these looms connect between your current phase 1 lights and the lexus lights, also be aware you will need to change some of the bulbs to double filament

I picked up my nearly new Renault Megane 1.5 dCi from a Renault dealer on Friday. As promised he'd filled the tank. I drove it 4 miles before it started juddering badly, cut out and wouldn't re-start. The dealership recovered the car and it turned out they had filled it with petrol not diesel. They've drained the tank & fuel system etc and claim it will be okay: I'm not convinced.
Any advice - I assume that it will have been running hot on a lower viscosity fuel. Piston rings and valve seats could be damaged. I've also heard petrol can degrade the seals used in diesel cars and diesel is often used to lubricate components due to its greater viscosity.

Well done on standing your ground, though by the sound of things they were that close to giving in anyway. I'm sad to hear they didn't make the first move by offering you the full refund, as it does seem to me that they tried it on at first.

I do feel sorry for the guy who takes it on not knowing - but I guess anyone buying a S/H diesel takes that risk.

Quick search produced this among others - source is Australia so probably reasonably robust.

Having read this would you want to live, and bring up a family, near a major road?

Diesels get the attention because the man in the street can see the smoke, the things that cause the most harm are generally the things you cannot see (e.g. asbestos is dangerous because of the fibres you cannot see - and I have lost a few friends to it).

My van was rear-ended yesterday which caused a fair amount of damage ( looking at atleast £3000 worth )

Anyhow, I always thought that in the event of a claim, you had to pay your excess and then got it back at the end of the issue - is this not the case?

The guy who hit my van rang his insurer immediately and admitted liability - this was before I spoke to my insurer - and as soon as I had given all the details to my insurer, he put me on hold - was this to ring the other insurer? I ask because when he came back on the phone, he was talking about how and when I would be getting it fixed and that this would be a quick claim. Is this normal?
I always assumed it was a more drawn out process than that - he didnt mention anythinga bout filling out forms about the nature of the accident and didnt take much detail on the incident, which suprised me a little.

There was never any mention about the excess at all - could this be because the other driver had already admitted liability?

This is the first time ive had to deal with a claim so my apologies if Im sounding a little green!

Just be a little alert when going through your own insurer. If it is a van and you use it ffor work I assume it is a commercial policy? That being so there can be a few differences between that and a private car policy so the best approach to a claim is not always the same. Especially around the "extension" bits - personal effects, replacement vehicles etc.

I haven't read this thread fully and can't really reply longer since this is on my Blackberry and I'm in the Andes. However, if its still ongoing in a few days and I can offer any advice I should be back on a real computer by then.

Eeeeh when I were a lad - I used to hear people constantly going on about Sunday drivers

I'm not sure if the phenomena still exists anymore or if it does maybe it's in a different guise
Where I live - London suburb - I notice a major increase in aggressive driving at the weekend - esp Sunday afternoons (visiting parents???)

I get a lot more tailgating, even when I'm just driving to a paper shop at 9 ish on a Saturday morning and just a general increase in impatience and snappy attitudes

I've been putting it down to concentrated consumerism (not in the Christmas sense) in that people are deperate to squash all their boring tasks into the shortest possible time (fair enough I guess) and a sense among people that their weekends must be fully utilised for enjoyment/shopping or they feel shortchanged /cheated in some way, and heaven help anyone who gets in the way.

Any thoughts

But when im on the roads going up to my grandfather's which is the otherside of town from me, a lot of people do tailgate you whilst cruising at 30 mph in a 30 limit.

The Clio 1.6 8v K7M engine does not have hydraulic tappets though valve clearances are not scheduled for checking by Renault or Haynes, Haynes say check if noisy or if running symptoms suggest to do so. Car is fine though should the clearances be checked after eight years and 43,000 miles?

I think this is the same engine as in the old 8v Megane. If so, mine went to 100K without adjustment and problems. A very nice economical and torquey engine.

Clio 1.6 8v K7M engine.

Changed the coolant on the wife's Clio, all sorted, however I removed what I thought was the cyl block drain plug to find it did not have coolant behind it, this was a short bolt about 20mm long with an 11mm head situated on the front of the block near the gearbox end below the oil pressure switch, when removed the flat end of the bolt had engine oil on it though no oil leaked from the hole, it had Loctite on it so I re-Locite'd it and replaced it, wouldn't mind knowing what it is there for, Haynes does not help, any ideas? Perhaps it allows an oil temp gauge to be fitted in other applications of this engine.

Thanks.

Thanks, I think you are right, Haynes mentions this regarding the 16v only though I think it is basically the same block.

Noticed that SWMBO's Focus has condensation on the screen every morning now. I'd like to check the drain(s). Where do I find it/them? Read more

elekie&a/c doctor

The condensate drain is low down on engine bulkhead below the 2 heater pipes. Can't see this being the cause of condensation on the screen.More likely to be water entering the cabin thro pollen filter caused by poor sealing of plastic plenum panel in front of pass wiper.
