On Radio Lacal today, anyone being awarded points for exceeding the 30, on the Luton ring road, near the Toyota dealership, can possibly have them removed.

It appears, the street lighting spacing & oblgatory repeater signage isn't in existence - never has been.

There are tall high density lamp stanards, which aren't ACTUALLY on the carriageway, but on surround land, so this is what has caused the anomily.

Now all we need is Pugugly & DWD, to explain why & what the procedure is to get your licience cleaned!!

"149.9mph in a Porsche"

I promise not to discuss this particular case (even though I live in the Isle of Wight, where you're lucky to be able to do much more than 40), but it highlights the general notion that speed is dangerous, per se.

I am old enough (just) to remember when unrestricted roads in the UK were just that, and if you had a fast car, you were expected to act responsibly, but driving fast was not in itself an offence. The 70 limit was in fact nothing to do with safety - it was an economy measure, introduced during the oil crisis, and (like income tax) intended to be temporary...

Does anyone have any knowledge of Car Depot supermarket in Hull. They currently have 55 reg 2006 model 2.5 Impreza STi's at £22,495 which seems a good deal. The ad says UK spec but are these likly to be imports? I know the obvious answer is to ask the company but I just wondered if anyone has had any dealings with them. If the experiences were bad then please feel free to email me off forum so as not to break the 'name and shame'policy.
Cheers

You're right, Martin, Motor Depot it is. I must be getting old, a senior moment. Maybe I should get a Volvo instead.

On M25 J20-21 yesterday was following behind an SUV which I could not work out what make it was. It was covered in something resembling a black baby-grow, so I thought that it was probably a new production model being tested. Anyway on going passed I noticed the little fins like on the side of the Range Rover Sport and similar front headlight cluster, which confirmed my suspicions that it was perhaps a new Freelander (not big enough for a Disco).

Anyway, I found it quite interesting - something to relieve the boredom on a Friday afternoon's M25 run!

I have a citroen Saxo 1.0 and it hesitate (stutter) once in a while. I was told to change the spark plugs and I did, but it is still acting the same way. My next action is the spark plugs leads or maybe the coil. Apparently my mechanic says this is common with the Saxo. Any suggestion from anyone?

OK, we've taken note that the advert is still causing problems for some of you.

Please be patient and it will be fixed whenever someone from the ad agency can get around to dealing with the problem.

In the meantime, try to avoid placing your mouse cursor anywhere near it, or if it does drop down, refresh the page by pressing function key F5 (if you're using Internet Explorer)

Thanks, DD.

Hi,

My Mitsubishi Carisma Diesel has gone in for a service this morning and the lovely young man has called to say that the rear brake pads need changing. Is it me or does this seem odd for a 2 year old car that's only done 25K? I would have expected the fronts to go before the rear? Any comments appreciated...

Should I mention that this is also a free service as part of the 3 year free servicing provided with the car. Read more

My intial thoughts were front wheel drive vehicle, the braking must
be biased to the front as they are the driving wheels?

As a general rule, the ratio of braking torque front-to rear is designed such that all four wheels lock (with ABS etc turned off) simultaneously. This ratio is governed by the downward force that exists on each axle under maximum braking conditions, and this in turn depends on the static weight on each axle together with the weight transference from rear to front caused by the deceleration. On average the ratio of braking torque front to rear is approximately 2 to 1 and is not dependent on whether the vehicle is front or rear wheel drive. The actual ratios will vary from vehicle to vehicle.

Morning All. Obviously not my week for cars. Whilst Golf is in garage I've been using my Dad's M plate volvo 850GLT 2.5 20v Only 40k miles on it & needed a good run anyhow, so check all fluids, tyres, bit of VAG fuel cleaner (thank you all) & then some optimax. When all warm put the box into sport & gone for the Italian Tune Up. Done about 200 miles on it. Sure ain't a T5, but pleasant enough.

Yesterday, after about 15 miles & over 50 mph the ABS light suddenly lit up. Hmmm. Check behind & apply brake progressively. Sure enough, lock up. Get to destination, park up & return some 15 mins later. This time no abs light. I haven't progressievly braked again, just in case I provoke the gremlin.

Now, do I need to worry?

No sign of any corrosion around ABS unit. Clean as a whistle in fact. Unit has 'Ate controller' written on it as well as '9401541 Volvo'. Made in the Phillipines.

Thank you all.

adverse camber

there is a known problem with the volvo abs controllers. There are a couple of solder joints that fail where the wires go into the controller, try a search on the various volvo sites for instructions to fix. (replacement is expensive)
