I was wondering, why do pushrod engines even exist? I remember when I was told I may have soft cams on my old Fiesta that the camshaft is at the bottom of the engine with pushrods going back to the top.

I can't understand why overhead cam hasn't always been used.

OK, OK.

I still would't have the yank car.

And I don't live in the UK, so I do't pay UK prices for cars...

vagman

my remote has started opening the windows when I unlock the car. Problem possibly with the 'comfort/conveneince' module - said to be located in the drivers (or passengers?) door. Any tips on removing the trim panels which seem to be very secure even after removing the two screws in the arm rests. Other info welcome

Thanks for info. Located a screw behind the small speaker next to the opening lever but none behind the main speaker grill. Succeded in releasing the hinge side of the panel but not the catch side without risk of damage.
HJ says this problem is s known VAG fault due to water getting into the module, but from what I could see, everything seemed quite dry.

I thought it might be a simple re-programming job but Audi say it will need a new module at about £400 !! Well they would would't they !
At this stage they haven't done any testing.
I doubt there is £300 worth in a module but, like computer printer makers, they screww you when you need parts.
All this technology is ok when its working !!
Thanks again - I may have another try before giving up.

Watch out for a smell when you get it back - if the car is not properly dried / new carpets fitted a "damp smell" or worse will be with you forever.

Yesterday I went to Halfords at Edge Lane in Liverpool as one of my lights was out. I asked for a brake light as when I put the brake pedal down one of the back lights did not come on. I asked what they would charge to fit it and he said £2.99. I was going to take him up on this as seemed easier but he told my boyfriend that it was pretty easy and all he had to do was pull the fitting out and out the bulb in. Said boyfriend used to have a motorbike so is inept with cars and asked more questions so nice man Neil ended up coming out to show him what to do and ended up fitting the bulb. Probably easier than trying to explain it! He said he didn't mind as he had nothing else to do and nobody would fit it for me at 4pm on a sunday anyway.

He also realised that it was not a brake light bulb I needed but a normal one so changed it for me too.

I was really pleased because he was v helpful and ended up providing a service I thought I might have to pay for.

I don't often come across good service so thought I would share. Plus it fills a few mins before I go to lunch!

I went to Halfords in the summer to buy a number plate in a hurry (!). Basically it was on a 125 I as selling, which had fallen off its stand and cracked the plate. I arrived late afternoon and before me in the queue were two Latvian guys (I got talking to them), they were after some obscure parts for an Audi, the guy who served us did so with immense patience, his Russian was non existent their English was limited, but they managed to find what they wanted (imagine one of us trying that in a Halfordski), he could have fobbed them off quite easily at many points in the conversation - but no he perceived and all was well.

He then served me, he had two attempts at the plate and gave up handing the misshapen fonted plate to me as a freebie. Cracking service, haven't been back though.........

polo auto

I recently took my Polo (1999 1.4 automatic) to a local VW specialist as the airbag warning light had come on permanently. After hooking it up to the diagnostic computer they've told me that the split ring that goes around the steering column has sheared (do they mean slip ring?) and I will need a new one. They've quoted me £90 for this part (plus labour costs of course) - just wondered if this sounds reasonable? Read more

Thanks for this information. I think I'll get some other quotes before I go ahead with the work.

Hi Peter - Yes I think it may be blocked and just wanted to check as the engine undertray may stop any drips from coming out onto the road!

Please can anyone help?
Work colleague of mine has a 52 plate 206 CC (2 ltr) which is producing a very high frequency drone (ie near to limit of hearing) in the cabin. It has alarm movement sensors within the cabin, but I don't know if they are ultrasonic or infra-red.
The noise is quite loud and goes after a while when the key is removed from the ignition. Turning radio on or off has no effect.
Are there any 206 owners out there who have experienced similar problems?
Is it just a simple case of replacing movement sensors?

Thanks

UPDATE - Strange high pitched noise in Cabin.
Dealer replaced the servo and the noise has gone, despite seeing many 206's, the dealer has only seen this problem once before.
The noise started to change from a high pitched tone to more of a tone accompanied by slight hissing noise.

My daughter is a named driver on my car insurance policy but only drives during university holidays and even then only once or twice a week. Does anyone know of an insurance company that allows students to insure a car for a few weeks at a time? Thanks. Read more
