My Golf has one offside rear foglamp, I am wondering if I can fit a bulb into the nearside bulb circuit. Has anyone done this ? Read more

Thanks for your input, a very valid observation. I will leave it as it is.

After reading the winter tyre thread, I looked on E-bay to see if any my size going. Question is does removing and refitting (possibly more than once) cause any problems to a tyre. Obviously buying new is best. Read more

My summer wheels/tyres are mounted on brackets on the wall of the garage. Each bracket cost ?3 IIRC. Off the floor, out of the way.
Plus the winter steel wheels and tyres cost ?50 for all four on eBay. Got lucky that day!

Yello...

I've run a P reg Deisel Escort Estate now for months and when I picked it up it always had problems with it's cold start... It just took loads of turning over before it eventually fired up in a cloud of smoke. In fact, it starts pouring smoke out before it fires. Just never had the time to look at it.

Now... (Predictably) with the cold weather it will not start at all... For the last week or so it's had to be push started (Yes I know it aint good for a deisel engine) and now it won't even have that... It's parked at the bottom of the street and I don't have the manpower to push it back. With only 2 days tax left I need to get it shifting...

Where should I start? I've checked all the obvious fuses etc... can't find any loose wires. The orange light does come on and go off with the ignition just as it should.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Peace. Read more

dieselhead

Just a thought...a squirt of Bradex 'Easy Start' or similar in the air cleaner should get it started so you can at least move the car and check glowplugs etc.

I couldn't believe my eyes this evening while driving home from work.
Passing me in the opposite direction was a 54 reg S Type Jaguar with blue illuminated washer jets! What inspires anyone to do this to a Jaguar?

Correct - unfortunately I read Herefordshire as Hertfordshire.
Sorry!

Yep, my 2001 35,000 milers' gearchange is a swine when its freezing cold. Gets much better when its all up to temp.

My dad just phoned, been in an accident in the ice. He was heading up a narrow lane in our horsebox this evening when a young lunatic with 3 passengers came down the hill at 40mph+ and couldn't stop.

Written off their car, caused serious damage to the horsebox (which was stationary at the time as my dad had been going slowly with the horse in), but no injuries fortunately though my dad and sister are a little shaken.

My brother is out there now with the Range Rover pulling the damaged car to the side, but suspect moving the box will be difficult as according to my sister the radiator is sticking out the front...

Apologies, I think I started that, with my visions of a horsebox fluttering its eyelashes saying 'darling, just don't go there'.

Got an old 1.3 1995 Fiesta, it's been absolutely bomb-proof for the past 3 years I've had it. The biting point of the clutch though is getting towards the end of the pedal. Quick question, is it just a simple case of adjusting it, or are we talking new clutch? If so, how much to do it? May just be better off scrapping it if it's gonna cost more than err.... £50. :o) Read more

Look underneath and check that there are teeth both sides of the pawl. As oldman says, I think you would feel the teeth slipping if the quadrant was worn out.
