Yesterday I drove from Newcastle to the deep sarf down the A1(M)/A1. Although I wasn't desperately short of petrol but getting low, I decided to fill up at Leeming Bar services - all the signs on the A1 indicated a full range of services including fuel. When I got there, there was the remains of what had once been a petrol forecourt. Now, it's clear that this has been disused for some time - dead as a dodo and large concrete blocks diverting the services road round it.
My question is, who maintains the signs on the main road showing the services? Clearly the petrol symbols should have been taken off or obscured the boards, and I'd like to make this entirely logical point to someone. I assume it's the Highways Agency - can anyone confirm this?
BTW, I don't think they were signposted until you actually leave the A1(M), but there's a Morrisons just off the first exit you hit from the north for Boroughbridge with petrol at sensible prices, not the leg-lifting 94.9p/litre at some of the service areas. Read more
Hiya everyone, And happy new year!
I just joined and am looking for some help if possible.
I recently bought a Chrysler Voyager from the Dealer above {Note: Name now removed - DD} over the 'net, And I have had no end of problems trying to get it sorted, The car wasnt as it was
described and there are faults the dealer is trying to push onto the warranty people, and they are not having any of it.
I emailed the owner the first day and all ive had is excuses, now he is trying to say fair use for age and price - I paid £9450 for a 98k Limited edition that he
described as "immaculate", tears in seats , parts missing/ scratches on panels, gears crunching, bonnet cable snapped, aircon not working, etc.etc..
I have sent a letter to him and email but he hasnt replied, I assume i take this further with the courts now ?
thanks in advance for any info, and I hope this is right place to post !

Best to do some research before spending £10k on a car. Most Chryslers best avoided S/H IMHO - dodgy electrics, air-con built for 5 mins etc etc. I have got tangled up with Chrysler cars before and build quality is poor - they are like a lot of US stuff, made to last 5 years and then scrap it. That's why the Americans are all buying Japanese.
TBH this car will never be right, a Voyager with 100k is likely to be clapped out. Try to P/X it and get something better, or take dealer to court on basis of car not being of 'merchantable quality' and try to get your money back. If you are in AA/RAC maybe they can help?
Re the above, can anyone pleae advise if it is necessary to mount a remote servo before the master cylinder, or could it be fitted in the line after the servo and achieve the same results?
Thank you Read more
The servo on the Fiat is much more likely to be a direct acting servo rather than a remote one. By direct acting, I mean that the brake pushrod passes through the servo, to the mater cylinder, and the servo effectively adds some actuation force directly onto the pushrod.
On the Morris, because the master cylinder is located in the chassis rail, it is very difficult to put a direct acting servo between the pushrod and the master cylinder, so a remote servo, which acts on the hydraulic cicuit only - the servo can be physically mounted anywhere relative to the master cylinder - indeed, some cars have two remote servos, one for each circuit of a dual cicuit system.

Right all it's decision time, im about to buy either the Ford or Vauxhall badge. Both 03 reg the fiesta going for a slightly higher price.
Which is really the better buy?
In my previous topic it has come to my attention that there more corsas written off then there're of fiestas, but is the fiesta any safer & more solid then the corsa due to it's slightly heavier body? or am i just a bit cynical?
Any thoughts welcome!

Previously had Corsa's as courtesy cars. Only one I didn't like was the one that had one cylinder short of an engine under the bonnet - namely the 1.0 litre. All the rest were fine.

I've got a 99 206 1.9 diesel thats got a vibration between 1500 - 2000 rpm through the gears and at low speeds. Its not in the engine by the sound of it, more like a loose metal shield or something vibrating. Anybody got any ideas what it might be? Read more
hi try the heat sheild, i think there's 1 mounted near the centre box. if not there try near the down pipe.
I remember in the past seeing threads on here about using an 'auction buyer'. One chap (Joe Dowd?) was mentioned, but are there others that regulars have used and can recommend?
What happens if the auction buyer gets you a car and it turns out to be dud? After all, they get paid whatever the outcome, don't they. Read more
I second Joe's service. Having bought a number of cars during the last few years, I cannot fault him. Very honest and straight talking (Irish) gentleman.
Hi - I've just had to have a new instrument cluster installed on my 2003 Ford Focus. I'd had problems with the speedo, fuel guage and rev counter all going haywire then settling at zero and not moving! I've done some research and it would appear that this is quite a common fault with the Ford Focus. Has anyone any idea how I can find out if Ford have issued a technical service bulletin on this? The only ones I can find are from America and I don't know if they're valid over here. I'd like to have some ammunition so I can contact Ford re this. Also - now the new cluster has been fitted, the mileage is showing as zero - does anyone know if this will cause problems if I resell the car at a later date? Hope someone can advise!!! Read more
you cannot always migrate the mileage from old cluster to new
just ask the dealer to stamp it up and verify mileage , was your mileage still on the cluster , then it is fne ?

Thanks for the tip, but I had a long drive ahead & just wanted to get filled up & back on the road. Even so, surely someone must be responsible for blocking out the petrol bits on the signs - not exactly a major engineering feat!
