I feel sure the 6000 will fit in OK
Others will probable advise if any cable ( off the shelf) cable adaptors are required.

To extract the unit you need the following
Ebay item 110075425107 to see a photo of them.
Any motor factor / Halfords /Motor World will keep them. As you can see £2 or so.

( the link to ebay already posted is for later versions of extractor tools
- I think it was a mis read as 2006 vehicle rather than 2006 radio model)

A feature in 'Which' magazine News:Cars article dated 4th January 2007 indicates that latest safety tests have revealed that poor seat-belt buckle design in several cars could cause them to be accidentally released by flailing arms etc in an accident situation whereby occupants are vulnerable to injury or even risk being thrown from the car in a crash.

It further states that cars made by Chrysler, Honda, Mitsubishi, Subaru and Volvo all had models affected by this type of buckle design.

The worrying factor is that when 'Which' called upon these manufacturers to change the buckle desgn on affected models, only Volvo agreed to look into the problem.

Also all the EuroNcap tests are free to view to anybody online unlike the Which tests.

Just curious, because no one I have asked seems to know, but can anyone say exactly what the make and model are of the Doctor's car shown at these two addresses?

The car would be an early 1940's, or late 1930's model and you can read the story about it on the above website.

Sorry if I have missed something, but on both your links it SAYS that it is a Peugeot 202. (As does my guidebook to Oradour)

Subject: UK Road Tax Petition
Sign and pass it on. It only takes a minute.
The government's proposal to introduce road pricing will mean you having to purchase a tracking device for your car and paying a monthly bill to use it.
The tracking device will cost about £200 and in a recent study by the BBC, the lowest monthly bill was £28 for a rural florist and £194 for a delivery driver.
A non working Mum who used the car to take the kids to school paid £86 in one month.
On top of this massive increase in tax, you will be tracked. Somebody will know where you are at all times.
They will also know how fast you have been going, so even if you accidentally creep over a speed limit you can expect a NIP with your monthly bill.
If you care about our freedoms and stopping the constant bashing of the car driver, please sign the petition on No 10's new website.

Please pass this on to anyone who owns a car/motorcycle. It affects them

Question Towing trolley
jezbed

Not really a technical matter, but I noticed an AA recovery vehicle using a towing mechanism which was basically a triangular trailer frame, with two wheels, an axle and then two holes for two car wheels to sit in-between the wheels of the towing 'trolley'. The towed vehicle is driven/roled/pulled onto the holes and the front wheels strapped down. This means the car can be towed, with its front wheel off the ground, and rear wheels rolling on the tarmac. There was no need for any one to sit in the towed vehicle and steer it, as with a tow bar. It seemed alot easier than having a trailer, and having to have the space to store one. I have to collect vehicles regularly, and my poor old dad is always roped in to giving me lifts. Any idea where i can get one?? Read more

Here is a snip of the regs from a camping webite which may be helpful.......................

There are strict regulations on braked trailers and, whilst a braked ?A? frame attached to a towed car constitutes a braked trailer, it is not legal for transportation as it cannot comply with EC71/320. With car dollies, the situation is somewhat different. Under regulation 83 of the Road Vehicles (construction & Use) Regulations 1986 (SI.1986/1078) Amending Regulations, a car dolly, with a car in place, will be considered as two trailers. This is legal for recovery but, under the Road Traffic Regulations Act 1984 (Schedule 6) the combination is limited to 40 mph on motorways and dual carriageways and 20 mph elsewhere.

Note that there is a very specific difference between recovery and transportation. Recovery is the removal of a broken down vehicle to a place of safety. It does not include removing a rotor arm (for instance) and travelling the length and breadth of the country. The police are well aware of the difference due to the regulations covering Tachographs and Operators Licences. Recovery vehicles are exempt.

It is well known that some countries in the EEC tend to overlook the regulations (the UK included) but some countries don?t. The situation regarding enforcement could change at any time and, as a result, the only safe way to transport another vehicle behind a motorhome is on a car transporter trailer. Play safe! Don?t take the risk!

