Hi Guys

Spending some time searching through the forum I'm interested to know where the design of the 1.25 Duratec petrol engine came from? Notes in the forum seem to point to it being a Mazda/Yamaha design - can anyone give a definitive answer?

Thanks very much Read more

Had a chance to see one yesterday, but locked up so I could only peer through the windows. Usual problem - 7 seats but little luggage space with them all up. The one on display was a 2.0TDi Zetec and looked well specced, but the 15 inch wheels looked too small.

The handbrake lever is huge - more reminiscent of a throttle control lever from a 1950s Russian heavy freighter aircraft and it looks very close to the gearstick - it's also in a position where kids climbing around (as they do in such vehicles) could damage the handbrake or themselves.

It was priced at just over £23,000, the standard equipment took up over half a page of A4, only extra was metallic paint. Read more

I can?t comment on the Galaxy, but I?ve just had an S-max for the last 4 days and it was a cracking car. Beleive ot or not the handbrake has a lovely fluid action, really nice to use. If I get a chance this afternoon I'll post more details.

Looked pretty good actually.
Ford Freedom Limited (I think)
Looked like a Mondeo estate on steroids - LHD so probably a US import.
Anyone know anything about it? Read more

This reaffirms my opinion that this and the Ford 500 are
based on the chassis of our current Ford Mondeo. Different to
XC90/S60/V70/S80. >>

No, I thoght the 500 was Mondeo / X-Type based though it seems that it is more closely related to the Volvos albeit with the 3.0 Duratec.

is there any way of checking the power steering pump on a 2003 ford focus 1.6?
is there anyway to check its overall condition?

alot of people in my car club fit additional oil coolers, which i can see makes sense on a track only car

i see them complain/mention that their oil takes forever to warm up, or never goes over xxx degrees

surley driving for say 20mins until the oil passes 80 degrees is daft, and wastes fuel and increases engine wear?

i know having oil running at crazy high temps is bad, but isnt it almost as bad having cool oil all the time

any ideas what the safe /best temps for oil is.....my manual states not to drive hard until 80deg buts doesnt say alot about how hot is too hot Read more

Can somebody help. After having a 24,000 mile service my Primera was returned to me. The next day I experienced loss of power after idle. I found that if I switched engine off and restarted the power was restored. If clutch was disengaged the revs would return. Reported this to dealer who had car in for inspection and they recalibrated fuel pump. Fault not rectified. The dealer has also re-programmed the engine management system. On one journey the fault occurred and an engine symbol was showing on dash with instruction "there may have been a malfuntion in the engine management system. Do not drive at high speed and contact Nissan Dealer a.s.a.p. Dealer then found bad earth and replaced. Fault still not rectified. After putting up with this situation for over 6 months the car is still not performing properly. The dealer is now saying that it could be a problem with the fuel pump. If this is the caseand they strip it down and if they find corrosion due to water penetration then my warranty would not be valid and I am looking at a £2,000 bill. How can this be? I still have two years to run on my warranty. How can I tell if they are being truthful or trying to get out of their obligations under the warranty? Thanks

Sorry about late reply. Get them to check boost sensor and throttle sensor. I had a smilar problem which didn't show up when connected to Consult but when checked properly showed up. Worth a look.

hi,
my daughter complained that her car was over-heating when i had a look at it i discovered the header tank was tainted with oil and the inside of the cap had the familiar white gunge normally found on the inside of the oil filler cap when water has enter the oil.
on this occasion there isn't any sign of water on the inside of the oil filler cap on on the dipstick.
would you say this is a head gasket blown and, if so, is it a fairly straightforward job?
any comments welcome

There are loads of k-series rovers in scrap yards in perfect nick but overheated engines...................my brother has a factory built k series Caterham 7 that did it's first head gasket at 7000 miles. Crap engines. That's Rover for you.
