Remote has stopped working on 1995 Astra. key will unlock the doors but as soon as a door is opened the alarm goes off. It doesn't seem to bother anyone else apart from me?
Is it just a new battery that is needed in the remote or something more expensive? I thought that if the remote packed up you should be able to revert back to the good old fashioned key? Read more
Hi people,
I am a newbie after being pointed in this direction for some help and firstly must appologise for jumping straight in and asking for help but I am completely stuck!
I have purchased a 1994 Celica GT-Four ST205 (UK model) at an auction recently for a very, very good price (I will tell you what I got it for if anyone is interested) and it is generally in very good condidtion with the original full Toyota UK service history.
However the one (not so small) problem it has is that the clutch is completely gone. I have tried Fensport (toyota specialists) and Toyota themselves for a replacement clutch including fitting but cannot get a total price so far for less than the (I think extortionate) £900 that Toyota want.
If anyone has any ideas on where to go and what I should be paying I would be extremely gratefull as I am hoping to get it sorted and then sell the car on.
With that in mind I dont want to register on the GT4 owners club as I will be selling it straight on again (the missus doesn't want it parked as a feature on the driveway - so it must go sooner rather than latter) and I will not get anywhere near what I hoped without the new clutch!
Many thanks for your help and once again sorry to have to jump straight into asking for help its not the way I would have liked but I have only just found this website from a friend.

Many thanks for all your help guys - I will give them a ring and the ebay item is looking good too! I think I will look round for some quotes to fit if I supplied after trying the other options first.
I paid just £1900 for it with FSH (UK Toyota), HPi clear and just 76k miles!
Then found out about the clutch... doh... talk about every cloud and all that!
Thanks again guys!
There are not many thing I find really funny, but just try this

"The papers will be sent to DVLA, Swansea for the records to be amended and replacement V5C Registration Certificates will normally follow within 4 weeks of receiving your confirmation letter from the Local Office. However, if a V62 was used to support your application it could take up to 8 weeks."
Yes, a Russian has bought LDV, the Birmingham van builder, for £50m, despite it losing £4m a month. His plans are to expand sales by 50% next year.

No, it was white with raised pimple-dents made by chucking heavy bits and pieces about inside the van.
I have just read the review of this car in The Independent today. Sounds like some engine (170 bhp) but are there any drawbacks to having a supercharger and turbocharger? Is it all a bit too complex and likely to be a maintenance nightmare? Read more
Lets hope that the Tsi isn't one of those engines that
'prefers' 98 RON like the FSi, as this could put off
potential customers (not just the extra cost of 98, but in
some towns, its not available at every station).
Since fuel prices went wild I've been running my 1.6FSI exclusively on 95RON with little noticable dip in performance or economy.
Still averages ~40mpg with about 2/3rds town driving.
I guess you have seen this on the news this AM, the PM in CA, a conference hosted by BP, I wont bore you with the details though it was yet another PR coup for Toyota re the Prius, when oh when is someone in authority going to point out:
1/ That a 60mpg Prius struggles to do 60mpg not least of which because it is dog slow so most drivers have to push it hard just to keep up with other traffic.
2/ That it costs almost twice as much in carbon terms to make a Prius than it does, for instance, a diesel Focus that is faster, better to drive, more spacious, cheaper to buy and does do 55mpg, not to mention infinitely better looking!
Perhaps it is a case of True Lies rather than Total Recall !

I wonder which vehicle around now has the lowest CO2 foot print for the average of 12k miles a year for 5 years? Anything needing batteries will want them changing so they're out. It will probably be a panda running on reclaimed chip fat :-)
Some place in Lichfield has developed an electric smart conversion. Only specially selected businesses are going to be allowed to try them out initially. No info on how much they cost or whether you can find an old smart with a wrecked engine to save a few quid...it supposedly improves their performance but somehow I imagine most people will end up feeling like they're Ernie...

crashed my S-reg fiesta 1.3 finesse last night, value approx £800-900?
skidded on a corner and hit the kerb with the passenger side wheel, wheel buckled and looks like it's pushed the wheel mounting (?) back, with the tyre impacting onto the wing behind the wheel and pushing that back so that the door can't be opened. front part of wing un-damaged, rear part slightly pushed out of shape, but no idea on the stuff that keeps the wheel on (?)
anyone got an idea as to what the repair might cost? need to know if it might be written off or not.

As someone who was contemplating buying the forthcoming Honda CRV, which is due to be launched later this year, if the preview pictures are to be believed, the thing is so ugly, there is no way I will be buying one.
What a pleasant surprise however to see this week`s Auto Express release of pictures of the forthcoming Focus 4 x 4, - if it performs only half as well as it looks, it should be IMHO be a real cracker.!!!!!!

I have just got my latest toy - an XDA Mini S, a phone/PDA combined with lots of twiddly things to play with. The music is very good too when using the headset provided. I would like to put Tomtom on it as well so that I have phone/diary/satnav all in one box and just carry one piece of technology around with me, plus the gps receiver, rather than several. I have used Tomtom on an IPAQ very satisfactorily and apart from a somewhat smaller screen cannot see too many disadvantages to using the XDA in this way. However chums tell me that there can be a lot of frustrating fiddling about with bluetooth connections, registry edits etc etc in order to get it installed. In which case why not just buy a standalone, plug it in and get on with it. especially as we are off to France in a fortnight and I want it up and running for our touring holdiay over there. I am not too worried about the relative costs involved and am more concerned about hassle free reliability. I would be very interested to hear any views on using Tomtom on a phone/PDA set up.
Many thanks in advance, MGs Read more
Many thanks to all for your comments. I have just ordered the Tomtom software for my XDA together with a mount from EBay. I am hoping that the set up will be problem free, I can live with a certain amount of pairing challenge, in order to enjoy the benefit of having all the technology in one box.
Thanks MGs

update - changed battery on key fob and all ok now.
