No Motor Vehicles Sign - Deryck Tintagel
One for the legal bods ..

Accidentally went through a No Motor Vehicles sign last night - actually had exemption for taxis, buses and permit holders and possibly loading / unloading. Saw the 20mph sign but not the other until too late. No police around (that I saw) and was not stopped - only security cameras scattered around the town centre.

Would this be endorsable or FPN?

It's an FPN 20 quid (or used to be). Forget it nothing will happen.

Not sure which sign you are referring to Deerk but:

If it was the red circle with white horizontal band therein - Sign 616 No Entry for vehiclular traffic then this is Fail to conform sign, Noip required and max fine £1,000, 3 points.

If it was the red outer circle on white plate with black car outline therein - sign 619-1, no motor vehicles except motor cycles without sidecars, or

Sign 617 red outer circle with white plain centre, sign 617 no vehicles except bicycles being pushed by hand,

then these later two are erected as a a result of a Traffic Order and contravention only attracts max £1,000 fine and no points.

If your local authority/police are not carrying out enforcement from camera detected offences then you have nothing to worry about.

This has bothered me for some time now. Can you actually possess "the Law" like in a CD box set, or build up in 12 weekly parts from your newsagent ( freeluxury leather binder with edition 1 ) etc. ?

Thanks for the reply - the sign was 618.2 with variants to allow buses, taxis and loading IIRC.

Not too much of a problem then!

They have, or had, such things locally, consisting of a no entry sign and a plate with a large list of exceptions; when one read it all, the conclusion was that a plate that just said "no private cars" would have been simpler - and entirely fitting for the anti-car council.

Between that and the lack of parking, it is rough on business; I do almost all my shopping by internet (so I cannot quote any penalties!).
