I have a 'K' reg 626 and i seems to be losing water. It needs the water topped up every couple of days but i dont know where all the water has gone. there is no oil in the water and vice versa. I have been told that the head gasket needs replaced but with no oil in the water could this be true?? The engine sits about 2000 revs even when warm and has a tendancy to bounce between 750-1500 revs when the water is low. Is this normal?

Looks like the future is a bit brighter for diesels after those clever people at Honda have developed a next-generation diesel engine that reduces exhaust gas emissions to a level equal to a petrol engine. The new diesel engine employs a revolutionary NOx catalytic converter that enables a reduction in NOx emissions sufficient to meet stringent U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Tier II Bin 5 emissions requirements (based on Honda calculations). Honda plans to introduce its next-generation diesel engine in the U.S. within three years.
They have also developed the next stage of i-VTEC technology with the development of the Advanced VTEC engine, which provides high performance along with outstanding fuel economy and lower emissions. The new engine combines continuously variable valve lift and timing control with the continuously variable phase control of VTC (Variable Timing Control) to achieve a world-leading level of performance and a 13% improvement in fuel efficiency (in comparison to their 2.4 i-VTEC). Honda plans to release a production vehicle equipped with the new engine within three years.
Looks like they plan on staying at the forefront of engine technology.
We can see in 3 years if they have done enough.

Well, I'm happy with a compromise of 258bhp, 444NM with most of this available across a huge plateau and giving real urge from a lazy 1500RPM, and 29mpg.
This from 2.4 litres of petrol burning five cylinder motor, which also means I can hang the revs out when I want to.
Boy does it sound good! :-)
Can anyone please advise me on the safe jacking points for Peugeot 306. The 306 is S reg with a 1.9 TD engine. I have been unable to find out anywhere, and it is not clear when looking underneath the car.
Any help or advice greatly appreciated, Cheers!

If it's jacking using the standard jack for changing a wheel there are jacking points at either end of the sill. If you are jacking the car to do work on it then jack it under somewhere like the end of the bottom arm then support it on a securely positioned axle stand.
A cheeky request for anyone with a trade account with Manheim. I am trying to get a vague idea of the sale catologue for the auction at Bristol tomorrow but you can either use faxback (at 80p a min) or need a trade account. My experience of fax back has been poor in the past so was hoping I may be able to appeal to someone who has a trade account who could download the catologue in pdf format.
thanks for any help

I've bought a 98 2ltr GSI, as repairable. The speedo stopped working, garage diagnosed duff wheel sensors. While waiting on the ordered replacement parts the alarm went off one night and the owner found that there was an eletrical fire at the ABS.
I gather that the car needs an abs module, wheel sensors and some wiring to put right.
However it doesn't seem to explain why the car continues to run after you've turned off the ignition and removed the key. Not a rough idle like run on. Actually continues to purr away. If you remove a battery lead, it stops and once the lead is replaced, it runs okay again.
Anyone aware of ignition wiring that runs through the ABS loom? Read more
Sounds like gloves are a good idea then, thanks.
I picked this car up at the begininng of the week and ran it down the road, by time I got home it was stopping on the key okay, so presumably the shorted wires have vibrated away from each other.
Not a solution but that's the conclusion to this problem.

Top Gear may be suspended for a little while, so we'll just have to make do with 5th Gear instead.
Tonight (25/09/06), Channel 5 - 8pm.
They've moved location from their dreary base (with that hollow echo in the background) in the last series to The Ace Café, as well as having a new presenter - Tim Lovejoy.
Whether they go through with what's listed for tonights episode because of recent events with Hampster, we'll have to wait and see.
"There's lots to look forward to - we were the only car show allowed behind the scenes of the car stunts in the forthcoming Bond movie, Casino Royale; we've been teaching England's top cricketers Freddie Flintoff and Kevin Pietersen how to race; and we've got plans for our most spectacular car crash ever."

>> so it's still really bad then.........
TVM must have been watching a repeat of last Monday's episode.
Quite why anyone would do that is anyone's guess - unless
of course they didn't believe it was that bad first time
around!
It's fascinating in its dire 'ness' . I don't know who that piece of wood is, as VBH's co-presenter but I reckon a piece of wood has more life and isn't so wooden. Terrible presention and no spontaneity but I expect he's a good family man (we at least saw some members of his family).
Strangley enough and I hate to have to admit this but certain aspects of this programme do have some useful informative items, in fact moreso than that more polished TG programme on BBC2.
Hi Guys
Spending some time searching through the forum I'm interested to know where the design of the 1.25 Duratec petrol engine came from? Notes in the forum seem to point to it being a Mazda/Yamaha design - can anyone give a definitive answer?
Thanks very much Read more
Excellent thanks Cheddar :o)

Had a chance to see one yesterday, but locked up so I could only peer through the windows. Usual problem - 7 seats but little luggage space with them all up. The one on display was a 2.0TDi Zetec and looked well specced, but the 15 inch wheels looked too small.
The handbrake lever is huge - more reminiscent of a throttle control lever from a 1950s Russian heavy freighter aircraft and it looks very close to the gearstick - it's also in a position where kids climbing around (as they do in such vehicles) could damage the handbrake or themselves.
It was priced at just over £23,000, the standard equipment took up over half a page of A4, only extra was metallic paint. Read more
I can?t comment on the Galaxy, but I?ve just had an S-max for the last 4 days and it was a cracking car. Beleive ot or not the handbrake has a lovely fluid action, really nice to use. If I get a chance this afternoon I'll post more details.

Yes, if the water is going straight out through the exhaust system due to the head gasket leaking on the exhaust side, rather than into the oil ways.
Get a garage to test for hydrocarbons (HC) in the coolant using a gas analyser to see if exhaust gasses are present.
