Im having trouble realeasing the drain plug on my 1600 astra. The manual instructs you to undo wth your hands. The plug is orange and about the size of a small bottle top.It has grooved edges, and almost what looks like small "keyhole" locator holes on the surface. Is there a special key that fits,or should I try to use a bit more pressure to release it.Many thanks

Hi folks,
I was wondering if any one could recommend an instructor for the Pass Plus course in Northern Ireland, (Greater Belfast, North Down area). This is for my 18yr old son who has just passed his driving test. Unfortunately we could not get insurance to cover him for the main family car and therefore his experience is quite limited. I suppose following on from that insurance companies that will give some discount for it. ( I know quite a few on the 'mainland' do). The car insurance websites don't seem have a facility for putting this in.
Thanks,

It's a very worthwhile thing to do. My son got a very large discount with Norwich Union because of Pass Plus. Good luck.
M6 S/bound yesterday round Stafford.
I was a passenger and we were slack-jawed at the behaviour of a driver of a transit following a car that was obviously not going fast enough for his liking as he was less than 10 foot off his bumper doing about 86-90mph.
It was insane driving and there was simply no excuse as the motorway was very busy so the guy could not have moved over anyway.

Works even better if you have headlight washers - they create an even better cloud of spray.
I am planning a trip by motorcycle to Helsinki next summer and hope to travel through the Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania Russia etc. Does anyone have experience of these countries or should I forget the whole idea?

I've done a fair stretch of this journey and as stated you don't need to pass through russia - you can go straight from Poland into southern lithuania then up through Latvia into estonia. Although i was on public transport the road seemed of an reasonable standard.
A slightly different route that may be of more interest (well to me anyway!) would be to get a ferry over to norway then go up and over the top of Norway and Sweden and down through Finland to Helsinki.
Bought this 1999 T plate with 88k on the clock last week & has run fine untill: On my way home last night the revs continued to slowly rise as if I were depresing the accelerator when the car was in neutral. The revs continued to rise untill i depressed the clutch pedal, which saw them then drop to normal idling level. This continued all the way home, however this morning she if back to normal. Whats going on? Should I panic? Read more
Have you checked out the clutch pedal position sensor, see the link to the same issue on a Ka I posted above.
Went to buy a 03/03 Zafira 2.2 Elegance but both off-side wheel arches had paint runs in the little space by the plastic wheel arch. Was this a bad day at the Vauxhall paint shop or something more serious? Car's done 36000 and has a clean HPI check! Read more
My 06 Zafira has no paint faults I can spot anywhere - certainly no runs.
Hi,
How can I tell the bhp of a K-series by looking at it?
I've been offered a Rover 200 by the bloke who lives next door. I don't want the car, just the engine and gear box to replace the one in my GTM K3 kit car. The trouble is that he does not know the bhp of the engine, and I can't work it out either....
I'ts an L-reg 214, 3 door coupe, but we're not sure whether it's a 214i, or 214, which means (as it's the single cam) it could be the 75bhp or 95bhp. I'm not interested if it's the 75, but am if it's the 95.....
Is there any clues to tell me, numbers, bits of kit, shape of components, etc...?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I once had a 1.4 16v MPi Metro GTi and it was pretty damn nippy - thats the one i'd be looking for
The shortlist for COTY 2007 is below and the winner will be announced on 13th Nov.
Shall we 'the real experts' have a vote before then and give a reason why.
Citroën C4 Picasso, Fiat Grande Punto, Ford S-Max, Honda Civic, Opel/Vauxhall Corsa, Peugeot 207, Skoda Roomster and Volvo C30.
As much as I would like to say Civic I think the S max should win it for combining practicality and driving experience. Read more
There must be alot of people out there that like ugly
cars because it sells well.
Hire cars - I'm always getting the things for work trips. I'm sure that every civic in warrington is a hire car.
Back on topic, from the previous winners trend, looks like it Peugeot's turn as Fiat won in 04 and Renault and Toyota aren't nominated this year. FWIW, the 207 is even uglier than the civic, reminds me of Jabba the Hut.
I have a Kymco CK125 motorcycle, and the revs seem to rev all over the place between 1900 and 3000 rpm once warmed up.
What might be causing this? The mileage is only 10,000 miles, and it is a 2005 bike

I showed this problem to the garage and they think too much air is leaking in somewhere...a split hose or something like that. Otherwise, I am guesing it is a faulty auto choke. I will need to take it to my dealer...more hassle as the ones in london don't like warranty jobs which isn't veyr good is it?
guys
anybody know the exact height of the suspension setting for the front wheels for an MG F Trophy 160 SE.
The local garage pumped up the system to allow access to their ramp and then reset he system too low.
( the ride is very hard and tyres rub the body at full lock )
They have offered to reset but didn't check the orginal height.
The standard setting is 368mm ; centre of wheel to wheel arch vertical, but the trophy is lower, but by how much?

>>I wasn't aware there was a drain plug as such. I've always drained the majority of the coolant by just removing the bottom hose from the rad.
LOL, yep I've been doing it the messy way for years as well. Then I noticed that the Omega actually has a drain plug, with a spout designed to be connected to a pipe for drainage; sounds like the Astra has the same. In answer to the OP I found that on the Omega ( and probably the Astra) a large flat bladed screwdriver fiited the slot in the middle of the drain plug. It was flippin tight though.
