does anybody know when winter additives are added to petrol??? Read more
Hi,
Quick question - have moved on from the idea of an older diesel as my next car, and contemplating a W124 (petrol) - fab build quality, should be effortless to tour around in, and cheap (well relatively, for a 10+ year old car)
Owners clubs historically have a fantastically over-inflated view of what their cars are worth (observiation from PCGB), and the 'specialists' in the mark also believe that they are worth eye watering amounts.
Auto-trader turns up a few, but where else could I find one?
Cheers

And presumably gold plated?
Thankfully, this isn't for me. I couldn't think or worse requirements but I'm asking for a mate.
He's interested in the Vectra. Doesn't want a Mondeo because his Dad has one (madness!) and the Astra seems out of his price range.
No VW's, anything French or any other Fords. I've got him onto the Skoda Superb (doesn't like the old Octavia).
Apart from the fact that spending so little on such precise and delicate technology is doomed to fail, does anyone have any advice? Like I say - the Vectra's still in the running, as would any other decent diesel. Much as I've tried to dissuade him from it, he's adamant that a diesel is economical no matter how many miles you do and there's no changing that opinion.
Any help, suggestions or advice would be appreciated,
Adam

What do you think Phillip?!
It has been some years now since Honda brought out its Jazz with the CVT gearbox. Has anyone here got one and has it been reliable? What sort of mileage has it done? I know that there are theoretical reasons why CVT transmissions should not be as reliable as normal autos but I wondered how the things were actually going in practice. Read more
Can we hear it then please? Not that I'm paranoid, but I bought my Prelude Vti from a female pensioner who now drives a Jazz CVT...
My wifes new shape Fiesta is giving a little grief, in that it suffers heavily from misted up windows, particularly in the morning. It doesn't have air-con and my first thought is a problem with the pollen filter.
Does anyone know where it is and if it's easy to replace. Read more
Many thanks!
Whilst doing a bit of forward planning and having driven a 320d auto for a while I started to search the auto web sites for a Lexus / Honda / Toyota diesel auto. Particulalry as the recent gains in diesel exhaust technology are making them cleaner.
Why don't they make them though or am I not looking in the right place ?
It's a shame really because if you read reports about Honda's auto in the Accord it is supposed to be a cracking box (cracking as in good or wicked if you know what I mean). Read more
In an ideal world I'd have an auto, and I'm only 21! I'm lazy, rather than "over the hill".
Mt wife's car has developed an annoying noise at the rear (the car's not her's). It sounds like it's coming from the suspension.
I've read somewhere on here that this is common and I need to spray WD 40 somewhere.
Would someone kindly tell me where please.
Thanks Read more
I think it's named Nylon/Rubber lubricant on the tin. It may be a silicone spray, but not in big print. Silicone should be ok for rubber bushes, it's oil based stuff that rots it.
Hi there
Has anyone any real life, first hand experience of the mpg that the petrol 3.2V6 Signum manages? Official urban of 18mpg is a bit sobering.
I have seen one for sale at a very reasonable price and if mpg was in the mid 20s then whole life costs wouldn't be much different to the Passat tdi we have run for the last number of years. Thanks in advance Read more
Des, testdrive it, if you like it, buy it. It´s your money.
If it´s fuel economy you´re after get an Audi A2.
Good luck.
I have a 1992 940 dl sedan automatic What grade oil should I put in it I just bought a month ago and I am unsure?

The question isn't clear whether you mean for the engine or the gearbox. The specific mention that its an automatic suggests the latter.
In my view the type of engine oil is far less important than that it is changed frequently and that you use a proper oil filter with the anti-drainback valve.
I switched to a 20/50 at 200,000 miles. It does make a difference - the timing gear is quieter. I use the cheapest oil I can find, but change it every 3000 miles, and replace the oil filter every 2nd or 3rd change. The car has now done 352,000 miles, and runs as well as ever. What happens to scrapped cars once they're been cubed?

How do they separate all the metal out (which is usable) from the plastic and rubber which is useless?
In the case of the Swindon recyling place (can't remember it's name, but it was shown on a satellite channel showing rags to riches) they employ people to drain all the fluids, strip off all the trim, plastic bumpers and the like before it goes into the cube crusher.

Didn't you read the regulations on the link I posted?
There is a two month changeover phase (which we are in the middle of), not an overnight switch.
