Could anybody tell me where the fuse is located serving the rear fog light? The car is 2001 and 2.0L, manual. Thanks. Read more

I have a 1994 VW Golf GTI 2Litre DOHC and have just replaced the drivers door window motor & mechanism, I don?t think I?ve interfered with any wiring but since then the interior light, glove box light & electric sunroof have stopped working. I?ve checked the fuses & they are intact. Does anyone have any ideas what the problem might be or know if this could be related to the central locking or door mechanism in anyway?

It points to a problem with fuse 16 (15 amp) as this is the fuse for the sunroof & the interior lights. If you've checked the fuse and its ok, could you have damaged the wiring behind the fuse box in any way? Not sure, but there must be a way to see if there is current going into that particular fuse connection.

Ay about 3am this morning, whilst driving downhill from the university in Huddersfield I encountered a hole in the road, about 18" square and 6" deep. The few cones at the side of the road that should have been surrounding the hole had been moved out of the way. There was no steel plate over the hole preventing me or other hapless travelled from falling in.

I now need a new rim and tyre whch I can easily source now I'm back in sunny Luton but I could do with help knowing the name of the road that this hole was on, a pic of the hole would be good if anyone's local enough to do me a favour.

Contact details of the local council and the contractors and which one I should invoice for the replacement wheel and tyre will also be helpful.

just driven through huddersfield tonight and if you mean the hill down to sainsbury's roundabout (used to be perry.s /ford dealership here ) then the road is being resurfaced and i saw at least one dangerous grate but it was coned off.
If it is here then the street lights are appaling and i would put in a claim if i was you.

Just under twelve months ago a colleague bought a Cooper S with leather and sat-nav for £18000 (used). He got it on the basis of its 'rock solid' residuals. A change of circumstances has led to him havig to change it.

He got £11000 from the dealer. He was absolutely shocked and feels like he's been sold a pup by the motoring press. The car has, of course, been put back on the forecourt with a significant mark up. I'm not surprised, but I bet a lot of current mini owners will be. Read more

The trouble with Saabs is that even if they design a totally new car from the ground up it still manages to look like another facelift of the original saab 99 of the 1970's!

I have a Renault Espace 1999 2.2dT. Last week the expansion bottle cap blew out and the water was boiling out of the bottle. After several attempts and 'hoping' it was 'air in the system' I have realised that it is a head gasket job, at least.

No Haynes manual out for this model yet, but I do have the French 'Revue Techinque' which cover the series III Espace. After several hours translation it states that the enginee has to be removed, or I should say the car body has to be lifted off of the engine. Now I would like to think that some bright guy out there has found a way to remove the head without all this hassle. Mind you once the engine is on the floor everthing is accessable, such as timing marks, cam belt, turbo, manifolds etc. The real issue with engine removal just for the head gasket is that so many other systems have to be compromised. The radiator, Aircon, Brakes, gearbox, suspension, running gear etc.

If I have to do it this way I will, but I would be grateful for any input the memebers of the forum could make.
Thanks mikellfr Read more

Can anyone confirm if a 2001/2002 Astra DTi 1.7 is 'common rail' or did this get introduced with the later CDTi 1.7 engine? Would I be right in thinking the earlier 1.7 is a smaller version of the 2.0 DI engine or is it an updated version of the original 1.7 Isuzu diesel engine seen in older models and Vectra?
I am looking to buy one and would prefer the non common rail thinking about simplicity and using bio fuels.

Thanks Read more

The Y17dt is not a common rail diesel and yes it is an updated version of the original Isuzu unit fitted to previous GM models.Btw the 1.3 cdti fitted to the corsa is a Fiat multijet common rail diesel.hth

Confession time.

I've made the classic mistake of instead of measuring twice before cutting, I only measured the once.

In doing so, I've just deleted the whole of the above named thread, instead of just Fullchat's misplaced post that was meant to have gone to the Richard Hammon thread.

Fortunately I've managed to salvage an off line version of the thread, and I'm in the process of restoring it the best way I can.

Hi- we're planning on a trip to the Imperial War Museum tomorrow (Sunday), and thinking about driving from Reading in the early-ish morning to a tube station car park, and taking the tube from there. The museum is near Waterloo, Lambeth North, Southwark and Elephant & Castle stations.

Can anyone recommend a particular station to leave the car, or suggest a better idea?

BTW to take the train all the way would be £33 for the 3 of us, and take too long we reckon.

Cheers,

I was there yesterday too, and thought it was very good... Was only five minutes walk from Lambeth North tube station. Girlfriend went shopping and I did something interesting instead!

A prediction re Top Gear made months ago - Lud Fri 22 Sep 06 12:31

Yes, very true. Lots of bloodthirsty characters about and always have
been.

As has been pointed out, most shunts in mainstream motor sport do not involve bloodshed, nothing more than a quick run past the doctor for the driver and a nice rest. I can't remember anyone ever being pleased or thrilled by an accident in which a driver was killed or seriously hurt. The suggestion that people watch any form of motor sport, with the possible exception of American oval racing which is unutterably boring and incomprehensible, therefore crying out for light relief, in the hope of seeing shunts is frankly absurd.

Paradoxically, the most dangerous form of motor sport is probably vintage hillclimbing. One or two drivers are perched terrifyingly high on ancient chassis with 24-litre aeroplane engines driving the rear wheels through chains, and of course there aren't any roll bars.

Does anyone think people go to Shelsley Walsh in the hope of seeing someone die? Pah.
