Hello guys,
i'm looking for a Peugeot WORKSHOP FACTORY MANUAL . Any usefull info will be great! thanks Read more
Hi , I have a 96 rover 400 2.0 td and it refuses to start. It turns over no problem but will not fire. If i push it it will start easily but will not start from the key. It started to play up about a 2 months ago being hard to start so i changed the heater plugs and the fuel filter, it then went great for about a month then started to get hard to start again and now it just wont start. I also changed the hand primer that sits tank side of the fuel filter as i was told it may be a faulty valve but that made no difference. I was told that the engine may be done - is this the most likely reason or is it possible that the pump timing may have slipped as i am able to shake the belt when the cover is off?
any help wud be much appreciated as it is really starting to bug me now

you need to check the ignition switch is still providing the amin 12 v feed when the key is turned to starter mode. If you bump start the car then run it for 2 mins then start it on the key does it go ?? If it does then you need to get the starter cranking speed and the cold compression checked. Regards Peter
And I don't mean, why does my car only get 25mpg, if the figures say 42mpg.
The mpg figures are calculated from the emmissions tests. These are done in a laboratory (i.e. inside a building I assume) and therefore, any aerodynamic aids to economy that the vehicle may have will be useless, as the car is on a rolling road in still air.
So if you have two cars with the same engine and transmission and the same weight, but one is like a Ferrari and one like a london bus, in the real world, the economy will be different, but in the test they will be the same.
Am I right?

Hi
I have a 00 (X) reg mondeo estate. For no reason that I can tell, the alarm keeps going off on its own! When I unlock the car with the remote it goes crazy with the lndicators flashing madly and the horn beeping really fast (luckily not too loud or i'd be really popular with the neighbours!). it doesn't seem to do it when i use the key and only lock it (no flashing lights from indicators). Any ideas on whats wrong and what I can do to stop this? thanks. It does not have grilles on the pillars , but it does have 2 sensors on the front screen area . the key fob has 3 positions unlock, lock, double lock & tailgate open. Car starts and runs but alarm & flashers keep going !!!!!
for the last 2 days!!!!
Many thanks
Jon

Hi Adam
many thanks for your reply content duly noted, not sure about aftermarket sensors as new car to me.

Wifes car (R plate 1.9tdi) was shunted from rear pre christmas. Minor damage to bumper but split mounting plate for parking sensors (and damaged offside one of 4). System them inoperable: on selecting reverse would produce continuos beep for 3 seconds and then switch off (short?) or not operate at all. At repairers now, and they seem to be having some trouble making the system work again. Talking of taking it to main dealers to "reset system". Anyone any prior experience or knowledge?

Thanks for your answer. They obviously managed to sort it, which helped me get into a tricky parking space in town this p.m.!

Here we go again!
One keeps on clicking on the 'X' and the blasted thing keeps reappearing.
So I've noticed that it is Nissan, but surely the marketing idea was not to associate Nissan with irritating!!!! Read more
DD has already drawn this to HJs attention. Hopefully to be fixed soon.

The amount of hatched areas on the road seems to be growing at an extraordinary rate?
I'm noticing this especially on faster, broader a roads where you used to be able to overtake with the complicity of oncoming traffic, now these roads are being tatooed along the middle with a 6 ft wide hatch instead of a single white line...
What with this and the sneaking erradication of the national speed limit on A Roads, replaced instead with a blanket 40mph limit.... we're all doomed. Might as well get that Toyota on order now. Read more
Or even eradication!
There are some roads where the suicide lane was taken too literally, the old A5 north of Markyate for example.
Yes, I had noticed more road markings in general but I have to say if I thought it was safe to overtake before, then cross-hatching wouldn't stop me now.
I'm all for adding a little clarity so as to eliminate confusion and it's possible consequences but sometimes this isn't achieved.

At around 8:15 Wednesday long queue of traffic waiting to exit, about 1/4 mile of queue on the hard shoulder.
Presume this is illegal but probably like that every morning.
It does help the flow on the M40 but what would happen if there was a breakdown in the queue! Read more

So I come along the nearside lane of the carriageway wanting to exit and note all the others wishing to do the same and extending the queue by using the hardshoulder. Wow, I obey, and sit on the carriageway itself, sometimes stationary, sometime creeping to await the arrival of the exit lane and a chance for someone to let me in. Behind are a stream of bludddy great artics bearing down on me at 60 plus. How do I prevent the inevitable accident? Getting onto the hardshoulder in the queue?
A Traffic plod of my era under such circumstances described would not issue tickets willy nilly but address the real problem and have the matter discussed with Traffic Management/HA to either extend the exit lane or have signing to use hardshoulder.
Unfortunately pressure now on Plod not to use common sense but get those fiqures up to prove value for money. There is no league table for common sense approaches.

Wa on the M42 Wednesday at 0800 and the signs were saying "Congestion" but the hard shoulder was not available for use and no one was stopped on it.
They admit there is congestion and they don't allow the extra lane to be used so why spend the money setting it up? Read more
That's where we were - A45-M40.
I have just been pulled speeding - first time ever in 15 years and 20000 miles per year. On getting my documents out of the car I have just noticed that the MOT expired in 15th December. I bought the car on the 30th Jan last year and assumed it had a 12 month MOT - Very very wrong assupmtion as it turns out.
Can somebody please tell me what I should do.
Should I go to the police station and come clean. Obviously they will have heard all the excuses in the book. Read more

If she left off the details of the commencement date etc there is the real possibility that she was being kind to you, or didn't want theextra paperwork for what seemed like a genuine mistake on your part. Had you said something, I suspect you could have put the lady in a difficult position.
You should not overlook this detail, and IMO nor should the rest of us.
I'll never forget receiving a visit from a PC whilst in halls at polytechnic, a few weeks after a minor collision.
He asked to see my insurance. He had already seen the tax disk at the time. He said when parting "I'll say I've seen the MOT".
I actually had a certificate that had expired after the RTA, so I would have been covered. However the condition of the car I suspect caused him to make that comment.

Something like this, perhaps?
