Hello
My Peugeot 406 TD has developed a fault in which the 5 position wiper knob only works in the highest (fast sweep) position. Im assuming its just a fuse or two blown.
How can i check/rectify this??
Its winter, and raining! lol. i need a quick fix!!!
Cheers Read more
Steering sometimes heavy and warning light came on temporarily.
At the time, the lights were on but they did dim occaisionally.
Know the power steering is electro hydraulic and that the steering column sensor can give trouble bu this appears to be related to availble charge?

It could be an alternator problem - the steering could trip out if the alternator voltage is too high. This was the apparent cause on my father's Fabia and I noticed the headlights flicker from time to time
I bought a second hand Honda from a dealership in January, which included a 12 month warranty. From day one the brakes have made a scraping noise when releasing to set off, even when only parked up for a brief while. The car has also always drifted to the left. The salesman explained at the time that the brakes noise was because the car had been parked up for a month, but would resolve itself once driven for a while. I thought that, as long as we claimed within the 12 months, the dealer would address these issues under the warranty.
I am now faced with the situation where the dealership are flatly refusing to resolve these fairly minor niggles as they claim that they are "adjustments", not "mechanical failures", and that they should have been brought to their attention earlier. As I live and work some distance from the dealership, it is not naturally convenient to get to them.
Where do I stand here ? If it is not covered by the warranty (which it doesn't appear to be, having had the pleasure of having to read through the small print) then should the dealership rectify the niggles anyway ? I appreciate that 11 months is a long time to notify them of the problems but a) I acted in good faith thinking it would be covered under the 12 month warranty and b) it does appear that they are suggesting they would have looked at the car earlier, even if it was an "adjustment". (As a layman, how is one expected to know what constitutes an "adjustment" as opposed to a "mechanical failure" ?) I feel as if my integrity is being questioned here. Read more
sounds like wear and tear to me.
let an independant garage give it a once over and give you an opinion
Reading a lot of the posts, everybody seems to drives a petrol or diesel car...thats all there is i hear you say apart from the Toyota Prius...
I do laugh quietly to myself when i fill my car up with LPG...full tank 47 litres...£20....300 miles on a run 0.429p per litre......do you do high milage ?...it's a longer service interval, less wear on the engine....quieter than a normal petrol car, less pollutig then a petrol or diesel and lower car tax....whats the disadvantage ???....there is none and before you say no stations have it there's over 1600 in the UK and loads around....just look out for them on your way home, you'll be surprised !!! What I don't understand is why anybody thinks we need to
worry about CO2 emmissions, there is so much research contradicting the
popular myth that CO2 is causing global warming, it just isn't
reported because it wouldn't make a good story...

Since they've been the subject of quite a bit of adverse comment here in the past I thought I'd relate our most recent experience of a leading fast fit outfit. The wife's car needed it's MOT but having been involved in a accident whilst parked some weeks earler and sustained some rear end damage, we were loath to take it to our usual garage about 45 mins, drive away and decided to take a chance on the nearest fast fit MOT centre. I arrived in reception, booked the car in and asked if I could speak to the guy who'd be doing the inspection. I took him over to the car to run through a couple of things with him and almost as an afterthought mentioned the fact that due to the rear damage the hatch wouldn't open. I'd been previously informed by another garage that this wouldn't be an issue as long as the spare tyre and rear suspension mounts could be inpected from inside the car (which they could) so was more than a little upset to hear this. At this point I was fearing the worst but, to cut a longish story short, the mechanic said he'd see what he could do and would proceed with the rest of the inspection. He soon managed to spring the hatch open but it wouldn't shut properly so he and a colleague set about knocking knocking out the dented bodywork and adjusting the locking mechanism until they finally managed to get the hatch to work properly. They then carried on with the rest of the inspection and after about 40 minutes reappeared in reception. Much to my amazement, not only had the car sailed through the MOT but they didn't even make a charge for the work they'd done to fix the rear hatch. Delighted with the outcome I added a 'drink' to the £39.95 bill and I left the premises with my faith restored!
It makes a nice change to be able to report some good news about these places so WELL DONE GUYS!! Read more
Don't forget though that when checking things such as the boot floor for corrosion or the suspension tops in the rear, there is no dismantling to be done, if the tester can't see it then he can't fail it. With most modern cars having fully trimmed boot spaces, there is nothing the tester can do from inside the car.
With regard to the spare wheel, he can advise what he likes but again he can't fail it even if it is completely bald with cuts and bulges in the sidewall. Like it has already been mentioned as long as it is secure in its storage area, then thats as far as it matters for the MOT.
Quoting another place "Top dollar in the new range is the £28,075 being asked for the 2.2 i-CTDi EX with automatic transmission, Advanced Safety Pack, 19" alloy wheels and metallic paint." Can I assume they've got it wrong, and that Honda haven't developed a diesel automatic? Read more
Yes, it's wrong.
Am I correct in saying that the vertical adjusters appear to require a key or adaptor? If so, who supplies please? Read more
'Morning, no I haven't yet Dave - I thought posting this just as likely to discover the answer.
I know we've had threads about the best music to drive to in the past, but have we had one about songs that are about driving or cars? Reason I ask is that I've just downloaded Chuck Berry's Anthology (sad I know, but I've been a fan of his since the late '50s and have lots on vinyl, but wanted some on CD for listening in the car) and it reminded me that there are some great songs which are just about cars or driving - eg "No money down" and "You Can't catch me" (lyrics at lyricsplayground.com/alpha/songs/n/nomoneydown.sht...l and
lyricsplayground.com/alpha/songs/y/youcantcatchme....l
Even better - a video of it!!

not to mention "Route 66" (not written by him)
So do you have a favourite? -
And I'm not talking about songs that just mention driving (eg American Pie and its "drove my Chevy to the levee but the levee was dry")

Pink Floyd- the final cut- Two suns in the sunset- mean and moody through out, with the lines

you stretch those frozen moments with your fear

I have just tried the Auto Trader search with no make supplied and then did a second search with LHD and got lots of hits starting at £994.
a Porche for £1099 with lots of pics and a big write up.
It also identifies some LHD Secialist dealers.
Was driving home today with my side lights on and had driven some miles with them on. Switched the lights to Dipped mode and the lights seem 2 go very bright for a quick second as though Full Beam was on and then fade to what looked to be normal.
When I had completed my journey I noticed that the drivers Dipped Headlight bulb had gone so duly replaced the bulb as per the handbook and tested it. No light. Checked the fuse which is Fuse 6 a 10A and looked to be ok but replaced it anyway just incase. Still no light. Swapped the bulb from the Passenger side round and drivers side round and my new bulb illuminated in the passenger side but the existing passenger one does not appear to light up on the drivers side. Incidently the side light and Full Beam work on both sides and all the lights around the car work ok just this one bulb which I need these dark nights.
Has anybody got an idea what the problem may be, is it going to be a visit to my local vauxhall garage or my auto electrician.
I would assume it is a bad earth or a dodgy wire but would be glad of any advise.

Hi,
This is most likely the switch - most cars today use ones manufactured by Valeo which are at best are not top quality. Before going to the expense of changing the switch it may be worth disconnecting and reconnecting the multiplug as these do suffer from bad contact.
