I am keen to ply line my Nissan Primastar van. It's the same body as the Vauxhall Vivaro and the new Renault Trafic.

With kits so expensive, when compared to the cost of the materials used, I'm keen to lay my hands on some patterns that I can just staple to the sheet material and then cut around with a jigsaw.

Is there anywhere I can get these from?

Thanks Read more

A friend of mine who is a carpet fitter and I used to equip vans at the weekend to supplement our meagre incomes. He would do the lining, and I would do the towbar fitting, lighting and electrics. As we were working in a very small way, we didn't use any official patterns.

We used cheap lino from which to make our templates. Its easy to cut holes in it to enable you to clamp it to the stiffeners at reasonably regular intervals before you cut round tricky bits like the wheel arches.

An Ebay bouhgt 6006 won't play loaded CDs and gives error code 3 after a CD reset command (load and eject buttions pressed together). Handbook says Code 3 = refer to dealer, but in-car audio is hard work for my Ford dealer. Any ideas/solutions? Read more

My 2001 Ghia X has the 6006E and it plays CDR discs ok. I've had single discs (not the CDRs BTW) that would not eject, a couple of times and I found that pressing and holding the "Eject" button until "Eject all" appears on the display usually clears it with mine.

Is it the sort that has a 'knock in'locking system? If so swap it with the other side and an unbent area should be by the indentation after torquing.Having said that a new one is preferable, but a useful trick if you cannot get one straightaway.

Hi

I have had a nightmare with a 1999 VW Golf.

The car was running rich and failed MOT with high enissions.

It is vibrating on idle and gives of an extremely pungent fuel smell on idle.

My mechanic replaced the lambda probe, cat converter, cleaned out throttle body and replaced engine manifold to no avail (and £900 later).

Now he reckons its the ECU.

Could this be the problem?

Advice urgently required!!!!!!

It might have helped a bit, to at least have given the engine type and size. The three-letter engine code would have been even better.

Before wasting your money on diagnosis by guesswork; why didn't your garage get the ECU scanned for fault-codes and live-data. It might have pointed them to the actual fault; which, if it's none of the good suggestions above, may well be the MAF sensor - if applicable - very easy to confirm from the live-data airflow/injector duration readings.

Hi all - slowly getting used to this www/broadband lark and discovering lots of usefull?? features not previously available and potential problems not previously an issue.

Firstly, how do we ensure our sons can't access anything naughty, dodgy or just plain private when they start using this machine to access the www? I know there is software available but how does it work and more importantly, is it any good? Furthermore, the history apparently lists all previous sites/pages visited so how do we ensure our kids can't simply access everything via that? Although we don't tend to surf anything dodgy, there will obviously be things we access which we wouldn't want them to view so can we hide/edit/erase the history? At present our main concern is them accessing unsuitable stuff inadvertently but as they get older they will be tempted sooner or later...

Secondly, does the history simply amount to a list of links to everything previously visited or is the actual content of each page viewed automatically saved on the PC? Given the proportion of chaff v. wheat on the web I don't want my pc rapdily filling up with junk.

Finally, just to reiterate, we're using an old W98 equipped machine and are somewhat less than PC literate so please keep it simple folks :)

TIA as always!

Not sure why you are looking for a serial port. USB to USB would be a good way to connect the computers AFAIK.

Any ideas please? I am using a concentrated screenwash mixed 50/50 with water; when it is in the plastic container it smells strongly but perfectly pleasant. When mixed in the reservoir and used on the screen there is a ghastly stink of bad eggs and I really do have to put the aircon onto recirculate to stop the smell. I have drained it all out once and replaced it, to no effect; luckily I drive alone most of the time and don't have to put up with any banter about curries etc! Read more

Many thanks for all the ideas and replies! The mystery seems to be solved. A chap in a motor spares shop said that if a 5 ltr can of concentrate had been opened and allowed to stand for a while (a year+) it could still be effective as a screenwash but could go "Off" chemically. I drained the system and filled up with a fresh 1 ltr of concentrate and 2 ltrs of tap water and all is well - no smell or what there is seems to be screenwash and not carp!

Old mobile phones and their IME's

This question is about old mobile phones being given to charity and whether their IME could cause any 'come back' for the previous user.

I have two modern Nokia PAYG mobiles into which I have transferred the sims from two old Motorola PAYG Orange ones and these new ones are now working OK. I have not de-registered the old IME numbers with Orange.

Partly this avoided any hassle (the new ones work OK) but also it was because their literature says that when I register a new phone they will be passing on my details to others for sales blurb purposes.

Unrelated to this, someone has now put a plastic bag through my letter box requesting old mobiles and offering a small sum to charity for each. The plastic bag instructions make no mention of the IME number but do say to keep the sim.

Anyone know of a reason not to dispose of mobiles with uncancelled IME's?

try that in a Morrisons store and you

won't be forced to stay - you just won't be allowed
to take the set with you.

So, they'd prevent me taking something I'd paid for? Surely not...

Adam has finally decided on a date for this prestigious event.

TUESDAY, the 17th JANUARY 2006.

Venue = The Waterside

7:30pm

If you're going to sat nav it,

Garswood Old Road
East Lancs Road
St Helens
Merseyside
WA11 9AB

Directions:

If you're coming off the M6, take jct 23 onto the Lancs. You'll go through one set of lights. Keep following it and you'll approach a bridge running over it. after a set of lights. Then some more traffic lights. Turn right at those lights then right again into the carpark (It will be obvious where it is from the lights - there's a Premier Lodge attached to it)

If you're coming from the other direction then you'll go past a Chinese Restaurant called "Chung Ku". After that, make sure you're in the left lane. Turn left at the lights and then right into the car park.

Quick warning - those lights have a camera on both sides. The amber period is very short so just be careful.

If anyone's got any problems then feel free to shout out. If anyone wants my number too then just drop me an email.

Thanks for being so patient folks. It's taken a while but I've finally done it!

Cheers,

Adam

Do you think you could organise another meet next week and
bring your camera ;)?
Wonder if Blue could make it:)?

Definately not! I used nearly a week's worth of diesel just to get to this one! :-)

I enjoyed the drive home a lot though, was nice having most of the road to myself.

Tonight I saw the strangest sight in Tesco's car park, a parked up (and empty) Citroen C5 estate nodding! I did stop and stare to check that my eyes were not deceiving me but it was definitely moving up and down on the front suspension. The back seemed to be staying put. Why would it do this?

Based on what you've just said, I would repeat my earlier answer and still agree with Nick's reply - that being the cause of the mayo is the short trips.
