Been looking at a Fiat Croma 1.9td 16v 150ps manual.

Anyone driven or own one, whats your views on these. I know these use the Alfa/Vectra/Saab engine made by fiat.

Gromit's point may partially answer Xileno's question. Maybe the families who used to buy second-hand Volvos, and keep up demand and therefore prices, now go for MPVs. Shorter, more economical and as much room inside if you don't have 7 seats up.

I'm not running down Volvos - but for a family with 2 or 3 children on a tight budget a Scenic or Picasso will seem to make more sense.

Hello all,

Did you know that if you buy a car with a very popular after market induction kit and by some act of god you accidently break it (like I did when replacing the head gasket) you can not get a replacement part from the supplier.....they will only consider supplying piece parts 'if' they deciede it was a warranty failure.............

Has anyone else ever come across this issue.....on of the 'retailers' of this popular filter kit does not have the parts either as they return them to the very popular manufacture.....

Hummmmmmm....bit of a cop out I think...I left with a very expensive useless induction kit that only has a small plastice pipe borke, but it is under too much strain to glue/fix........

Thought or comments? Read more

All,

Thankyou for your comment....just to clear some matters up.....I did not fit the induction it, it was already fitted to car when I brought it...fyi: it is an Impreza 2.0Turbo. She also came with a scooby back box...a right noisey thing, but I have already changed it for a standard......

I intent to replace the enire arrangement back to a standard...but what I will do is replace the std air filter with a K&N or pipercross purely for the fact I can it and it will last a lot longer.....

To be honest I would not personally fit an induction kit, but it was already on the car.......

Thanks

Hello All

My 2002 HDi 110, 96k miles, is leaking diesel from "a joint around the high pressure pump" according to my independent garage. They are trying to sort it but say it may need to go to a specialist.
Is it a simple fix? as I do not want to spend a lot on it as I think it is getting towards bye bye time.

Also the tailpipe has fallen off, the rest of the exhaust is fine but appears to be one piece. Are replacement sections made? Eurocarparts do not list any exhaust for this car.

Thanks

John.

Screwloose.

Thanks for you help.

I can see no need for the pipe ever to be undone, all my fuel problems have been at the back end.

The garage took the car to a "specialist" who said I need a new pump. I will find out how "specialised" they are.

I can now see why you and Aprilia warn about these systems.

My X25XE-engined Vectra often exhibits ecu trouble very briefly, without running problems, but I am unable to make sense of the codes which are usually "10-1-10-10" or "10-3-3-5". These do not comply with the format indicated in the Haynes fault codes manual or the "OBD-II" universal codes. Where can I get a decode for this format? Read more

i agree.............i am very very wary and usually waste good money on wrong codes from vauxhalls im not a fan and only hate pewgots more venehmently........

Ford Fiesta 1.400 cc petrol Duratech engine 2003.

I have just changed the spark plugs on the above car at 31,000 miles. I have set the gap at 1.3mm, but there is now a slight missfire at slow speeds.
Is this the correct measurment for the gap, as the car was running OK before I changed them.

Red Baron

1.3mm for a modern-ish engine is enormous. Try 1.0mm maximum. 0.9mm should do as well.
If you've bought the correct spark plug, then the gap will be correct.

Hi,

Can anyone tell me what the law/regulations are regarding swittching on headlights?
Its been cloudy last two days or so and at times visibilty has been poor (ie diffcult to see other road users)
is there a specific time when its compulsory to have lights on?

I think you'll find that 'hours of darkness' means (as far as the Road Traffic Act goes) half an hour before the published time of sunset (as described above) and half an hour after the published time of sunrise. This means that twilight is also covered.

I think it is still the case that you can drive around in a city (i.e. within a street lamp lit area and 30mph limit) on your side lights, although i wouldn't want to do it. (Don't quote me on this one, cos I don't know whether it's changed)

Has ayyone suffered the same problem as me?
I bought a car from a dealer ( who I trust, and have bought from before) almost 2 months ago .he agreed to do the DVLA paperwork, which he has confirmed he has done. But I still don't have the owenr's doc (v5?)
Apparently they have a big backlog and calling them is a waste of time.
if they do have a big backlog, why? Has there been some sudden surge in carbuying activity? Read more

My experience during July this year:
Change of address for two cars and a motorbike
One car and the bike processed within a week
Second car not processed after two weeks (despite log book being
sent in the same envelope as the others)
Called DVLA
Navigated phone menu
Phone answered on second ring
Answer given (was processed today) inside a minute
Sure enough, log book arrived the next day
Give 'em a call.

Re same envelope you were lucky!

Our car mileage rules changed on 1 April 2006.

Main rule change is this:

"All employees who submit mileage claim forms for journeys undertaken after 1 April 2006 are required to provide VAT fuel receipts."

"The employer will not process car mileage claims for payment if the empoyee fails to submit fuel receipts in support of the claim."

Due to the fact we get paid four weekly mileage claim periods nearly always straddle two months.

The period in question is 13 March to 9 April 2006, due to me forgetting I have no VAT receipts for this period and the claim was lodged in early July. Having due regard to the wording of the rules above should I be paid for journeys undertaken in March? Read more

Update - I have won the argument and will be paid in full.

The first post after my original post was what was being argued by my employer - if the claim was made after 1 April I needed a VAT receipt regardless of when the journeys were made. We were informed of the new rules in mid March!

The next post is how I read it and took in to the argument the full sattement, not just parts of it. What they meant to say was the first assumption, but due to a cock up the rules were as I typed.

A VAT receipt is needed as my employer can claim back the VAT element of the fuel element of my mileage payment, but they now need evidence to show VAT has been paid on the fuel purchase. As I drive a diesel a quick visit to a lorry park to buy some cheap fuel from an Eastern European trucker or a trip to the local farmer for some red diesel could be a possibility.

Their parts never have instructions though!
You have to buy them seperately!
