Hi all-bit of advice please,
just coming up to 78k in my 51 plate astra, cambelt last done at 40k so I know it needs doing at the end of the month when the service is due . I know it will need a kit rather than just the belt itself- is there anything else that is prudent to change while the belt is off? Read more

Dynamic Dave

Would you recommend the water pump gets done at the first ( 40K cambelt change ? I have a 1.6 Zafira on 37k which I assume is the same engine.

How long is a piece of string? A waterpump *could* fail at any time. It *should* however last 80k without any problems. It could even last 120k and onwards.

I look at it this way though, a cambelt kit costs around £100, plus there's the labour charge to fit it. If the pump fails 10k after the belt has been changed, you've got that labour charge all over again for the sake of a failed £30 pump.

Get whoever is doing your belt to give the pump a good inspection to see that there's no sign of leaks and that it spins freely with no signs of play or tightness. That's not to say it won't fail anyway, but it should give some indication as to it's condition.

Vectra 2.0 16v 1997 Ecotec. This car has had a small missfire all the time I'v owned it I'v changed loads of parts, and cleaned where I'v been told to clean! My son unpluged the air flow meter and the man. light came on.(made the car run worse) Plugged it back in,light went out.Car back to 'normal'Next day light came on again-I flashed the codes and got Air flow meter malfunction and O2 sensor circuit malfunction-Would the O2 sensor be linked to the unplugging? Or is it the fault? This is the first time the Man.light has ever come on!Ever since I have owned the car the plugs have been covered in soot every time I check them! The missfire is between 1.0 and 1.5 revs, worse on the overrun-Changed coil, idle control valve, cam and crank sensor, plugs and leads and air filter.Somebody help me please, starting to pull my hair out here! Can anyone help??
I'm looking for a 100BHP SWB Trafic/Vivaro/Primastar(preferably new or very low mileage) as a replacement Border Collie carrier-I'm finally at my wits end with my LDV(gutless)Cub.
Now the downside is I don't have a business and I'm not VAT registered. This makes car salesman look at you funny when you tell them you want to buy a commercial vehicle.

Does anyone know what the best/cheapest way for me to purchase this van???

I was told that I could buy it through a friend's business and so avoid paying VAT(as they can claim it back), as long as it's registered with my friends business for one day.
Does anyone know if this is true???

Look forward to any replies. Read more

Do you think the Sportive is worth the extra £1000+???

Also, has anyone any experience of how a " Superchipped" Trafic/Vivaro/Primastar performs???

From Autoexpress:

"Don't bother polishing your car - it wastes fuel! Scientists have discovered that rough surfaces can be more aerodynamic than shiny ones by helping vehicles slip through the air more efficiently. If the bumps are the size and shape of tiny cylinders, they keep the air flowing around the car. "This goes against conventional thinking," said Swedish researcher Jens Fransson."

Not 1st April!

People use to (and I believe still do) wet and dry the hulls of racing sailing dinghy's, reason being is that the water droplets fill the rough surface and the others just slip past, where as they stick to a smooth surface so causing a rough finish - never quite sure if it really made that much difference but it made a good looking boat look like carp!!! I assume this is the same type of principle.

Ford Mondeo, 2000, TDCI 130, Year 2002

Came into work this morning with my glow plug light flashing and a loss of power like the turbo was not working.

I have read some backroom reports to say that this could be the fuel pump and injectors but the postings are back in 2003. Has anyone had any recent dealings with this? My car has done 76k which I have had from new.

Here's hoping for some help! Read more

To conclude the thread, Screwloose was correct!

Ford Main dealer reprogrammed the PCM and ICU then re-installed the Injector/Calibration Valves.

It took them about 1.5 hrs and the cost was £119.

Car now running OK, no explanation from Ford as to why!

Hi,

I have been looking at one today quickly at the dealers and was really impressed with what I saw. Its a lot bigger both inside and out, and I was thinking about a 1.5 Diesel (Approx £12k) or 1.4 petrol SE model for approx £11k.

Has anyone got comments on the Note, and would it be £12k of your money? How quickly do you expect before prices are discounted?

I was looking at replacing my Peugeot 206 Sw 1.4 and have a budget of £11k and have been looking at Mazda 1.6, Focus, or Astra.

I have uploaded a camera photo pic

Hi,

I cannot sit in the Jazz due to the stupid shelves next to the pedals along side the steering column. Long Legs and big feet, and maybe a salesman that didnot know the Jazz meant I couldnot get in.

Was looking at a new Jazz last year, but opted for a nearly new 206 instead.

I am going to hang on until April or May and hopefully will get a decent discount by then. Otherwise will look at something else.

Barry

Mr Hula

Does anyone know if there is much of a difference between the various paint sealers? A-Glaze, SuperGuard, Diamond Sheild etc?

Price wise A-Glaze and SuperGuard seem around the same price if done at a dealer, around £300 for inside and out. Diamond seems a bit cheaper. Do they work? Certainly A-Glaze comes with a 3-year guarantee and in theory at least you don't need to polish for 3 years or so. I would pay £3K for that alone. Read more

A tale of two diesels..For the same money: a new citroen C4 2.0Hdi, or a six month old, 7K miles on the clock, Nissan Primera 2.2Td. Wanted for upcoming spate of long motorway journeys, specific requirements comfort, reasonable frugality, few toys, bit of fun. Which??
PS Does the very soft accelerator on the C4 get tiring after a while? On the test drive I felt I had to keep my foot slightly elevated to avoid surging ahead - it offered no support.Dealer said no-one else has ever complained - do you get used to it or have I got odd legs?! Read more

Hi DD,

Great moderating. And extremely quick, might I add. I should have known better, shouldn't I?

Thanks for changing it.