Question Bio Diesel
jezbed

Has any one got any info on this stuff. i am going to buy a diesel and was going to run it on this stuff. The mechanic said oh it will ruin your engine, over time. I have only run a car for two tankfuls and it ran perfectly. There is a supplier local to me, and a taxi driver who was running a PD tdi audi a6 said he was running on bio-diesel. Any info would be gratefully received Read more

1) Check that it is permitted by the manufacturer in you car, many of the latest ones are not allowed to due to incompatibility with exhaust particulate filters.

2) If your car can use it, use one certified to EN14214.

3) Avoid the stuff sold by amateurs.

Hi Again, same Pug 406 estate "W" plate with occasional judder when braking. It feels like an overactive ABS, but its not skidding, or Icy. has anyone else experienced this, and what was the prognosis and cure, many thanks once again Read more

adverse camber

if it is the abs going off then look for corrosion or crack on the reluctor ring. No idea on a 406 if its on the disk or the outer cv joint. while you are at it check sensor clearance, but my money is on the ring

Hi I Have a 2000 "W" pug 406 Estate. Over Xmas the plastic tray which sits under the engine came away. My query is, is it necessary to get this replaced (£117 from dealer parts dept) or will the car survive with out it. Many Thanks Read more

sorry to butt in on the tray story. glad you've sorted it. have just bought a 406 GLX estate, 51 plate. HDi 110 engine. nice car. I can't see how to change the date time display - flashes on July 2006! no remote, no place for a remote, no buttons either side of the display. I can change the categories of the display with the button on the end of the outboard stalk but nothing else. I'm told the backroom boys might have an idea.
thanks, Tony R

I have been asked by a neighbour's sister to help choose her next car. She likes small cars i.e. Clio/Fiesa/Corsa size but likes a big engine for relaxed motorway driving. She only does 6K a year but most of that is motorway with one trip to France a year.

She currently has an old Clio which is a 1.4 IIRC. Although she has been pleased with it, it's on its last legs now and is a bit noisy for long motorway trips.

She has a budget of £13000, plus the old Clio - probably worth a few hundred. She is not interested in a diesel. Nothing that looks too sporty either.

I have seen there's a new Clio 2.0 petrol out now with a six speed 'box which would be quite a good car for long trips.

But what else might fit the bill?

What has happened is Renault brought out the 2.0 Dynamic S in october 2006 and have only just introduced the 2.0 Intialial and Privilage models range this year (I think). The 2.0 Dynamic S can olny be had in 3 a door version, but I know the Privilage and intiatial models were only available in 5 door versons before the 2.0 models came out. Therefore I stongly suspect that you can get a 2.0 in a 5 door version in either privilage or Intialtial trims.

Good thread I have been doing a lot of miles recently and I am just waiting for my first real perment job before I replace my P reg 1.2 Clio with something beter. I would also like refined cruiser but in a small package. - the new clio looks just the ticket. On this front WhatCar says the new corsa is very refined - but I hate car journalists. Half of them critisize qualities the other half praise and then they often say contracdictory things about the same car in the same report! GRRR.

Sorry I can't spell, perticualarly intialial. (if you know the clio's trim levels you will be able to understand what I mean)

My cigarette lighter doesn't work so can't use phone charger, satnav or tyre compressor. Having said that, when I plug the tyre inflator in, I can get the display to work in order to set the pressure but this disappears as soon as I switch the compressor on. Similiairly, when i insert the tomtom car chrager in, the green light comes on but disappears as soon as I connect it to the tomtom. Has anyone got any ideas? Its seems there is a current ,but not sufficient enough to power anything useful. Is this a Pug thing? Read more

i hope its the socket, i dont fancy tearing the dash apart to find the loose connection. Incidently, its a 97 car, but the lighter has never been used, maybe cos its never worked. bit of a pain considering i got a 12 hour drive to south of france and tomtom lasts 4hrs.
