The diagnostic light on my 306 hdi (2001) came on so i took it in for a diagnistic reading. This showed up 3 faults which read:
brake pedal switch (no problem there-probably a light bulb out knowing puegeot electrics)
low oil pressure
and 2 out of 4 injectors not spraying correctly.
I suspected the injectors to be a problem a while ago becasue there is a ticking noise under load from the engine at 3200rpm. The milage of the engine is 170,000 so im wondering what should i do to sort out the problem?
Is it worth getting injectors reconditioned and a new oil pump or look at recon engines?
anyone else had trouble with injectors o hdi's?

A 4WD parked about 50 yards up the road, in a residential street, has had its car alarm (20 one-second horn blasts every minute) going off since ten this morning. It's annoying from my house,-it must be unbearable in nearby properties. I should think that several people have already informed the police, but I seem to recall that they aren't allowed to touch the car to switch it off. Have any Backroomers come across this problem, if so, what was the outcome?
There it goes again...!

Having heard no alarm for a couple of hours, I assumed the car had been moved. Went out at about 8 last night to find the offending car still there, indicators flashing weakly, obviously not enough juice in the battery to sound the horn, and probably not enough to start the car.
Thanks for all the input.

a friend of mine took his GREEN 1.6 RENAULT MEGANE COUPE W REG WITH 45K to his mechanic as it was making a noise and has been told the camshaft has gone and it is going to cost around £800 to fix. He cant eally afford to pay for the work and is deciding what to do. i suggested putting it into an auction. i know its dishonest but maybe he might get a half decent price for it.
Could you answer some questions for me.
what is the commission price/percentage at auction?
what price do you roughly think he can get?
will he have to declare its faults or are cars sold as seen bassis. Read more
I'd be surprised if he got more than £1500 for it and maybe he'd be lucky to get that. It'll end up in the bottom of the barrel type auction half full of rubbish which is there for exactly the same reason your friend is selling his car so nobody sensible pays proper money.

From a news release today:
"Prices... .start at £29,465 for the Touareg 2.5 TDI manual and....the 5.0 V10 TDI comes in at £57,535 in Altitude trim."
What can you add to a basic car to justify an extra 95% price tag?
p.s. not VW bashing - there are plenty of other examples - see Mini, for example

The Clio 106 has a dual vane turbo and an intercooler. It also has a six speed gearbox.
Random topic I know, but has anyone noticed how cars actually seem to settle in one position if left standing? I don't just mean the suspension either as that is obvious - I took mine out after a week parked uphill on the drive (It goes up then down onto the road) and the creaks from the interior as the chassis flexed slightly were quite noticeable!
Also, everything definitely felt better after a run, especially the steering and gearbox. Read more
Could be! I won't pretend to know anything about car chassis dynamics. :o)
Just did the first car wash of 2007 with a jet wash and soapy water, but the paintwork looks dull. I only wash my car twice a year (when I can't see out of the windows any more), so how I make it shiny again? Preferably in the quickest, laziest way possible. Read more
I wash my pickup and van at least once a fortnight. For me its about image and reesale value.
I usualy vacume out the interior, wipe the dash etc with a damp microfibre and wash the mats at the same time. I will then do an under the bonet check.
The above takes no more than 3 hours for both vehicles. I never bother waxing although I do use a good quality wash and wax solution.
I dont know much in detail about the construction of the front of cars, so I'm a bit stuck.
Whenever I jetwash my Toledo, I usually deliberately try and make it leak to see if I can spot where it is coming from.
But, it never lets a drop in. Only the rain seems to do it. I have poured full buckets of water down the front vents, the screen, jetwashed right up against the edge of the windscreen, etc, but the car stays dry.
It seems to come in through the passenger footwell vents but I could be wrong. I have siliconed the chassis and replaced the pollen filter housing but I am now totally and utterly stumped.
It seems to be more leak prone when facing up hill.
SEAT and VW specialists would want £400 just to take the dash out.
It doesn't have a sunroof. At one point I thought it was just the A/C drain pipe that was clogged but now I don't know.

Check all over the windscreen, you may have lots of small chips anyway, and in my experience they will replace it for the excess of around £50. At leat that will narrow it down and if you do have lots of sprinled sugar-like chips it will be worth the £50 to get new clear glass.
During my travels over xmas I noticed that from 1st Jan the M6 Toll have increased their prices so that a full run along the main carriageway is now £4. This is now starting to get a bit expensive I think. I was coming down from Lancs to Oxfordshire and will use £40's of petrol for the trip, if I add the toll road into that then I spend £48 on the journey. So it's added 20% onto my bill (we'll ignore depreciation for this calculation, the car will still depreciate whether or not I use the toll road)
Yesterday had to do the same journey so decided not to bother and although the M6 thro' Brum was busy and I had to queue for a bit, I decided it was worth saving the £4 to do this. If it were still £2.50 as when it first opened then I wouldn't have thought twice about using the toll road.
Any thoughts from anyone else ?
The Toll road did seem particularly empty as we all turned off and stayed on the M6...... Read more

I've frequently seen time to Jxx displayed, but can't recall seeing the distance too. I've often thought that the time on its own isn't much use, unless you happen to know how far it is to Jxx
The airbag light will not go out on my A4 2000 X reg. Dealer can't reset - says airbay ecu has failed. I have found a second hand ecu - can anyone tell me where the airbag ecu is located on the car? Read more
My 2000 year Passat had air-bag problems. Error code simply said there were discrepancies in the voltage of the wiring loom....
One dealer tried to reset.... then O-Ring replacement, then I have in with them and went to another dealer. They replaced some of the wiring loom... and it kept coming back. In the end they bypassed part of the wiring loom because "this had fixed another car" and problem never came back in the last 8 months I had the car. Previously it came back before I got out of their car park!
I'l get wiring checked or live without the airbag(s) ever working?

as i know i have a problem with 2 injectors im wondering how i can diagnose which 2 they are?
I went to my local diesel specialists who dont seam keen to take on the job as 'the injectors are probably part of the engine now after 170,000' and suggest it would be a pain to get them out.
Has anybody who has swapped injectors got any advice?
Ive seen plenty on ebay and local breakers yards but im unsure of what numbers need to correspond so the ecu doesnt have a problem
whats the best way to go about this.....get mine reconditioned or buy some from somewhere?
cheers
