Hi Folks
I drive a NOV 97 406 1.8 lx . I have recently had the car serviced with new coolant and i have noticed that the car has started to idlle erraticly. It often hovers between 1000- 15000rpm before settling at 800 after about 10secs. Has this got something to do with a service? i must admit it did happen once before the service but i just seem to notice it much more after the service. Any idea?

Hope someone can help.
The battery went dead in my Rover 400 key fob. It went so dead that when I put a new battery in it didn't work. How do I reprogram it? Or do I need to buy a replacement. I've heard this can be expensive? Read more
Hi,
Few days ago, the bbc morning news ran an item on ESP (electronic stability programmes), basically saying all cars should have it fitted, and less than 1% currently do..which seems a rather low stat, so i hope i heard it right.
What do people think? I am currently looking to buy a second hand zafira, and with ESP...on some models that would cost me 1K more (I get a bigger engine also).
Question is, is it worth the hassle. One person comments in a newsgroup he took his car for a service and after 1 year of driving, the computer logs showed the ESP activated a total of 0 times. Basically, drive reasonably, and it won't be needed.
Ice and snow, and oil slips I think are the only places they might realisically be needed.
so, worth the extra dosh for piece of mind.
(another stat i saw somewhere suggests the swedish motoring safety body found ESP more effective than airbags!...but of course, more cars with ESP would have airbags anyhow) Read more

My part and i both have diesel cars. h'es got a Mercedes E220 2 litre automatioc; and I've got a renault kangoo van 1700 cc
Having seen seen a program recently on tv we could both be saving a fortune using biodiesel and the program DID say that we wouldn't need any conversion kits. My concern is how do we know if our vehicles are compatible for biodiesel and is there any need for different fuel filters. Can somebody please help us?

biodiesel.infopop.cc/groupee/forums is a good place to start, look at biodiesel and then go to connections as there is a uk bit of this site.
when you first use bio you will possibly find that your fuel filter gets a bit clogged rather quickly,as bio seems to clean out your tank and lines of all the rubbish in it.
good luck Ray
Costco have got this on offer for a tad over £140 at the end of the month. Any one here had use of it or similar? Read more
Turns out this was a bigger bargain than Costco must have expected as it sold out within hours. But being the excellent retailer they are, they honoured the offer when new stocks came in. The bonus being the new stock was the N20. I got mine yesterday for a tad over £140 and first impressions are it is much better than the system fitted in my Mondeo and at less than 10% of the cost.
Speed camera locations are included for 1 month free thereafter a subscription is payable, Not sure if I would want to pay but it does work. I used it today to visit the metal men on Crosby beach and it took me there without a hitch. The directions given are far more descriptive than the Ford O/E unit.
First impressions 10/10
Found an old style Honda Civic 2.0 5 door Type S,only 10 miles, first reg jan06 on a 55 plate.Trouble is the guides only show this vehicle being made up to 04.So what am I missing? has it been sat round somewhere for two years or was there a stock of these things or could it have been made late in 05.HELP Read more
The "sitting around" could have been on a muddy, windswept airfield or in a cosy, air-conditioned dealer showroom. As long as it all looks okay, I'd go for it.
Somewhere in Oxfordshire there may still be a Sierra going around on a 94 M plate. Perfectly legit. The buyer got a bargain as well (I remember flogging it to him for about half list)

Hi,
Sorry my first post is asking questions rather than offering help..
I Have a 2003 Saab 9-3 2.2 TiD, and today I noticed a bit more smoke than usual coming from the exhaust.
I'd been in traffic on the motorway, once that cleared i put my foot down and got the usual puff of smoke by being a bit too heavy footed - however I noticed that it was randomly letting out quite a bit of smoke for 2 or 3 seconds, and finally one big puff (I mean pretty big!)
This wasn't when accelerating particularly hard (if at all).. and it happened quite a bit on my drive home.
The car has done 51,000 - so is due a service in another 3k - I notice the manual states you should change the oil and filters in a diesel engine every 6k miles if you use your car in stop start traffic often (I drive on the motorway a lot, and with it being England, that means stop start for quite a bit!)
I've only had the car a few months, could the oil or filters have anything to do with this? (I have no experience with diesel cars, so don't really know where to start)
Your help is appreciated

It seems that cars fitted with this 2.2 engine do seem to swing either way in terms of noise. If I'm in a car park or alongside one in a traffic jam, most of the ones I see do seem to be reasonably quiet, but mine was terrible.
Anyone have any recommendations of good websites for recommendations on audio upgrades? I'm just looking for a possible speaker upgrade for my Avensis, most sites I have found either do not recommend for anything other than the pre-03 Avensis, or have no 'vehicle-based' search. I don't want to turn it into a rolling boombox, just get some speakers with greater range and clarity.
So, anyone used any online retailers that they would recommend?
Cheers,

Like the sound of this. Where did you get the Calibers? Is that not a Maplin exclusive??
Thinking of buying a 2.5 litre subaru wrx sportswagon from a parallel importer. Understand that they come in from Malta or Cyprus. What are the drawbacks as there is a saving of £5-6000 compared to a similar UK car from a franchised dealer. Advice please.

According to the latest EU car pice comparison tables, Subaru offers 3 years unlimited in Cyprus or 100000km/3 years in Malta.
Ex-tax price in Cyprus comparable with UK - Malta cheaper (This is for Outback)

I have the U70T and would agree with the patchiness of support. But It works fine and I like it, especially as I have tweaked it to speak speed camera alerts and tourist info for me.
But for "operational" reasons I also have a TomTom, and that is the superior product.
Bear in mind that next month the Sony U80 is due out, with all new software, widescreen and internal sensors so that it won't lose your position if the gps signal vanishes - I'll be looking at that with interest anyway.
