is sure they would just change it as part of the service id let them do it saves you the hassle of getting fuel all over your hands as it stinks!! good luck,

What do you get for a car valeting and how much does it cost?

I have a 4yr old Suzuki Wagon R which is super but needs sprucing up after lending it to grandchildren.

We have several 'hand' car wash operations locally which charge between £7 - £9 for exterior wash, wax and polish and £20 for interior valet as well. Have not had the interior done but the wash is excellent and leaves car looking as if just left show room.

Starter motor doesn't seem to sound any different when trying to start. Do you think a crack in the distributor cap could be causing the problem.I tried changing it once with a second hand one and it seemed to cure it for a while, but when I bought a new one it made no difference?

Just wondering, and apols if I have missed coverage of this. Anyway, I'm curious to know whether the current 1.9 105 TDi is akin to what I call the old 110 TDi from a few years ago?

I'm looking to go back to one of these - either a new Leon or Octavia - and something in my head tells me that in many ways, the 105 is preferable to the 2.0 140. The thing is, I remember being pretty impressed by the performance and economy of a previous (Toledo) 1.9 110.

So, is the performance between the "old and new" pretty similar despite the apparant 5 fewer horses, or should I just go for a 140 anyway?

I want the best of both worlds of course - economy and performance!

Thank you. Read more

I did try the manual and 4th is flexible, but to get to 4th you need to go through 1,2,3 (if you don't block change). In stop start traffic you are constantly changing to get yourself to flexible fourth gear. As most of my journeys involve urban traffic with traffic lights and traffic queues a plenty sitting there and letting the box change is much more relaxing.

How long is "a period of time"? For elderly cars, immobiliser and clock can drain a battery over a couple of weeks, but not over a couple of days.

Mrs S's 98 Hyundai Accent has always bong'd when she tries to exit the car with the lights on; yesterday we were puzzled to find it doing this when the lights were definitely off. Today I noticed that I had inadvertently left the rear foglight switched on after demonstrating it yesterday for the MOT tester; therefore even though ignition and foglight were off there was an audible warning as well as the dash light that we were being prattish by driving round with this light on.

We don't have front foglights so I don't know if this feature would also apply to them, nor if this is a standard feature on all cars, but it seems a remarkably good idea. Obviously if someone likes the idea of their foglights being on, a bonging isn't going to stop them, but it would be helpful to the merely absent-minded.

You're right, very useful. Just to stir the pot a bit I've done a bit of investigating myself and found that on my old Accord the foglight only illuminates with dipped headlights but on the later Prelude it stays on with main beam as well. ??

The car is my son's freshly acquired 2000W Nissan Primera S. It's in gleaming red and at £2495 (50,000mls) looks like a good buy. Just one tiny niggle:

I wonder if anyone else has experienced condensation inside the rear-light cover - in particular the bootlid-mounted reversing light?

If so, I'd be very interested to know how you got rid of it, how you gained access and if you had any success in maintaining it condensation free. Many thanks Waino Read more

Alcapone

This is a common problem on Nissan Almeras, water gets into the rearlight cluster and leaks into boot as well as condensing on the lenses.

Nissan do the sealant to do both clusters for around £30 on ebay. I have however found an alternative on Amazon here: www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00G58HJ1O/ref=oh_aui_...1...

Hi,

Anyone tell me how often cam belt should be done on 97 Astra 1.7 Diesel please?

Also, should the tensioners be done at the same time? If so is this part of the job or should I specify separately?

Dynamic Dave

No idea of the interval, other than it has previosuly been mentioned on here that it is different to the petrol engine interval.

As regards to tensioner, if you specify a cambelt kit to whoever changes it, then that will include all the relevant parts needed. If the garage you're using are any good, they should recommend a cambelt kit as opposed to just the belt anyway.
