Hi all,
Despite solving the problem with the air in the fuel line (replacement T-fitting on Fuel filter) I'm still getting air in fuel line (ran for 2 weeks ok). After dropping the car at the garage again they said that the turbo is starting to get noisy (when revving the car parked up). Given that there is still air in the fuel line which means less fuel getting to the engine, would this cause the Turbo to make the noise or is it something more sinister and expensive ?
By the way it runs on Biodiesel, not the homebrew crud but the proper stuff filtered etc...
what would the rough costs for a a new turbo or fuel pump be ?
any help would be a huge bonus...

Dilema time - The Prelude, after I get it back from the bodyshop, is starting to get a bit long in the tooth. It has done us proud so far but my business milage is now starting to get to the point where the prelude is costing too much (new abs pump needed soon) and my increasing gearth is making it less and less comfortable to drive on anything but short journeys.
So what to do! I have 2 choices at the moment - first is to get a lease car via my Ltd Co. I will be doing about 10k business miles per year and would have about £175 to spend on the car, for this I could get an Astra/Focus or my favorite choice a Ford Ranger ;o) It would mean a new car, look good at customers sites and hopefully have little in the way ongoing repair costs.
2nd choice - and the one I am leaning towards at the moment is to spend about £2k on a luxary barge, buying it as a private car and taking the 40ppm out of the business (would be better off financialy with this choice) For this money I could easily get a Nissan QX with less then 80k and all the toys - and hopefully the reliability as well - run it for 2 years or so and if need be scrap it after this time (having made £8k out of milage). Down side is the possibility of big repair bills!!!
Anything obvious I have overlooked (or cars) or any suggestions that I may want to consider? Will be looking to change just after Xmas. Read more
Actually - I think the QX was rated as quite a good handling car - like the primera fairly sharp - although ride a little firm - but - probably better then a c class.
Well, I've now done just over 2k in the Passat (2.0 TDi 140) and thought I'd offer my views so far.
Plus points
Overall build quality - inside and out
Strong performance - it's loosened up a lot now and pulls really strongly even when fully laden
Nice to drive - good feel and light controls
Loads of space
I've only tried the heated front seats twice (briefly), and I'm looking forward to those cold mornings
The engine warms up much faster than my Audi 1.9TDi
Good stereo
Niggles
That electronic handbrake takes some getting used to and seems a bit temperamental!
Water spills onto your shoes when you open the boot if the lid is wet (it runs down the sides and over the bumper)
Engine can sound a bit gruff when cold and at low speeds
Economy is a bit disappointing at the moment (about 44mpg), I was expecting about 48-50 with my driving style/routes
Difficult to check oil level on dipstick - dipstick is black! (no oil used yet as far as I can tell)
And so far no problems!
Cheers

It's okay, she's not in the 'habit' of removing anything else...
For tax reasons I need to put a value on my van - private sale.
It is as above, the SE model and low c 10,000 miles

Thanks VB
Mine is the LWB, lower mileage and newer. But doesn't have the CD player.
I guess that £9k including VAT would be about right??
The reason I need to put a valuation on it is that it needs to be "sold by me" at the current market value by the Lease Purchase company. It's a long story but essentially I have to act as their agent and sell it to a 3rd party and keep the proceeds as profit. The deposit and lease payments have been a cost to the business in full.
I have a 1992 205 1.1 (carb) Problem is it will start when cold but after being driven about and turned off it won't start again. The engine turns over fine but won't fire. Have replaced the distributor and cap and put on a brand new coil with a new lead but no difference. Any ideas??? Read more
just to let you all know the problem has been solved. It was the ignition module that was at fault.
Like many people I have the Focus intermittent speedo problem. The speed sensor is usually thought to be the problem.
However, as the sensor is just an electronic device, I would have thought it should either work or not work - I can't see how it should be intermittent. This got me wondering if people are changing the sensors just to cure an intermittent electrical connection. Unfortunately I have been unsuccessful in working out how to remove the sensor connector to check this theory.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

This week I've had the misfortune to have to travel to Finchley from Weybridge.
Monday went via, Bedfont Lakes, A4 Heatthrow, A312,M40 Hanger Lane,A416, What a nightmare. Nearly 2 hours
Today went M25, only 5 mins to do the 4 miles to Junc 11, oh that's right, normally takes 20+ mins but this week is half term, fantastic, upto Junc 19 A41 into Watford, filled up, always cheap, at this site, and join the M1, empty and straight down on to the North Circular - a stress free 1 hour journey .

I have just spent two weeks with a hire car that had a 30 second delay before auto locking the doors,
It may be a good security feature but with no warning from the major hire company I was a little confused until I investigated what was happening.
I saw two unfortunates that had managed to auto lock their keys inside.
From the same hirer I had a Scenic with an electronic dipstick that lit up the dash with warning messages if I parked on a slope.
US cars with dash light dimmers that switch on the internal lights
US cars that have the filer cap and trunk release buttons in the glove box.
What other features should hirers be aware off? (VX indicators?) Read more
A colleague locked themselves out of their new BMW 1 series - something along the lines of automatic unlocking of the door through a proximity sensor detecting the key, putting coat on back seat with key still in pocket, car detecting key inside vehicle and re-locking for security. Sounds weird but I might have forgotten some of the details.

I had similar problem with air in fuel line. Replacing the T-fitting did not stop the air. I changed to a different fuel filter, which didn't have a connection for T-fitting, threw the T-fitting away and joined the pipes together. No problem with air since then
