Hi all
I have a 106 diesel 1.5 (Tud5 engine), it has just had a rebuild after a blown head gasket. The car is very reluctanct to start, takes about a minute on the starter motor. After it has started, it gives out plumes of blue smoke and has absolutely no power, any gradient will stop the car and it will not go over 30mph, all while
giving out clouds of smoke. I am told this is probably due to the timing being around one tooth out. I have the haynes manual but it might as well be in chinese. I understand I have to lock the engine in the correct timing positions, but am struggling to find a way to do this. Is there a timing hole on the crankshaft? The alternator belt flywheel is over the crank sprocket, so you cannot see the crank sprocket and I just do not understand the manual. Any help timing this engine would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance, Martin.

Hi guys,

i drive a peugeot 306 1999 which i bought in the summer time, since it's become winter (rain etc) whenever i drive the car longer than 10 minutes steam starts rising from below me and fogs up the whole windscreen (impossible to drive) and is like a sauna inside. I asked a mechanic and he stated that i need a new heater matrix fitted, can anyone help?

i really need to get this fixed because i can only drive short distances :(

thank-you!! Read more

I have the same problem with the heating matrix leaking into the Peugeot 306. This is my first car and I don't have the money to get it fixed so will have to try to fix it myself. I have no mechanic experience. what I really need are detailed notes and pictures to get me through the process of getting the whole job done. I will get the haynes manual but will need all the help I can get. thanks.

One for the legal bods ..

Accidentally went through a No Motor Vehicles sign last night - actually had exemption for taxis, buses and permit holders and possibly loading / unloading. Saw the 20mph sign but not the other until too late. No police around (that I saw) and was not stopped - only security cameras scattered around the town centre.

Would this be endorsable or FPN? Read more

Do you just have a big book called "THE LAW" on
your desk?

This has bothered me for some time now. Can you actually possess "the Law" like in a CD box set, or build up in 12 weekly parts from your newsagent ( freeluxury leather binder with edition 1 ) etc. ?

I am currently doing some research on some vans to help our fleet department decide on which vans to hire. Can anyone tell me of known faults/issues with the Vauxhall Vivaro and the Ford SWB Transit Van, as well as running costs and likely off-road time/maintenance? These are things that do not seem to be covered by sites like WhatVan etc

Many Thanks Read more

This sound like a problem I used to have with ZA. The problem was caused by spyware already on my machine before ZA, and was eventually cured by the use of Microsoft's excellent AntiSpyware. No probs with ZA since. Hope this helps.

Hello all. In a huge coincidence, I've just read the thread about outside air temp sensors on cars and gone out to my Corsa to find that mines gone haywire! I started it last night and it said it was 69 degrees centigrade, and started it this morning and all there is on the display is a line of dashes.
Someone at work has said it is a common fault and its only a 5 minute job to change the sensor so I've ordered a new one, but I want to know if it really is a five min job or am I best taking it to a garage?
(Its the newer model Corsa if that makes any difference)
Any help is appreciated.

If it's the same as vectra, it's a doddle. It'll be located somewhere on the front bumper -- more than likely just behind the numberplate. Unclip sencor from the bumper and disconect the plug & socket connection and replace with the new one.

Hi,

Got my new car on Saturday, however, while checking it over last night I've noticed that the car has been jacked up, presumably by the dealer, without attention to the designated jacking points. As a result the seam that runs along the side of the floor-pan, underneath the car has been damaged (bent). Needless to say, the paint and sealer has been knocked off, exposing the metal.
This was not a cheap car, and the manufacturer has a good name for reliability so I am aghast at the unprofessional behaviour of the garage.

What should I do ?

The handbook makes explicit reference to the jacking points and states that the vehicle will be damaged if the correct procedure is not observed. So basically, I've been sold a damaged vehicle. I also wonder about the implications for the anti-corrosion warranty.

Fridgemagnet

PS.
I assume that the car was jacked-up to fit the anti-theft wheel-nuts that were provided. I wish they'd left it to me!

Friend of mine had his brand new Civic Type R replaced by dealer/Honda when he noticed after about 2 weeks when he came to polish the car that it had had a bad repair done to the offside door and B pillar. The bad repair was really masking and paint refinishing but the supplying dealer managed to change it without any drama.

Just got a crack on the Pug 206SW, no chip, nothing, just heard a 'click' and there was the crack, originally about 6 inches, 50 miles later 8 inches, overnight (minus 2 degrees) had grown another inch or so.
Question being, I need to use the motor next week for at least a couple of days, this will be around 200 miles a day, mostly motorways, A roads, at speed, so should I be driving at a slower speed and hoping for the best, laying off the fast stuff and just toodling along, or just sod the work and get it into a windscreen replacement place ASAP? Suppose I am basicaly saying ,is the screen going to suddenly shatter at 70mph showering me with chips of laminated glass which will ruin my barnet?
Cheers All

laminated windscreens are made of glass a plastic laminate and glass all bonded together they are very tough but in an unknown equation something would go through them, the worst things i see are the imprints of peoples faces on the screen where they have had an accident and not been wearing their belt,As said previously get it changed but get a quality co to do it there are different qualities of glass and there are bodge ways of fitting it as well, ideally the car needs to be parked up in the cool for at least 2 hours and not moved so the sealant can cure properly.Different co"s us different applications as well some use hot sealant some cold it all depends on who is fitting it,but its best not to have one fitted on the m6 if you can help it.
