AIR COST ABOUT 8 pound in 1989 , just wash it out as suggested, change gearbox oil as well

I am about to replace the 2 x front tyres on my S60.

The Pirelli P6000's have been OK but I wonder if it is worth trying something different if people can recommend a quiet, safe alternative. Size is 205/55 R16 W rated.

Grip takes precedence over life as I would prefer to stay on the road better rather than replace the tyres at a later interval.

Any ideas? Read more

Sounds bad to me - £80 a corner is the price
I pay for mine and mine are 205/50/16 which is a
more expensive size. I would be looking to pay about £60
a corner for F1's in 205/55/16.

I dont think you'd get them £20 cheaper. I got Dunlop SP Sport 9000's on my car in 205/50/16 size for £78 each; my Dad had the same tyres fitted on his in 205/55/16 size, and they were £72 each from the same supplier.

This is a short section from a recent letter to my dealer

I own a Citroen C8 exclusive 2.2 petrol with all the extras bar leather and have had nothing but bother for the last 13 months

My car has been with the dealer for 150 while they attempt to rectify the growing list for faults and replaced parts.

These faults are common throughout the range but my car seens to be the test bummy that has all of them

PLEASE EMAIL ME BEFORE YOU BUY A C8 marathonbuild@blueyonder.co.uk

I will list all the faulty parts I am aware of that have been repaired, replaced or swapped with other cars on your forecourt.

RAC have attended road side twice, towed car once. Cars electrics have totally shut down at speed over 50 mph and approaching junctions twice more. Recently power steering shuts down at low revs this has happened four times over last two months. Due to current ice road conditions we have little confidence in the car for school runs on icy mornings.

in the 70s/80s doomed Rover.
How come Citroen are still going? Were the 70s/80s SD1s and
825s/827s worse?

Cars are more complex than they used to be. In reality people only brought Rovers because they were british, and out of some kind of national pride.

My experience with Citroen has been OK - not fantastic - I did have to visit a few times for warranty work plus the dealers are not great either, but to be honest thats why I sold up when the warranty ran out as I didnt have the confidence that it would last.

I would think that your best bet is to try to reject the car - likely outcome is dealer will offer you a new one if you pay something towards the use you have had.>> It seems to be a common view that lousy build quality

My Brava is mis-firing and the RAC bloke has isolated it to cylinder no.2 but another mechanic has told me that there is "a known fault" with the injector rails on Fiats. Has anyone come across this before?

It would be handy to know before tomorrow when I've got to take the car to the Fiat dealership for them to have a look.

Cheers Screwloose - that's great. I'll see what Fiat say tomorrow and, after laughing at their quote, phone my mechanic to see if he can get hold of the parts.

Hi guys,

I have a Peugeot 306 petrol saloon, 1999 on T plate.

The car does not want to tick over on idle. In gear & running, it's fine.

The AA said that the Engine Management Unit needs repair or replacing.

My Peugeot dealer has quoted me £886 to replace the EMU -

Please confirm if this seems about OK or are the boys in blue boiler suits taking financial advantage ?

A seroius enquiry, please can you help me ?

thanks

Screwloose I agree,

Main dealer will intergate ECU and report on fault for a reasonable fee.

You can then make a decision on who repairs what in the knowledge that diagnosis has been more than soemones best guess.

Had a similar problem with my daughters car see:

www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?v=e&t=30...5

This was resolved for far less than the main dealer price.

Good luck.

Hi All,

I am becoming the proud owner of an Audi 80 2.0E L reg this weekend. I am looking forward to keeping this car many years as the bodywork is immaculate and it drives well with 106,000 on clock. Just wundering any tips (espically mechanical) to keep this model of car in tip top shape as i believe it is a classic?

Thanks,

Tim. Read more

If both the temp and fuel guage not working, this is probably the voltage regulator at the back of the speedo binnacle, try a scrap yard for this and the badge.

Hi all,

I need a new car for a new job. I've read the review and really quite fancy a 99-02 Primera 2.0 Sport.

Unfortunately most of the examples on Autotrader seem to be overpriced or lacking service history....should I be looking elsewhere for one of these cars in the 2-3k range? Read more

If you have the code, you don't need a key to copy.Any key-cutting service can make a copy of an existing key but only a few can handle the electronics side.

looking for a little help with my e36 saloon. There is a knocking noise coming from under the bonnet and it happens with intervals between 5-10 seconds. Im not to clever with the more technical things with cars and your help is very appreciated. Also i think the baffle has gone in the silencer and was wondering if this is quite a large job and roughly the costs involved. Many thanks in advance. Read more

if youve got a knocking at idle.. depending on the mileage.. its going to be coming from the engine.. check the obvious.. is there any oil in it!... id then do a cylinder leakage test incase you have fried piston rings (causing a certain amount of piston "slap")... if you have compression/combustion issues it will be obvious at idle, you will feel it... it all that checks out fine, although rare on the engine, big end bearings can cause some intresting noise when they wear.
