Under my sunvisor a flap lifts up revealing a mirror and at the same time switching on a lamp to illuminate it. The flap has warped so that it fails to switch off the lamp when it's closed. I think the fact that the lamp remains on may have made matters worse, as the lamp lies against the flap when the visor is up and the flap gets warm. My local Skoda dealer tells me that VW can only supply a new sunvisor for £45.50 plus fitting rather than a new flap. As far as I can see it's a small plastic fitting, so can this be true?

Disconnect it - pointless accessory
or go to a scrappy.

Useful, not pointless. Pointless reply though..........

I would keep an eye on Ebay for one for either a Golf or Bora.
There is one for an older golf here:
cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-POLO-GOLF-CABRIOLET-DRIVERS-SUN-...m
It if doesn't include the lamp, then you could canabalize it to get the flap and replace your existing one.
Or, you could look at German Swedish and French or another part finder. In the meantime, disconnect it, as it will drain your battery.

Can you get the same item from a Skoda dealer?
Other people on this forum have reported that they can pay up to three times as much for the same part with VW branding.

Thanks charlesb & Ishok Leyland. Skoda told me they have a similar fitting in a Superb, but it's different from the one on EBay which slides, rather than being a flap. I seem to have cured the problem with a hairdryer. Heated the flap, bent it back into shape while it cooled, and it seems to be OK now.
