Being the proud uncle of James, my entire family is investing in child seats.

My mum and dad have a (03 model) Nissan Almera, and they have found it impossible to get a child seat to fit. I can't find anything on the Nissan website.. anyone got any advice? Read more

Hi Everyone.

I was brought up in Brighton and have moved to London. I have lived in Fulham for 3 year now.

I still don't feel like I am at home yet. Even though Fulham is supposed to be a lovely area, I find the streets narrow, the park ok and the people, well, very busy and have no time.

I ride a motorbike around London, and can park for free and go everywhere easily. But I just can't appreciate to the traffic, the very quiet people, the stress etc.

I have a good job, 10 minutes to work in Hammersmith. Is it just me, or do I need to adopt a new fresh approach to London.

I love Brighton though. When I lived there, I didn't really appreciate it that much. But it has huge parks, loads of geat places to go, lovely streets, sea air, wonderful riding and driving with little traffic compared to London.

Is it soemthing I need to deal with myself, or is it some snobbery? Anyone in a similar boat? What can I do to change my perception of London...any great places I can go to here (apart from Soho LOL)

Greg: you need one or more circles to circulate in. Start off with colleagues, existing friends and relations and work your way outwards.

London seems and often is a harsh place, vast and basically indifferent, but it is inhabited largely by ordinary decent human beings. This harshness makes people adopt a defensive posture. This and the general roughness of modern manners can make it hard for a diffident or shy individual to make friends.

Give it time, go to a couple of parties, cultivate those of like mind. You can be sure of one thing: among 7 or 8 million there will be many such.

I've just clicked on the link about the rare FBS Census sports car sold at auction, one of only 5 made. I also looked at more pics of these cars on Google images.

My verdict - so ugly that if you pranged it you would notice the dents! Read more

Maybe they represent the real world of old cars that are useable (if so, I'll have both) rather than the airy-fairy nonsense of dealer ads in glossy classic car magazines, aimed - I guess - at separating investment bankers from their bonuses.

Question Land Rover
martin_d12

I want to swap my Citreon Synergie for a Land rover Discovery as we have just bought a caravan and need some decent pulling power. ( No jokes about caravan owners please)

I am looking for a 2.5 Diesel but they are as rare as rocking horse excrement. Is there much fuel consumption difference between the 2.5 diesel and the 3.0 diesel?

Any one got any tips on Land Rovers or anything I should look out for before Start to harrass poor car salesman?

It will not be a new one by the way looking around £4 - £5000 for one

Cheers

I wouldn't touch an import with a bargepole.

I used to live next door but one to a garage that just sold imports and knew of many problems, not least when they were raided by Police and Customs as all the cars were suspected as either stolen or being sold as newer cars than they actually were (Jap models are updated way before the UK equivalents).

Despite what people say, insurance is generally more expensive and many companies wont offer cover as some parts differ to UK spec vehicles. Service history is non existant.....hence the term 'grey import'....something that on it's own would make me run in the opposite direction.

.......Wait for the replies from people with imports that are ok!!!.......

Hi backroomers,

Contemplating changing cars soon, a nearly-new C5 or Skoda Superb are near the top of the shopping list, both big comfy diesels that depreciate like hell in their 1st year or 2. However both come with very average stereos as standard unless (in the case of the C5 as far as I can tell) you are lucky enough to find one with higher spec factory unit. So I was wondering how difficult it would be to discreetly upgrade a standard system - I'd want to retain the same head unit for obvious reasons, still want the remote controls and display to work - but perhaps get an amplifier and/or better speakers fitted. Anbody any good/bad experiences of doing this to their car (whatever make)? I think C5s have got multiplex wiring or something like that, I was wondering if that would make any kind of upgrade a no-no. The alternative that crossed my mind was whether, if I were to find a C5 in the Citroen dealer network, the dealer would be able to fit the "premium" head unit for a price. Read more

I had a Rover 420 GSi from 1994 to 1997; happy memories of a reliable car that was fun to punt along, but which had a decidely dodgy standard fit Philips head unit. On advice from my ICE dealer, the problem was solved by Alpine amp and (Cobra?) speakers that I fitted with ease, the former out of sight under the dash and the latter under the original covers; nothing to tempt thieves or overtly advertise I'd hacked a company lease car I wasn't allowed to (yes, the bits came out just before Lex came calling and then gave service in the Vectra SRi V6 Estate that followed!).

In short I was staggered how just over £100 on 2x20 amp and some half decent speakers (I only touched the pathetic rear speaker circuits) could completely transform a humdrum system, even though the cheapo head unit, front speakers, and front speaker level of amplification, was still in place.

I love my Seat Alhambra. Its an 04 and it might be time to have another one. But, has anyone heard when it will cease production? I know the S Max looks good and I wouldn't have two seats in the house, but have you seen the luggage cover position? Thieves look here please! The Alhambra is still the best for me. But would the purchase of a dying model be a sound move?
Anyone any info.? Not Seat dealers anyway. Read more

The Ford/VW alliance is no more in MPVs.

Apparently the New Fords (S-Max/Glaxy) are Ford only and the new and different VW & SEAT
replacements are 18mths/ 2 yrs away.

If you like the old Galaxy/Sharan/Alhambra then the Ford garages will be clearing old models and might prove a good bragaining tool for better discounts at the SEAT Dealer - if it is a SEAT you really want.
