Is a GPS speed camera detector worth having? I've seen the Inforad GPS detector advertised for ~£90 but am not sure if it's worth having. Do you need radar detection to be useful? Anybody got any experience of Inforad? If so is it easy to use?
Thanks Read more

I picked up a nearly new Inforad for £20 off e-bay. Works fine. I certainly wouldn't pay full price for one.

2002 Mondeo Ghia X, on two occasions over a few weeks I have noticed the airbag warning light flash while driving, on both occasions it was intermittent, it could have been flashing a code such as two flashes, pause, two flashes, pause though I am not sure. The first time I had just left home and stopped and restarted, all was well, the second time I also stopped and restarted which caused the light to stay on permenently, upon restarting a second time then all was well. On both occasions I had a passenger so I have checked the functioning of the passenger airbag deactiavtion system by connecting the passenger seat belt without anyone sitting on the seat and waiting for the deactivation light to illuminate, then upon illumination I have put weight on the seat at which point the deactivation light goes out, this proves that the sensors are working as well as the switch in the buckle. I have checked the connections under both seats and all seems well.

Will a fault code be stored for each time the warning light has illuminiated when driving?

Any other thoughts?

Sounds like that's what it was all right. Thanks for the update; let's hope it stays off permanently....

A friend of mine is trading in her Renault Scenic in tomorrow hopefully but has no idea what the value as a PX should be.

Its a 1998 Renault Scenic 1.9 dTi RT with 67k on clock in doom blue.

I know its a very saleable car, but no idea of what its worth for PX.

I have just sold my lovely Renault Scenic Sport Alize 1999 V reg in platinum silver with the same mileage as yours. Ok mine is the next model & its a 1.6 16v petrol. But it might give you an indication. All the main garages offered me the same: £2,000 - I put it on the Autotrader website for £2,950 & the first person to see it bought it for £2,800 - Don't know if that helps...

In today's Telegraph someone asks advice about pursuing an insurance claim against another motorist, and then discovering that he had no insurance cover himself for the particular motor bike he was riding. The response was NO, because he risked prosecution.

Of course, there may be more to this case than was revealed in the paper. But in principle, it is possible for the insurance company to refuse a claim without the policyholder automatically having commited an offence? I

For example, one insurance condition is that the vehicle is maintained in roadworthy condition. Does that mean that whenever a car is stopped in a police check and found to have say a faulty light or the wrong kind of child seat,, the driver is also prosecuted for driving without insurance?

Insurance to drive a vehicle, and insurance cover for that vehicle, are different things surely? Read more

Fullchat - it was also in my mind as such. I then did some research to try and disprove DVD but found he was right. You live and learn.

We have two small dogs (Staffordshire bull terriers), one a bit arthritic. We're looking for a car with a low rear loading sill to make it easy for them to hop in the back.

We intend buying new, and are looking for a small to medium car between 1200 and 11600cc.

So far the only thing we've found to fit the bill is the Mazda 2 which has a rear sill just 18 inches high, six inches lower than many of the alternatives.

Are there others? Suggestions much appreciated..

Looking at that second figure, have you considered a vintage Bentley?

Otherwise, Berlingo/Partner, Renault Kangoo, or Fiat Doblo would be ideal. These seem large to look at but are actually about the size of a normal hatchback and are very easy to park thanks to huge mirrors.

Deed is done, and SWMBO has just bought the above, so that my beloved 405 estate is off to a new owner.

34K on clock. Not the PDI engine, so I have been told good quality semi-synthetic only is required, and it will be on 6 month oil changes (6-7K miles) rather than variable servicing. About to ask local Skoda garage if they can consult their computer to check if brake fluid etc has been done.

Was considering oil & filter change, brake fluid swop (DOT4?), Coolant change (probaly 5 year anti-freeze). When is the cambelt due on these, and do you require tensioners etc (405 still on original after 237k)

Can the backroomers suggest any other jobs I should be considering, or advice against the above Read more

I have the handbook now, and it says 5/40 to 20/50 oil to SAE CD. Think it will be the 10/40 semisynthetic

On the recent ADAC thread, Jase1 posted a link to a summary of the results

www.weltzeituhr.com/reise/adac-pannenstatist2.shtml

One of the most striking things about this, is that the Ford Ka, which was one of the most reliable vehicles of all back in 2001-2002 , decliined sharply in reliability in 2003, and remained at this poorer level in 2004-2005.

Why? Anything to do with the introduction of the Sportka / Streetka?

Possible clues in the PDF file that Barchettaman mentions here

www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?v=e&t=41...8

But since I don't speak German, I cannot understsand the comments about the Ka. All translations welcome.

Basically it says

"Marderverbiss an den Zundkabeln (2003/2005 bes. haufig)
Lamda-sonne defekt 2003/2005
Storungen im motormanagement (bes. 2004)"

There was also
"Kupplung defekt (bis 2002)"
but I don't think that is anything to do with it. Read more

AFAIK the more recent Ka is chain cam not belt.

They've never had a belt.

Replacing fuel filter on carina e, I split the metal return line.

I lost about 2 -3 inches of line from where it meets the filter.

What i need to know basically is what sort of a"patch
" can i make to rejoin the pipe?

I tried rubber fuel hose and jubilee clips but it was not secure.........guy in factors said i did not need high pressure rubber...engine is fuel injection btw.

I dont want to go down the "Flaring" route as I am not too adept at using the cheap and nasty flaring tool I have

Thanks in advance.

If you do use the rubber pipe ( most likely I would think ) do use fuel injection pipe even though its on the return line. There has to be pressure in this line even if it isnt high pressure. And the high pressure hose is better protected against stones etc etc. just safety !

I have an 04 Focus Ghia, still under warranty. The problem I have is that since new, the cd/radio unit has been nothing but trouble, in and out of the repair shop 5 times. The latest episode was when the unit failed completely and the dealer promised a new replacement. Five weeks later I went to have the new unit fitted only to find out that it was the old one repaired. Guess what, it failed this morning, again. I have tried complaining to Ford Customer services, but getting nowhere.

Does anyone on these forums have any suggestions or alternative contacts at ford where I can speak to someone who will help resolve the issue, because so far I feel like I'm going round in circles and being treated like a patsy.

Thanks

Cheddar and YB

Thanks for coming back to me on this one. It certainly looks like it has to be by letter, especially as it's a 60 mile round trip to the nearest dealer. Because of the travelling involved I've even considered getting a second hand unit from EBay and chucking this one in the bin. But I agree with you, it should be a simple matter to sort out. I'll come back and let you know how I get on.

Many thanks
