Hi every-one. just an update on my previous posting on this subject. This case has been adjourned untill the 8th may 2007, because one of the witnesses for the defence was ill. Why it takes another six months almost, is beyond me. What his widow is going through, I cannot imagine. I will update on this in may. Thanks, Graham.

Bumped into a guy that does youth work for the local Youth Offending Team. He uses his own car a 2001 Vectra petrol (2 litre) - his mileage 230,000 miles, he bought it 5k up as a "bargain". 225,000 miles later serviced in accordance with Vauxhall's recommendations it's never come to an involantary halt, it run like new, yes it's had load of bits but it's done nearly a quarter of a million miles. Probably sell it for a grand or so if he chose. A cracking car by any measure ! Oh and the thing polishes up like a new car. Is he a mug ? Read more
The Vectra A was the Opel equivalent of our Cavalier mk3. The first Vauxhall Vectra was the B which replaced the Cavalier.
I always felt that the Vectra B was a backward step from the Cavalier mk3. GM didn't improve any of the Cavalier's faults and introduced some new ones.
I had a couple of mk2 Cavaliers and three mk3s. The prospect of a Vectra B was so depressing I hung on to my '95 Cavalier until the mk4 Astra came out as it had more interior room than the Vectra B and was more reliable. That's a decision I haven't regretted one bit.
I'm looking at replacing our Astra. I'd use the brokers I bought the current car from again, but this time their price is significantly higher than two other brokers. The cheapest deal seems to be either 'Look4my new car' and 'UK car broker'. Does anyone have any experience of either they'd be willing to share (within the 'naming and shaming' policy of course)?

I used to supply vehicles to Kev at UK Car Broker when i was at toyota - seemed a decent enough chap to me.
Hi,
I have a Y reg Vectra with a dodgey drivers window and wondered if anyone has had a similiar fault.
Sometimes when I press the button to close it it goes up slightly and then goes back down, sometimes taking about 8 attempts until it finally goes all the way up.
I have noticed more wind noise around the top of the window and on closer inspection I noticed that towards the top rear side of the glass there is a slight gap as if the window is not allighned correctly.
Does anyone know whether this is likely to just need an adjustment / lubrication or does it required a new unit?
Also there is a membrane in the door that activates the side airbag, are these difficult to replace?
Thanks for any help
Mark

The anti-trap function is being activated as the motor is seeing a stall condition due to the mis alignment of the glass.Remove the door card and check the run of the glass in the rubber runners. Also ensure that the glass is correctly located into the lifting channel, attached to the electric window regulator assy as it is only a push fit into the mastic compound. There is a small amount of adjustment to the mechanism. The side airbag sensor is clipped into the door panel and is surrounded by a plastic membrane that ensures an airtight seal, thus it is important to refit correctly when checking the window regulator. Also take care ,as switching on ignition with airbag sensor disconnected will cause the airbag light to illuminate.hth
hi, you'll have to excuse my ignorance but does anyone know why is my daughters saxo air bag warning light is coming on?
the car is v reg and has covered 54,000 miles.
is it something she's done and/or something to be concerned about?
thanx for any info. Read more
Look under each front seat, you will see a connector plug, this causes lots of issues with Peugeot / Citroen cars.
Before unplugging / fiddling with them disconnect the battery for at least 10 minutes & also do NOT use any form of multimeter / electrical test meter on any of the SRS connector plugs / wiring.
Pretensioners on the Saxo are the explosive seatbelt buckle, if the SRS system fires off the front seatbelt buckles are pulled tight by 4 inches thanks to the explosive parts ( made by Autoliv or Electrolux )
Also some later Saxos have side airbags built in to the front seats but they are a rare find.
My daughter has just had her Yaris serviced by a main dealer.
A special price for older vehicles £140. No complaints at that.
Plus coolant change & brake fluid change. More ££s than expected but convenience etc. etc. OK
Centre exaust box rotting so best to have all replaced Sir, as it may be impossible to split it from the rest of the exaust .
A small sum of £894.94 but that does include VAT and 1.2 hours labour.
I find that formal cost just a little surprising :-(((
Do they really expect the business?

And I also forgot the other advisory ....anti rollbar bushes at
£264
They tried to do me for that one too - said it was a MOT failure and wanted £200+ for the bushes. It's quite happily passed 2 MOTs since then.....

Sod the car its a lump of metal at the end of day ! Agreed
But thatwasnot a 30 mph accident ( in a obviously residential street ). By all means let the insurance replace the car but please let the authorities do smething to stop that driver gettingbehinda wheel again ! There could have been people killed because of driving standard/ability.
Hi all,
A tad of knowledgable advice is requested please.
Mrs Ian drives (although seldom) a 1995 Pride LX and I know that are critics in these parts about this vehicle. It is an unmarked example with 20k up and has never failed to give anything but faithfull and sterling service. The back seats have never seen a bum on them.
Its winter service and safety check is due (and MOT also) but I notice that the gearchange is a little sloppy and vague. (The only fault).
My question is ' is there an obvious fix for this' so that I can appear to know what I am talking about to the garage ?
Thank you in anticipation

:-) :-) at this time of year? in anglessey..............narr
Motorists in Dundee have been warned to get their cars serviced before winter sets in.
The news comes after a large number of cars were found to be in a dangerous condition during recent free vehicle safety checks.
Trading Standards Officers carried out checks over three days at Kingsway Retail Park.
The tests revealed vehicles with safety faults including defective tyres, blown bulbs and worn wiper blades.
Of 139 vehicles tested, a quarter had some sort of safety defect that would make the vehicle fail an MoT.
These results show that motorists must not be complacent about the safety of their vehicles

A further 45% had some other issue which merited an advisory note including wrong tyre pressures, or oil or fluid levels requiring topping up.
Dundee City Council's environmental sustainability services convener, Julie Sturrock, said: "This is an annual exercise which is always very much welcomed by local motorists.
"I'm pleased that our officers have been able to check three times more vehicles than last year, but these results show that motorists must not be complacent about the safety of their vehicles."

I was overtaken this week by a police car, followed by
a Golf with its NS headlight completely out. This was around
6pm, wet and windy night, through a busy village.
If the police can´t be bothered, why should the scrotes be?
This was in Frankfurt BTW.
The German Old Bill might have been going to something important.........how do you know he/she wasn't bothered?

thanks for that i was looking to do the same
