must have seen what happened behind him as there was a loud screeching of brakes and a cloud of dust and smoke from the t.yres. Admittedly the tow car was driving too close to the vehicle ahead but the driver of the pickup did appear to make a last second decision to take the left turn.
The patrol car immediately stopped the traffic behind and went to the assistance of the driver of the towed car, a young lady who was clearly shaken up. I was eventualy directed slowly past the scene by the patrol car driver.
A few things come to mind here, should the driver of the pickup have stopped, was he technically involved in the accident ?.
Could the driver of the patrol car in some way have anticipated what could happen in the circumstances and somehow prevented the risk of an accident ?.

..and let's be realistic, how many people would really stop if an accident happened behind them *especially* if they thought it could potentially be pinned on them?
Hi there every-one. Well, i have just got the car back from the garage this evening, the leak in the engine was a split hose that connected from the engine to the heater matrix, hence my slight loss of coolant, and the strange putty like odour (antifreeze) A right sod of a job to get at and replace they said, and i am sure it was. Secondly, with regards to the water entering the drivers side floor when it rained, they said they had soaked all over the windscreen area, and no water came in. How-ever, when they opened the drivers door, the seal at the top of the door, about the centre top had droplets of water on the inside, and are confident that it is dripping in from here striaght to the floor, when it is parked up and raining hard. The seal looks ok, anyway, they have bent the door, ever so slightly to make a better seal at the top of it where it is coming in.
1. What would one suggest to make the seal better. It does look fine.
2. What could i use to clean the rear of the engine hoses with, as they are all stained with brown coolant from a leak from the previous owner. I have a power washer.
. So sorry to be so long winded. A BIG thank-you to you all, Happier graham.

I was looking at the MG ZR myself, but the bad press & the insurance was enought to put me off!
