Does anyone know if the inlet manifold is the same on a carbed engine as on a single point injection? They are both 1.4 energy engines. Also would one from a different size of the energy engine fit? Read more

Three months ago I paid a 10% deposit for the new Volvo C70... They still can't give me a delivery date, or even a build date! The UK importer has absolutely NO IDEA when the car might turn up, other than hopefully sometime in October/November.

Anyone seen any of these cars on the road?! I reckon that they have a production problem.

- But they are sitting on over 2 grand of my money, without any explanation or apology! Isn't this deception, or fraud? I feel like they're making a fool of me at the very least.

Anyone else been in a similar situation with another manufacturer? Suggestions on how I should proceed?

I'm not expecting the car until October, and I don't actually mind waiting for it, but I'm rapidly losing loyalty and goodwill towards a manufacturer who can bank my money for 3 months but still be unable to confirm a build date or delivery date... Reckon they're taking the ***********

Hi

Just a quick question: how does the handbrake work on the new Focus with rear disks? Is it hydraulic, as I can't find a handbrake cable, though I didn't think it could be?

Thanks

All handbrakes are mechanical as Hydualic handbrakes are not complaint due to there very nature. They can leak and fail. My old rally car ( Malcolm Wilsons ex works Escort had a hydualic hand brake for ease of use in corners but come MOT time I had to refit a cable brake system for it to pass. There was some talk about using hyraulically appied handbrake by mechanically latched for safety, but I do not know if it is in use yet. Regards Peter

Hi folks, While most of the UK was watching the Game today I was sitting haggling
to buy a Skoda 1.9 TDI elegence. Needless to say I am now the owner of this nearly
new vehicle, on the test drive I couldnt figure out how to work the vehicles mpg computer.
Anyway the question now is what technical mods would be worth while if any, for fuel/drive
performance, and has anybody had any known problems with theirs.

P.S. While we were in the showroom we looked inside an 18grand Golf and what do you
know the same dash as the octavia......... Badges..... Badges.... We don't need no stinkin badges.....

I know my legal and moral responsability's thanks, had modified policys for 10 years :-)

For what its worth i could fit a set of brake parts manufactured in some 3rd world country made of saw dust and sludge with the stopping capability of a Raleigh Chopper, purchased from a car boot sale with no comebacks from the seller and I would'nt have to inform the insurance company :-( Go figure!

car is a 1989 16v golf k jet

wierd one this...i had a leaky brake pipe fitting, so i was sat in the car with it idleing and repeatedly pressing the brake pedal to see if i could make it leak again

anyway as i pressed the pedal on/off a few times the engine began to splutter and carried on doing so until i stopped pressing the pedal...i let the engine clear and then braked again same thing happened

cant really figure out whats happening there...some kind of vacumn problem? otherwise the car runs and brakes fine Read more

I have an 05-reg Touran 1.9D and twice the power steering light has come on on the dash. First time the local dealer replaced the 'torque sensor' (whatever one of those is). The second time the light came on, it was the usual 'computer says no', i.e. no reported fault so no action taken (except to extinguish the light).

Third time round the steering packed up altogether. Vehicle was towed away. When the dealer had had a chance to examine the vehicle I was told that a new rack would be fitted. They placed one on order, but did mention that they had quite a few on back order which indicates to me that this is not an uncommon occurence. Anyone else heard of this problem?

Does this effect Skoda and Audi ?

Question A4 TDi 130PD
Big Vern

Hi

The auld petrol Vectra is becomming tired and I am seriously considering replacing it with an A4 TDi 130.

I have always prefered oil burners, but have never owned any of these new fangled PD engined cars. I usually buy at 2-3 years old and keep for another 5 years moving on when I get a good 160k on the clock.

How realistic is this to do on the new generation of PD engines compared to the older style I am used to? Am I going to be hit with higher bills due to the need to replace injectors etc on a more regular basis / or just much more expensive per set than I am used to ? Can they cover the distance of the old sterotypical engine?

Thanks

Amy - beware the complexities of VAG diesel oils...
XFE-PD is for the fixed interval servicing regime (£26.36 + vat
for 5 litres on Millers website).
The Millers oil for PD's on the variable interval servicing appears
to be XF- Long life (£42.55+ vat for 5litres)

Well I am now armed with the aforementioned A4 TDI 130, and the Vectra was disposed of to a local guy who really did not seem to appricate the extensive service history... but hey his cash is as good as anybody elses I suppose.

Anyways, the A4 has been on variable servicing up until now. As I have no intention of darkening Audi's doors for servicing, is there any danger in switching to fixed interval servicing at 5k miles just using the XFE-PD style oil? I assume that I can just re-set the service indicator as per the handbook... Is there anything else I should be aware of?

Thanks

I'm looking to get a BMW 528 SE but the cars in the price range I want to pay are all above 100K miles.
I know I'm a tight git and don't really want to pay more than 4grand for it, but I reckon I could pick up a bargin,
as all I ever hear is how these BMW are just worn in at 100K and that they could do another 100K if the service history is kept up.
All I want to know is, if anyone has experiance with high miler BMW's, then whats there opinion on this and could they give me any advice.

Cheers

I am planning to sell my BMW, 5-series, yr 2000, W reg, 89000 miles, petrol, manual, FSH as a private sale. I have looked at various valuation websites and the valuations cover a very wide range. Any idea which tends to be the most accurate? I guess at the end of the day it is how much a buyer is willing to pay, but they will be looking at the same price guides as me. Here is what I found, in each case I am quoting the private sale price:

Glass's consumer valuation: £5800
Whatcar: £3445
Parker's (not mileage adjusted) : £5245
Wisebuyers: £3686
