Driving home last night (2004 54 Fiesta 1.25) in built up area doing around 40mph when the engine suddenly cut out and the battery warning light illuminated. Lost power steering assistance and pulled it into the side where the engine started first time as usual it has been completely fine since. Why did that happen? Read more
Today I collected my Nissan Primastar from the dealership after having some minor repairs done to the bodywork.
It was pointed out to me that the black plastic around the light cluster and the areas above - ie running up to the roof at the back, were showing white streaks - due to an issue with the moulding process or material.
It was also pointed out that I should raise this with them and ask them to replace these plastic panels under warranty. That's a total of 4 panels. The rear light clusters and the small plastic domes above them.
I asked the dealership to look into this. They have ordered the panels and are going to replace them under warranty.
So, if your Trafic varient is under 3 years old and you have this white streaking effect - go and see your main dealer now! Read more
Plus I suspect you have the new/facelift model. They do look slightly different on the front and back.
Hi There,
I was hoping someone might be able to guide me in the right direction with a particular situation I have found myself in. I will try to keep it as short as possible!
I purchased a 2nd hand car from a large dealer 2 months ago. I was told the car had a full service history. However, on collection, the handbooks had all been misplaced by the garage. After much chasing around on my part, I finally got replacement handbooks. It was clear the car does not have a full service history (confirmed by VW UK). I have asked the garage for the overdue service to be completed at their cost and financial redress for the depreciation in my car given that it lacks a service history. They have refused this and offered to purchase the car back from me at £500 less than I paid for it.
I plan to call Consumer Direct tomorrow as I believe they are in breach of the Sale of Goods/Trades Description act for making false claims and also the SMTA for advice.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what else I might be able to do or am I already doing everything I can?
Many thanks in advance Read more
Nothing is ever simple is it!
I could not have returned the car for a full refund after 28 days as I was still chasing the garage to supply me with the replacement handbooks at this point. I have emails to confirm my pursuit of this. Up until then I was still being told that my replacement handbook would be fully stamped with the full service history.
This is a family run garage who have a few large dealerships throughout the region and who "pride themselves on customer service"
I think my first port of call will be to contact trading standards for further advice today. Thanks so much for all your time in trying to lead me through this. I am determined not to let this lie
Sister has a manual Corsa 1.2 MPI just over a year old. She says that she is noticing a marked reduction in power now, from when the car was new. On a local hill, she now has to go down to a lower gear to climb it, than was the case before. Everything else works as it should, though the engine sounds a little more " lumpy " than it did. Does anyone know of a problem with the 1.2MPI which would create a problem such as this within the first year?

Thank you again, much appreciated.
I've been using Shell Diesel Extra in my Golf MK5 TDi 1.9 since i brought it. If i started using BP Ultimate Diesel would i see an even better performance/fuel burn. Is there any technical differences between the two different brands that make the one better than the other. Peoples first hand impressions after using it would be useful or is these fuel just hype? Ultimate Diesel makes our creaking old 405 spring back into life. Replacing the tired old KKK with a recon Garrett turbo, increasing boost compensation and increasing presure a touch seemed to make it feel a touch younger.
hi was considering getting a galaxy to use as a taxi, I have since heard horror stories about the gearbox on this model giving trouble............
Would the vw sharan be a better bet? or maybe some of the toyotas?
Any advice greatly appreciated. Read more
Thanks for the replies, I did a bit of research on the hyundai Greg...........they seem to be thirsty beasts, both petrol and diesel.
I really like the Toyotas as i cabbed a carina e for 340,000 miles..(petrol 1.6 still going strong), but they seem to be hard to find round here.
Have been offered a tempting deal on a Galaxy 1.9 td ztec which is believe is the top of the range model with the 130 bhp engine....................anyone own one or have opinion on them?
Hi
Over the last 15/17 years, I've only driven German cars - Audi's up until recently and now a Merc.
I've heard about the brand new Moneo soon to be launched and been in the Ford S Max and the current Mondeo Ghia. I've also been in the new GM Zifira and Vectra about a year ago. Must admit, that all the models were close to the top end of their range.
My point is this - do the majority of new Fords/Vauxhall have similar or better build quality than Mercs and BMW - Audi is being caught up too.
The Ford/Vauhallls are normally a lot cheaper once the standard discount kicks in.
The warranty periods are about the same.
O'm also advised that the average warranty repair on a larger ford/vauhall is lower than a Merc/BMW and they are just as reliable.
Would people agree with me or do they know any better.
I've been tempted to change to an S Max 2:5 Titatnium or somehting that sounds like that, but at the end of the day, I fear I may be a badge snob?
BTW - Mazda.Toyota, Nissan, and a few others fit in with the above Read more
>>GM, Daimler Chrysler or Ford because these three have, as they restructure to meet future market demands, astronomical US domestic social costs to bear.<<
As you say "as they restructure" - which is more to do with the fact less people want their cars. If they continued to sell cars they could meet their costs.
As we all know the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry continue to challenge for best selling US car (Toyota usually top spot) and these cars have a reputation as being of the highest quality.
Another interesting point is that we all think that it is because Ford and GM only sell SUV's in the US and people want small cars now - well don't GM and Ford sell cars to compete with Camry and Accord - of course the have.
Plus recent sales figures for Toyota show strong growth of SUV sales in the US currently.
So IMO what is driving sales trends in the US is MORE to do with quality and reliability than vehicle choice as in SUV v normal car (although there is no doubt there is an overall decline in SUV sales in the US).
as above really, got a 94 306td which is only boosting to around 11psi after having the fuelling turned up so i suspect it's leaking boost somewhere, have renewed the intercoolr gasket, checked all the boost pipes which are also fine. only fault i can find is the exhaust downpipe gasket has gone and is blowing slightly, but surely this wouln't cause a boost issue ould it as diesel's don't rely on backpressure?

no egr till about '97. i know the turbo is driven by the exhaust gases, the leak is the joint where the turbo exits and joins the donwpipe so it's after the turbo. it's the section where you have the wire gasket with the two springs and fiddly nut and bolt

A spokesman for this company was on BBC1 lunchtime.
Has anyone had any experience of them?

I had quite some dealings with them and nearly bought my present car through them. They appeared knowledgable, professional, answered phones quickly and phoned back when they said they would. A guy called Nick Moger took me through their scheme to run mileage allowances to the benefit of both employer and employee very thoroughly and helpfully.
I was quite disapointed when they couldn't quite source the car I wanted. Overall though, they *appeared* to be very good.
No connection with them by the way.
Just read the recent thread about someone jumping a red light. I was driving about a week ago along a tri carrageway (a road with 3 lanes going in the same direction. By definition I can't say dual.) I just slipped through just as the lights were changing to amber and looked in my back mirror. A cop car having stopped at the now red lights just set off with all their lights on. Someone had jumped a red light promptly stopped when they saw the police were after them.
That made me feel sooooo good, I hope they do get points on their licence. Backroomers usally complain about the lack of cops on our roads. What other good deeds have people seen cops do to control traffic recently? Read more

I watched 3 minutes of tedium, the average London plod would have made better progress.
Dodgy battery connection, earth connection?
As (I presume) it's still under warranty, it could be worthwhile getting its memory read.
