After a hard days graft yesterday here in Sudan i went back to my room and watched BBC world which has adverts
They had advert for a car called a indigo marina looks like a small mpv i looked on the web its made by TATA (did they do the city rover?)
If they have any plans to intoduce it to the UK i suggest they change the model name! Read more
could anyone offer advice on replacement engines. I had a look at Vege and was impressed but this was the only place I know to look for engines. Read more

They have a list of members by region, they are to engines what corgi is to gas.
A work colleague has a 1991 MR 2 2litre GT (import). The car can be driven when bump started no problem. When turning the ignition key there is just a wirring sound . The starter motor turns over on a bench (not under load). He has said that the ring gear can be moved with finger tip pressure so I would like to know if this is a straight forward job with any possible short cuts . I have fitted starter ring gears on flywheels years ago and I am guessing it is still the same procedure? any advice with removing the gearbox or engine would be very much appreciated. Read more
No. If there was then the flywheel doing 6000rmp would mean the planet gear being exactly that 'A Planet' doing 50,000 RPM. Regards Peter
Just thought i'd post a few pictures of a little incident i had this weekend at 80mph on the outside lane of the M5.

I have no idea of what hit it but whatever it was must of been pretty big and very hard.
Thank god for laminated safety glass. Read more
A recent court case here in New Zealand is of interest:
quote
NZ Herald July 6th
A youth who dropped an 8kg lump of concrete off an Auckland motorway bridge, killing a car driver, has been found not guilty of murder but guilty of manslaughter. The 15-year-old was charged after the concrete smashed through a car windscreen and killed a motorist last August. A jury at the Auckland High Court took four hours to reach its verdict this afternoon at the end of a four-day trial.

Then please allow me a few lines to say what an awesome car the Toledo is. I can see myself keeping it for a good few years to come.
Comfy, long legged mile muncher, with all the toys you could want, for the same price as my 306 cost me.
No common rail, yet still manages 110hp and 50mpg thanks to an intercooler and variable vane turbo.
The engine bay is covered in Audi logos, and the dashboard is straight clone of an Audi one too.
Very impressed with it.
That's all. You will now be returned to your usual programming. Read more
IS the 300C Rear Wheel Dirve ?
Indeed it is - which helps make for a smooooootth ride and comfortable handling.
It's not a racing car by any means, but given that i have no intention of driving on a beach or pasting it around a racetrack - I frankly couldn't care less !!
But for effortless highspeed long distance motoring, its the dogs...........

We all know that modern vehicles can well exceed the 100k car mark before any problems.
But if you were buying a 4-5 year old vehicle then whats the max mileage you would accept?
There are plenty of vehicles out there with 120-160k on the clock, which can be bought cheaply enough. But is an older car with lower mileage the best way to go? Read more
On the other hand everyone seems to have a fixation with engine life.
My experience has been that nearly all my expenditure on repairs has been on items other the engine electrical, suspension, brakes, clutch etc.
I am about to buy a car to teach my 17 year old daughter to drive in. Her mum has happy memories of learning in a Toyota Starlet 20 years ago. Our neighbour is selling her immaculate 1999 5 door 1300 with 79,000 miles for £1500. We've had a drive and whilst I wouldn't rate it against more modern stuff, its quiet and likely to be reliable. Is there anything I should be looking for (it has FSH)? Is it too dear? Thanks. Read more
So far its fine. Nice easy clutch and quite smooth to drive. I also notice that people let you out at junctions! Not very nippy and to be honest our old Fiesta would run rings around it handling wise but it seems well built and in silver it looks quite smart. The dealer still has the Toyota and has just put a set of garish alloys onto it. Boyracerville?
Surely these balcked out windows are illegal - on the back OK but the sides and windscreen must fail as they are almost 100% balcked out Read more
Thus Derek is excused the requirement to have his windows of
specified safety glass under Con and Use and therefore I
presume the question of tinting, hence "Lookatmelookatme"'s driver doesn't get done.
Who's derek - or has this fairly obviously gone completely over my head?
I gave a driver (gender unseen) a nervous breakdown on Friday last. As I approached a three junction traffic roundabout I saw a very hesitant young learner trapped there. The traffic was building up behind him quite badly. So, I did my boy-scout thing and hesitated myself, blocking both of the other streams until his instructor got him moving. Time spent about 15 sec., much the same as missing a gear. As I?m sure Albert Einstein must have said, ?Time is a relative thing?. The driver of another car which had come up behind me, (I was way in front of my stream so he must have been travelling), played the Trumpet Voluntary. The learner got out, the traffic stream behind him moved up one, and possibly the guy / lady following me reached for their handbag to get out a Valium pill.
I?m not sure who was bad mannered, me for hesitating or he / she for tooting so vigorously.

Thank you Pugugly, I didn't think of that !!
Hi all,
For future requirments im now looking for a Ford Focus as friends & relatives as well as HJ himself recommends.
Im looking at the Mk1 version my budget is between £4-5k, preferably a 3-door hatchback.
The thing that bugs me which engine size to have, im edging for the 1.6 zetec engine as for economy & lower tax. Can anyone tell me of their experiences with Focus' & their engines, which is the best one to go for?
Cheers.

To update my preferences: i'll be doing about 7-8k miles a year which is i didn't mention diesel, but i will be doing the occasional long trip up & down the country, so a 1.4 was out of mind as i didn't think it'll be up to the motorway when needed, as i've read the 1.6 sounds good enough to me! ;-)

They'd be well advised not to call it a TATA either!
