How easy/difficult is it to remove the carpet from a VAG group car? (SEAT Toledo in this case)

Well known fault with the pollen filter means the carpet has been soaked a few times. I want to fix the leak and get the carpet out to check for damage at the weekend. Apparently some of the electronic control modules are under the carpet (I thought I'd left that sort of 'logic' behind when I sold the 306...)

I know it won't be a quick job, but will it 'flow' or will I end up a gibbering wreck? Read more

Good morning all, what a lovely day to talk about tyres.
Have been trying to order some Eagle F1's GSD2 in recent times and climbing everest would be easier. Virtually every fitter I called for a quote over the past few days tells me most varieties of Goodyear are on back order and have been for some months. Are Goodyear having problems? Seems that the factory in South Africa is having problems...with what I do not know.
Anyone else having the same problems or anyone know whats going on?

Yup it's an oil pump, as for the engine some on the reponse saying Hyundai 2 litre & other saying Nisaan 2 litre.
It's not a Duetz & it's fairly modern as it's DIS & Fuel injected, but not turbo'd.

Thought a set of these would look good on your Focus Adam ;o)

The Talksport ( 1053-1089) radio presenter looks likely he will stand for UKIP in the next London Mayoral elections - his main policy is the removal of the London Congestion charge- hooray- thus apart it would be worth voting for him just to break the stranglehold the traditional parties have over this country, whilst having very similar policies Read more

I'm all for James Whale - a rare case of a man, I feel, in tune with the bulk of the population on the majority of subjects, whether it's motoring, getting rid of the politically correct etc.

At least he's well versed in treating some of the crackpots who phone him up on TALKSport with the contempt they usually deserve.

I took my Rio into the local dealer for its first service and I noticed when I collected it that the odometer was reading 0. When I challenged the dealership they told me that the odometer was faulty and they had had to replace it. I was told that the original milage was now stored on a chip? Does this sound right considering everything was fine when it went in to be serviced? Also is this going to have an affect when it comes to selling/ trading in the car? Any help would be appreciated. As AS says above you can set digital milometers to any mileage you want ,they are just to lazy to do it having probably damaged the old themselves.Take it back and demand they put it right.

Hi all,

Despite solving the problem with the air in the fuel line (replacement T-fitting on Fuel filter) I'm still getting air in fuel line (ran for 2 weeks ok). After dropping the car at the garage again they said that the turbo is starting to get noisy (when revving the car parked up). Given that there is still air in the fuel line which means less fuel getting to the engine, would this cause the Turbo to make the noise or is it something more sinister and expensive ?

By the way it runs on Biodiesel, not the homebrew crud but the proper stuff filtered etc...

what would the rough costs for a a new turbo or fuel pump be ?

any help would be a huge bonus...

I had similar problem with air in fuel line. Replacing the T-fitting did not stop the air. I changed to a different fuel filter, which didn't have a connection for T-fitting, threw the T-fitting away and joined the pipes together. No problem with air since then

Dilema time - The Prelude, after I get it back from the bodyshop, is starting to get a bit long in the tooth. It has done us proud so far but my business milage is now starting to get to the point where the prelude is costing too much (new abs pump needed soon) and my increasing gearth is making it less and less comfortable to drive on anything but short journeys.

So what to do! I have 2 choices at the moment - first is to get a lease car via my Ltd Co. I will be doing about 10k business miles per year and would have about £175 to spend on the car, for this I could get an Astra/Focus or my favorite choice a Ford Ranger ;o) It would mean a new car, look good at customers sites and hopefully have little in the way ongoing repair costs.

2nd choice - and the one I am leaning towards at the moment is to spend about £2k on a luxary barge, buying it as a private car and taking the 40ppm out of the business (would be better off financialy with this choice) For this money I could easily get a Nissan QX with less then 80k and all the toys - and hopefully the reliability as well - run it for 2 years or so and if need be scrap it after this time (having made £8k out of milage). Down side is the possibility of big repair bills!!!

Anything obvious I have overlooked (or cars) or any suggestions that I may want to consider? Will be looking to change just after Xmas. Read more

Actually - I think the QX was rated as quite a good handling car - like the primera fairly sharp - although ride a little firm - but - probably better then a c class.

Well, I've now done just over 2k in the Passat (2.0 TDi 140) and thought I'd offer my views so far.

Plus points
Overall build quality - inside and out
Strong performance - it's loosened up a lot now and pulls really strongly even when fully laden
Nice to drive - good feel and light controls
Loads of space
I've only tried the heated front seats twice (briefly), and I'm looking forward to those cold mornings
The engine warms up much faster than my Audi 1.9TDi
Good stereo

Niggles
That electronic handbrake takes some getting used to and seems a bit temperamental!
Water spills onto your shoes when you open the boot if the lid is wet (it runs down the sides and over the bumper)
Engine can sound a bit gruff when cold and at low speeds
Economy is a bit disappointing at the moment (about 44mpg), I was expecting about 48-50 with my driving style/routes
Difficult to check oil level on dipstick - dipstick is black! (no oil used yet as far as I can tell)

And so far no problems!

Cheers
