hello everyone,I have been reading this forum for some time now and am constantly amazes at the knowledge displayed.Slightly off a motoring topic but does anyone know why my sat nav has lost its gps connection. \the handbook is useless and I just cannot find any reference anywhere as to what to look for.I think I must have deleted a file by mistake but just cannot find the problem after much fiddling and head scratching. The software is Tomtom. Any advice would be appreciated. The screen just states "waiting for a gps connection" after punching in a destination. Read more
I have got £4,000 approximately to spend on a Toyota Yaris.
Researching HJ?s car by car breakdown and previous posts I believe I want a 2003 T3 or T spirit 1.3
I am not sure about 3 or 5 doors.
Versos seem extremely rare. Are they worth pursuing?
Which model is easier to sell? I would hate to end up a difficult to sell variant
Are auctions the best place to look?
Best wishes
John

Thanks for the offer. I remember meeting you at the Ace
cafe backroom meet, a while back
Hello again.
May the Gods be with you on your search.
The New Yaris accessories brochure circa April 03
has a center spread of a Yaris and a couple of bikes n bikers in front of the Ace Cafe.
Spooky?
As the Barchetta is up for a spring clean shortly I was thinking about what products to use.
According to HJ´s recommendations I have Autoglym Super Resin and Extra Gloss protection that I plan to use, as soon as it warms up enough for the EGP to cure properly.
Other posts have mentioned this Clay stuff, which is something I´ve not come across. Is it worth getting it? Will it make a big difference?
I´ve got a cheap machine polisher, which may make a difference.
Any buffing advice gratefully received!
Thanks in advance,

Disregard this question, as the forum search brought up the required info. Sorry Mods.
I have 3 good friends all mechanics. 1 runs his own very well respected repair garage, 1 works on his own as a mech, the other a foreman in a ford main dealer
2 trained together, but all have worked together get them in a pub and get them talking about incedents that go on behind the reception desk
My favorite. One of them his first week at work at a big BL dealer in the late 60's
The managing directors car a S type Jag was on the ramp looking for a exhaust leak. The mechanic sent my mate the trainee to rev the engine up, so he could see any leak, the car happened to be in drive, it shot off the ramp and landed on a work bench with the sump inbeded on a vice!
Plenty more where that came from! Read more
Many years ago I had the use of a commercial pit. As needs must I had to drive the Triumph Herald the full length of the pit (about 10 m ) and then jacked up the rear end of the car. Big mistake. Much hard wrok to move the railway sleepers that covered the pit (Normally never used) to allow me to 'get out of the hole'.
There is a report in today`s Autocar, that one of China`s leading manufacturers Chery is planning to launch a range of quality vehicles, priced at 30% below their Western equivalents, into the European market from 2008.
If the price was`nt enough concern for European manufacturers, they are also promising 100,000 mile / 10 year warranties.
If this truly is the case, much of the motor industry in Europe could follow the demise of the motor cycle industry into total oblivion.!!!!! Read more

Why on earth do you think that?
I said it because a lot of British people are only too ready to slag off the British working man and woman and British companies, and sometimes even Britain as a whole, whilst at the same time considering themselves to be in a superior class and not part of this system. I accept that this does not apply to you and I apologise unreservedly. However, the fact of the matter is that one reason that Chinese industry is on the up at the moment is that Chinese workers accept lower wages and a lower standard of living. They know their place and most British people don't. It may not remain like that forever in China, in fact I'm sure it won't. But at the moment that is the situation. Most of the problems at the moment in this country, both social and economic, are due to people not knowing their place.

Under my sunvisor a flap lifts up revealing a mirror and at the same time switching on a lamp to illuminate it. The flap has warped so that it fails to switch off the lamp when it's closed. I think the fact that the lamp remains on may have made matters worse, as the lamp lies against the flap when the visor is up and the flap gets warm. My local Skoda dealer tells me that VW can only supply a new sunvisor for £45.50 plus fitting rather than a new flap. As far as I can see it's a small plastic fitting, so can this be true?

Thanks charlesb & Ishok Leyland. Skoda told me they have a similar fitting in a Superb, but it's different from the one on EBay which slides, rather than being a flap. I seem to have cured the problem with a hairdryer. Heated the flap, bent it back into shape while it cooled, and it seems to be OK now.
Is there still a requirement for headlights to be at least a certain height from the ground?
As I recall the large degree of camber of the front wheels of early Hillman Imps was the result of a quick fix to raise the headlights to the required minimum. On later models I think the vertical position of the pivots of the front suspension arms was altered to take out the camber without lowering the headlights.

Wasn't the MG raised for the American market as the headlights
were also too low? Blocks under the suspension to increase height
by 1½", IIRC.
DD,
I think it was the US safety regs that caused this...the bumber height of the original chrome bumper MGB was too low and hard, hence the revised (higher) rubber bumper model....with wrecked handling and much poorer looks.

where do you locate the VIN number on a 2005 renault clio??

Not sure about the Clio but on a lot of Renaults
including mine it's on the passenger side windscreen, at the bottom.
Tick - yup should be there

Through work I've become aware that the EU and Ertice (www.ertico.com) are pushing for crash notification monitoring devices in every new vehicle by 2009.
Who will be receiving the info and what will they do with it? Read more
No, that would be too simple, these are EU bureaucrats.
There is also a firmware upgrade which might be useful to you. Prior to installing this my Navman PiN (Mio 168 clone)used to take some time to pick up a max of 4-5 satellites, after installation it gets 9 or 10 regularly, sometimes even 12 and will get 5 even inside my house.
