I think mini bikes are an aid to natural selection and improve the breed, at least judging by the riders.
Either ban them or crush illegallly driven ones. Half way house will not work.

Why the over-the-top idea of crushing? Unless it's a write-off, why not sell them (this can apply to all insurance / tax dodgers) and use the cash to offset the road tax for the rest of us. Surely crushing is just a waste of money? Even if you think these mini-motos shouldn't exist, the fact is that they simply shouldn't be ridden on public road / land.

Boycott shoddy build and reliability.

The confiscate and crush rule should also be applied in extreme cases of cars that are being used illegally.
For more valuable or historic vehicles, where destruction would be inappropriate, courts should have the power to ban an owner from using a particular vehicle.
e.g. - if Sir Tarquin Moneybags-Classic is caught doing 150mph in his genuine 1957 D-Type Jaguar on the M3, as well as the usual penalties he could be permanently banned from driving said D-Type on the public highways.

Re: driving bans for mini moto users.
For riders who are too young to drive, perhaps they could receive a postponed ban that begins on their 17th birthday. Having to wait an extra 6 months or more before learning to drive could be a deterrent.

You are of course assuming that a ban is enough to stop these pondlives driving.........

I'd love a go on one...

There is no point banning those who ignore the law, as they are already doing banned things without any shame. The problem is enforcement. They only seem to crush a few for the cameras but 95% of the chavs are unaffected by the Police who only seem to exist on headed paper these days.

A viral marketing campaign about how mini bike readers are useless under a duvet, smell and have other embarrassing problems would lead to their disappearance far faster than threatening to crush them from a non existent police force. Ditto uncool people such as politicians trying to get down wiv da chavs by riding one would again remove most of the interest in riding them. It does show a certain degree of intolerance amongst people in some ways. Most mini bike riders seem to have a daft smile on their face and maybe the idea that someone from a lower social class is having a good time is what observers of these individuals find offensive :-) Darwinism works wonders. Mini bike + bus/lorry = no more problem with rider.

Sorry teabelly, going to disagree with you on that. The reason I don't like them is not because of who rides them but where. We have them coming up and down the pathway in front of our house (no road as is next to river and park) which my children play on with neighbours kids.
Come to think of it, next doors 4 year old plays on a little electric trike- does about 2 mph- does that count?

Shouldn't think so, but it helps explain why kids are little plumpies. My generation's trikes had pedals ;< )

you were lucky our trikes had had the pedal hacked off to help the war effort :>o

Think bike is too slow, as normally gets put on one side and they just run round or get back pedal bikes to keep up.
Just a pity have to watch out for morons on mini motos, although since all the news reports about these started with the threats of crushing, I've not seen them come past the house.

We have problems here in the countryside of Wiltshire with mini motos and offroad bikes, mainly being ridden along footpaths, bridleways and public roads. Had several "incidents" , one resulted in threat of legal action against a walker on a footpath who remonstrated with one of the riders!
Had no problems here until the village policeman was removed about 7 years ago due to cost cutting.
Lack of police action is the main problem, which is caused by lack of funds, or so we are told.
We have even had 4x4's on the footpaths!

Ah, these must have been the pedals used on early Spitfires. The later, more successful mks had Merlins ;<)
