I?ve just taken my dads Yaris 1.0 (54 plate) to have its 2 year service. Its only done 10k miles.

The service book states that the oil/filter need changing, and that the brake fluid should be changed every 2 years (i.e. now).

Speaking to the service manager at the approved Toyota service centre, he said that as the mileage is so low, he will check the brake fluid and not change it if its ok.

The price quoted for the service was £143, but he said this morning that the brake fluid change, if required, would be extra (even though the service schedule says to change it)

Should I insist that the brake fluid is changed? Will not changing the brake fluid effect the Toyota warranty? And if it needs doing should I pay the extra over the quoted price?

Not having the brake fluid changed will not invalidate your warranty, if you get the service booked stamped then they have approved all the work and stamped it. £143 seems a lot for an oil/filter change do they do the spark plugs and air filter for that as well ? The brake fluid work would be extra, it's only a recomendation to change it.
Mind you they do change £80 an hour or so...thats why i do it myself.
You can ask then to do if you like but you will have to pay for it as it's not part of the service, nowadays i don't even think they adjust the handbrake at services !

Mine needs doing in about 3k times (60k), they do a belt only or they do a kit which includes tensioner, should i just do the belt or get the kit and replace the tensioner etc ?

Thanks to some idiot overtaking on the chevron markings on a single carriageway I now have a cracked sceen which needs replacing.
I have searched the forum on the subject and am a bit concerned about having a mismatched tint, i definitely do not want a screen with a "pink tint" fitted . The car is a 2003 Honda Civic.
Any tips as to what I should do next to ensure satisfaction. Will they use the orriginal fittings, clips etc. or do I need to make sure they supply new ones .
I am realy not lookng foreward to having it done as I feel it will not be fitted to the same standard as a factory fitted screen.

Does anyone have experience of using a car with and without a limited slip differential? Question is asked with a view to using an LSD-equipped car (front-drive 75-25 split) in moderate snow conditions as an alternative to a four-wheel-drive. The package in question also gives a 30mm lift to about 190mm ground clearance and Michelin Synchrone tyres. Read more

Sorry but its not wrong !

What was 4wd designed for if its not off road (including snow and ice ) conditions.

Yes it can still get stuck but far more likely to keep going than a lsd.

LSD is ideal for sporting conditions to keep drive etc if a wheel goes light in a corner or slips onto loose surface etc during accelerating conditions.

Very simplified but true !

In the back of my mind I have an idea that recent legislation makes a dealer responsible for faults which occur within 6 months of sale. Am I wrong?

This raises some interesting points if they allowed it to be driven away!

Does the Xantia have a full hydraulic system like the BX or is a partial system? If the former I also wonder about the testers knowledge of the hydraulic suspension on an Xantia and some of the reasons for failure.

A friend of mine has bought a 2000 Citroen Saxoi 1.1cc.

He has found in the mornings when he turns the key there is only a buzzing noise. The engine does not turn at all. Then after 3 or 4 attempts of turning the ignition it starts staright away

Then for the rest of the day it starts away as normal

Any advise what could be causing this?

Cheers

I am deciding between a Golf R32, Megane 225 and Imprezza. However my only concern is someone stealing it. It's not a problem at home since it will be garaged and any thief would have to get by a viscious sounding dog (who's actually very soft, she would lick you to death) and an insane SWMBO.

I was thinking about some other visible deterrent to try and keep the low life off my car. It will often be parked up at an airport and occasionally in the city centre.

Any ideas or do I have to accept that a dreary 1.4 litre grot box is more sensible? Read more

They would just low
load it and drive away.

I wouldn't have thought there would generally be space to do this in a car park, so try and park where access by a low loader is limited.

img.thisismoney.co.uk/calculators/calcPetrol.html (are the tax rates current?)

and don't forget, the annual fuel bill is shown as net, so grossing up is required.

I cover about 40 000 miles per annum in/on various vehicles, averaging about 25 mpg. At a marginal tax/NI rate of 41%, I estimate that I contribute about £7.5k to the treasury in fuel tax, VAT and income tax/NI on gross earnings.

And the parasites want more!! The same parasites who now want a substantial pay rise.

>>If you worry about people on low incomes you should seek to boost their income like providing a minumum income garentee.

This has been the arguement that businesses has used for years to close factories and relocate manufacturing to cheaper places in the world. Would you want to run a business in this country with all the rules and regulations that must be followed and an expensive workforce, or have someone else worry about making goods for you and then you pay for shipping and final distribution costs. The added bonus is you can always exert further pressure to reduce prices by threatening to move production elsewhere. This is the real world that we live in.

The less we manufacture in the UK will ultimately mean our economy will finally start to shrink. The wealth of Great Britian started with the industrial revolution, it was knocked back by WWI, the depression, and WWII. In the 1960's I can remember when the news always gave the monthly figures for imports and exports, to show as a nation we were paying our way. I do not believe in protecting industry at any cost, but we have to look at the growth in the service industry and civil service to realise that at some point it will ultimately affect our economic wealth.

The sliding windows were the quickest possible way of getting to chat to someone. Very easy to lean across and slide the passenger window. Also obligatory for resting your elbow on the ledge at all times. Look at the rub marks from generations of farmers' elbows.
You don't need a rear wash-wiper with an open back or canvas tilt.
