Details required please for an Astra estate 1992 rear window washer - does this have a seperate pump/motor/ reservoir system? and if so where is it located?
All comments appreciated.

wbd,

I assume you can still hear the motor pump when selecting the rear squirter?

If so, then try swapping the two pipes over and see if what was the front output now squirts the rear, and vice versa.

If not, then it *could* well be a dodgy wiper stalk. Also check to see if there is a separate fuse for the rear wash.

perforation would be just that - pimples showing through the metal showing corrosion.
surface rust on an inner door edge - well niot so severe.
I did not have annual inspections - youservice a 1.3 Escort yourselve.
And they lent me a new Fiesta for the week that it took to do.
But of course that doesn't mean Ford would act like that again, but it helped me buy another Ford from the same garage- albeit many years later, I have a 2005 Zetec Mondeo now- petrol thank goodness.

Here's a strange question: anyone ever had problems with adjusting headlamps on a Vauxhall Tigra? My friend has a Tigra and she keeps adjusting the headlights only for them to quickly go out of adjustment again. Any ideas? Their default setting seems to be "too blimming high" or words to that effect. Read more

Also, if they're hella, take the cover off the back and poke your fingers in to make sure that the innards aren't floating around, if so, they'll jump to another position when you go over a bump.

I had the cambelt changed on my Passat at 59k miles last August by an independent specialist. This I am told this included replacement tensioners and water pump. Last week, at 63k miles, the stud fastening the tensioner to the engine block failed causing nearly £2,500 worth of damage to the engine, warranting a replacement cylinder head. According to the specialist who fitted the cambelt (and is carrying out the repair) the kit supplied to replace the cambelt does not include a replacement stud. He also said that the stud on the Passat is 10mm in diameter reducing to 8mm which apparently used to be used on the Golf but has now replaced by a continuous 10mm stud. Why has VW not done the same for the Passat? Is this just bad luck or was the original job suspect.

Do I have an recourse against either VW who supplied the cambelt kit or the garage that carried out the work. Or is this just bad luck?

Any thoughts would be welcome.

Cheers

The tensioners were modified around that time from a hydrolic type to a normal sprung loaded roller, but if you have the old type you stick with it. The studs dont come in the kit because you dont normaly need to replace them. The nut is resonabally tight which is always replaced (20 to 25nm + quarter turn off the top of my head.) hope this helps? Good luck!

Hi Guys,

Got a prob maybe you can help! Bought a used Xantia ignition switch, with remote key and roof sensor from ebay. I've tried them out yesterday but nothing happened!
Remote seems to work as Led Flashes but there's no sign of communication with sensor. Do you know how to reprogram the remote or where can I ask?

Please advise,
Thanks,

try asking on www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/viewforum.php?f=3

it sounds like the key need programming to the roof sensor. What mark is it, as mark 1 use infrared, and mark ii radio frequency

Toyota are not like that and Nissan are actively looking to
transfer their plant to mid europe.

AB, how do you know this?

Because they have teams actively looking for the best deals available to set up new plant in the new industrial centre of Europe. You will have noticed that PAS along with VW,Kia,Hyundai,Toyota,Opel,Porshe,MB are all opening or have opened plants in this area the reasons low labour costs, a very willing workforce, good quality engineers, massive financial incentives,a better tax system and extremely good transport networks .This is the new growth area of Europe everything from Coca Cola to Tesco,Dresden is the new microchip centre every man and his dog makes chips there when Siemens closed its plant in Newcastle due to lack of trade or so it said its new one was ready in Dresden so I never believe a company when it says we are staying here.Even China has managed to get the old Rover plant working you can move factories in weeks anywhere you want Lada produce close on a million vehicles a year with Dacia around 350,00 on one model alone the UK is just a minnow the total car industry would fit in the backlot of VW Wolfsburg..

We have a 1.9 dci Scenic 2004 - Ocassionaly the automatic handbrake doesn't release on driving off. So far, this has only happened when my wife is driving alone. It has never happened to me. Is she doing something wrong? Or is this a common problem?

A bit of a long-shot this......I'm off on another visit to China in a couple of months and will be spending a few days in Hong Kong. I'd like to buy one or two of those fancy 'double DIN' DVD/CD/radio units with the motorised screen. Anyone know of a good in-car audio shop in HK (Central, Kowloon, Mong Kok areas)? I don't want to get ripped off by being sold faulty kit etc. Read more

I've bought several in Mong Kok and they are significantly cheaper than the UK. Some of the shops already have them priced up so you'll know where to start your haggling. Expect them to demo the stereo for you so you know it's working and know your prices before you shop! FM radio is no problem as HK was once British but don't expect to see any DAB.

Hong Kong is so small that car ownership is an expensive business. Consequently most cars are cosmetically heavily modified and after market audio is a must. Even 7 ton flat bed trucks wore body kits last I visited!

The shops in HK are generally grouped together by what they sell. A concierge or english speaking cab driver should be able to help.

I'm sure somebody can help on this. My 2001, 1.6 Scenic has developed an alarming squeal coming from the auxilary belt area. After some trial and error searching I've narrowed it down to the idler pulley nearest the alternator (not the tensioner). It looks as if the bearing in it is on the way out. I'm fairly confident I can replace the belt and getting to the pulley seems easy enough once the front wheel is off and the liner removed, however does anybody know if the pulley is likely to be a pig to remove ? I can't see that you could get a puller in the gap as there is only about two inches between it and the side of the engine bay.

It looks as if you just take the bolt out of the middle and the pulley slides off but I thought I'd better check with you good people on here first before I go and order the bits and end up kicking myself (again)

Any help gratefully received. Read more

If i remember correctly, these normally slip and fail because the threads holding the bolts that are supposed to keep them in correct place strip and allow the trensioner to keep moving.

Be careful when undoing the bolts as the threads are into the engine block ( I think) and are a real pain to sort if this happens.
