Bit of advice with a Saab dealer - Jonwm {P}
Hi all,

Looking for a bit if advice on a payment issue with a Saab Dealer, I'll tell you the story so you will know where i'm coming from.

I have got a 9-3 Linear Saab and if you have one will know just how terrible the stereo is, so i went about upgrading it with the dealer, they quoted £150 on the phone @ saab info, but they neglected to tell me this was if the car was new, mine is not, its a Company Car (55 reg) so dealer quoted £477 for the ES1 - 7 upgrade, i wrote to saab and got £100 voucher for my troubles.

I spoke to my work and asked if i did it through Hitachi Capital (Leasing company) could they take it out my wages over a few months (didn't want £377 out in december! or anytime actually!!) they agreed so i booked it in and gave the garage the voucher, now they should have billed £377 to Hitachi as agreed with me, then they would bill my company.

This is where i think they have tried to be clever, they have just sent the paperwork off and given me nothing apart from the key at the end of the day thinking that it was just another bill lost at the lease company, however if anyone has a hitachi car on here, you can access all details online, and they have billed £469, so that would make it £569 without my discount, quite alot for 3 speakers and an amp that is put into a already pre wired car i think, and to be honest still sounds like a 1981 ford fiesta.... no infact worse now!

I have approached the garage and they can not give me an answer every time i ring they are looking into it!

I'm not saying they are delibratly taking advantage of lease drivers but wanted a bit of advice on where to go with it.

Thanks

Jon

Just a thought, but was the quoted price including VAT?

£477 + VAT at 17.5% = £560.48. Take off the £100 voucher and you have £460.48 - add on some connectors or another excuse and you can get to the number billed.

Yeah i thought that but when i had the quote he quoted as fitted all in, can only think that they have missed the VAT off and as the guy realised thsi just billed it, hence they are not ringing back, tried again this morning.

I have spoken to Hitachi and they say they will chase for me now, but my work have already paid the bill, seeing as i work for a huge company i'm hoping they wil forget they are supposed to bil me!

This reminds me of the time I ran a 900 turbo 16v 2 door.I had bought this car from a Saab main dealer at 12 months old and supposedly an ex Saab GB car.
The car came with a 12 months Saab warranty ,which was run by a third party company.

On its first service in my possesion, I was informed that the car needed a new air mass meter but not to worry as this would be done under warranty.Over the next year, the car needed a repacement gearbox due to a very noisy pinion bearing.Shortly after the gearbox replacement, the clutch started to slip badly so yet another warranty job.

I always thought that suspicious but let it go.Later on the gearbox developed a lot of play in the driveline to the extent that the transition from power off to power on
resulted in clunk in the driveline somewhere.By now the car was out of warranty and the dealer now said that this was just acceptable wear and tear and no way would he replace the gearbox again.

It turned out through a heated debate, that the original gearbox had not been replaced with a new one but a reconditioned one.

After all this I decided to sell the car and wrote to the warranty company asking for list of all repairs that had been carried out by the dealer under warranty.
It was quite a list, but the thing that made me vow never to use that dealer again was the fact they lied about the replacing of the air mass meter to the warranty company.

They did fit the air mass meter and I know they did because I saw it,but they charged for a new ECU which on investigation cost three times the amount of the air mass meter.

There was a lot more woe that happened to this car because of that dealer but too much to write here.

Needless to say,the dealer princip;e and I had quite a ding dong argument and I was banned from his dealership. He is a rich man now !
