If you read any of the 'quality' motoring magazines in the Uk, you will see that they always finish the road test with a variation of 'horrendous depreciation / crippling 2nd hand prices / expect poor residuals', which I'm sure has put many people off.

Well, a year after the 300C CRD came to the UK, the depreciation rates are now available and they really are truly shocking.

(Chrysler Group is quoting Glass's Guide as saying that, with 9000 miles on the clock, a 06 plate car in the range might sell for £27,500, compared with the list price of £26,250.) Ed.

These must be very sobering news indeed for anyone who selected the 300C.

Anyway, did anyone else see last week's Dragons' Den, in which
Deborah Meaden arrived, for a meeting with one of her new
partners, in the back seat of a lurid silver 300C?

I did !!!!!!!! I think that the car had the Startech body kit on it - a bit of a Marmite situation.

Another thread mentioned K-seal Kalimix. I have not heard of this, in our collective experts opinion what is the best temporary sealer. A few said it should not be used on modern engines. How new are we talking about.? Swmbo's 95 405 td's rad is leaking a fair bit. We are off on hols (not in it) next tuesday and I won't have time to replace it before new year. A temporary fix would be very useful.

piston power

thanks for all the info, i use it for my 1/2 air gun the tyre inflator, and a manual tyre machine, and a blow gun done a small bit of spraying on the radiators in the house ( removed off the wall !!)
just looked at other similar compressors some seem to go a little higher than 120psi so might adjust and see how it goes but won't over do it !! thanks for all the replies..

Has anyone got (or know anyone who has) one of those ceramic in car heaters you see advertised in the sunday papers? They sit on the top of the dash and plug into your cig lighter and give instant heat out. Ive read a review on one site and the writer seems somewhat underwhelmed. Thanks in advance. Read more

Hi Guys. My son's Vauxhall Corsa's steering is stiff to turn in one direction. A friend mentioned it might be the electric power steering is failing? Is there any way to check this unit or take it apart, or any other suggestions to fix this. Many thanks Ian Read more

Hi all,

We've got a 1999 VW Bora 1.6(manual) with 53k on the clock. Coming from work tonight, as I was driving along the ABS light came on on the dash and the STOP warning flashed up. I pulled over, switched off and restarted and all was well so drove home 3 miles with the ABS light not reoccuring. Prior to pulling over and stopping I'd pulled out of a muddy track and quite possibly had skidded a bit when I stopped so used the ABS.

Can anyone advise as whether I have a problem or is it a glitch. Also, when the dash says STOP as the light comes on, is this set in stone and I have to or is it a warning that somethings wrong but you're ok till you get it fixed?

Thanks in advance........

PS Car is basically a Golf btw! Read more

Well worth getting it checked out, the ABS were a recal on *some* Bora/mk4 golf models, as they sometimes catch fire...

Do what extent does stopping and starting an engine is bad for it??
For example yesterday, trip to post office, 1 mile away stop engine. Post office to supermarket- 8 miles stop engine. Supermarket to home- 8 miles stop engine. Home- friends 5 miles stop engine. Friends to cinema- 3miles stop engine. Cinema- home- 5 miles stop engine.
Which means i've started the engine 6-7 times in a day. Does this kill the engine a lot?? Read more

Hello,

I need to buy a new cat converter for my 1.6i citroen xsara (registered 03/99) but as there are two types - one OBD one non OBD so i am a little unsure. On the website i would buy from it says for each type;

CITROEN XSARA 1.6i (not OBD, up to ChNo08147) 7/97-2/99

CITROEN XSARA 1.6i Manual (ch.no. 08148 on) 3/99-8/00

ive seen a number in the engine bay but its a long number? Just to add, i had some work on the electrics and i remember them saying ''we will check the on board diagnostics'' Hope this helps. Read more

An OBD fitted car will usually have two Hego sensors(lambda sensors)one before the cat,one after.A non-OBD just one before.

More specifically, a late (05-54 plate) pre-facelift 'chinese eyes' version.

I would be grateful if any board members could give an opinion on this car, as I'm thinking of getting one. I live in a country area , so competent AWD/chassis & practicality appeal, together with the sparkling performance. I see nothing but good in any review/survey etc. , especially regarding overall quality, sturdiness & longevity (..and I suppose that rather intangible quantity, people's 'affection' for the marque)

The few dealers I've spoken to, all seem geniunely (if you can guage this over the phone) interested & enthusiastic about the brand & more than willing to answer 'technical' questions (..more than the usual dealership car salesperson who seem like they could be selling washing machines , for all their concentration on the process rather than the product)

If I analyse a little too deeply, perhaps there's a whiff of teenage kicks in my choice, but I'm taken by the practicality & rather anodyne blingless appearance coupled with q-car performance.
