The president of the EU is having a little get together with a few pals at Hampton Court on Thursday 27 Oct.
from my local free sheet
" Traffic will be diverted around the building as the leaders arrive but the details will be kept under wraps for security reasons"
"The palace will be shut THROUGHOUT THE HALF TERM BREAK to prepare security measures"
So forget taking the kiddies there.
"Kingston Peace Council will hold a protest on Hampton Court Bridge during the summit. 9am-10am & 4pm-6.30pm."
For those not familiar with the area. The palace next to the bridge where the A309 meets the A308.
So I have no idea on what the impact on the immediate traffic situation or the surrounding area but I for one will keep well clear.
I guess other organisations might also decide to join in the festivities. Read more
Just serviced the Vectra and replaced the pollen filter. Cost over £10.00 and as usual thought what am I changing this for and why not just throw the old one away and leave the box empty.
Obviously an important piece of kit for people who suffer from pollen but for the fortunate ones who don't what is the point.
The heater or cold air would come through unrestricted and obviously be more efficient.
Seem to remember Vauxhall were the first to install these.
Does anyone leave them out?. Read more
"even they don't actually know where it is"
That's comforting!
WRT whether it has one at all, I do recall hearing about it, and it aquares with the gradual fall-off in air flow over the years. I just turn the fan up, but I can well imagine the difference a new filter might make!
When ever you stop for a few minutes in my ex girlfriend's 94 Clio 1.2, the temperature gauge seems to go sky high very quickly. We know this as she stops quite frequently to practice turns in the road etc (she is a learner!!).
The fan doesnt seem to cut in either at this point. I did lub the fan mechanism as it felt very stiff when I tried to move it, but the problem is still there. It doesnt seem to be losing any water. What is wrong, what do I need to look at.
Thanks guys! Read more
replace thermostat first, then get fan thermoswitch checked out.Not certain of clio-but shorting out terminals on connector to switch will tell if fan is working or not,ie if shorting fails to make it work-fan has failed-fans as far as I recall are sealed,so no way to lubricate/repair?.someone else may know better on this car

Saturday I travelled to Bath for a wedding and never again unless I got to. It took me hour and half to travel off the A46 dual carriageway junction to the City centre and then drove around a long term car park for half hour to find a place to park.
When are they going to sort this place out. Its just as bad today as it was some 18 years ago when my sister lived there. Surely they can put a multi storey car park there to blend in with rest of stone built buildings on some near derilict ground which there are, in or near the city centre.
They've only half cured the problem with the A46, when is the rest going to be sorted. A4 and A36 ???? Read more
When the Batheaston bypass was being built, environmentalists and preservationists organised massive proptests.
Apparently thas were similar protests against the speculative development of Georgian Bath 250 years ago.
I wonder too if people protested about the building of the Iron Age hillfort on Solsbury Hill, next to the A46 section of the Batheaston bypass!
Cheers, SS
What in anyones opinion are the best seats ever put into a mass produced car?? (That can still be purchased and used day to day today e.g no 30 year old renaults)
The swedish and french cars all seem to get good reviews.
Is it wise to steer clear of german seats? Read more
Most comfortable:
1955 Austin A50
1968 Triumph 1300
1980 Renault 20TS
1998 Renault Laguna V6
2004 Audi A4 - the sports seats are worth the £500 extra: SWMBO, harder to please than I am, is at last comfortable.
Saabs have very good seats, but the last one I tried has some peculiar relationship between seat and steering wheel such that if the wheel was in the right position there was hardly room for your knees between the bottom of the wheel and the front of the seat cushion. I find that with Vauxhalls too.
Least comfortable:
Sit-up-and beg Ford Anglia / Popular
Old Mini
Chrysler Horizon (no lumbar support at all)
Jaguar X-type - terrible flat, short cushion
The immobiliser is stuck on my rover metro The engine will not start I have changed yhe batteries in the fob can anybody help Read more

My air bag light comes on when the car is warm
not in the morning on my way to work 10 minute drive

but intermitently comes on when driving say 5 miles and the car is warm
it will stay on for a few seconds and them go off
then it will stay on for a minute and go off
sometimes it wont come on for a while,,sometimes it is on/off/on/off/on/off
now.....the question is ,,,have i caused it???????????
i had a rattle by the passenger door ,,somewhere...so i squirted some spray grease around
the door frame, the seat bolsters, the side of the dash,,the top of the dash, underneath the dash, the door trim, the door handles(inside) basically ,,anywhere that could move..have i squirted a sensor???
and how much,,,in the UK would it cost to goto a dealership and have the sensors reset...???

Just read this review on carsurvey.org by an owner of a
TATA estate and thought you would find it interesting.
"Yeah it's true that the Estate is truly great car. My
dad bought this car three years back (2002). It had all
the rattling sounds a truck
The Tata Estate was an Estate version of the Loadabeta pickup -loosely resembles a Merc w124 Estate. Was very crudely engineered when India was closed to external technology sources. I would not generalise from that review that Tata cars are all that bad. They are no where near Hyundai - but, in India for a 5000 quid car which has space, a economical diesal engine and built for rough roads, the Indicar - is a pretty good bet, as a 7000 quid CityRover...forget it
My wife has a 94 clio 1.4 automatic, and every time the car is driven from being stood, there seems to be a lot of travel on the brake pedal & very little braking effect.Once the brakes are pumped several times they feel fine & work well.I have had the brakes bled & pads & shoes are fine, iam wondering could the problem lie in the servo or mastercylinder,i have noticed a hissing sound coming from the brake pedal when applied, before the pedal is pumped up. Yes iam begining to realise that, better stock up on elastaplasts as well.
Reading through the Mirrors? motoring section the other day, revealed that the old Clio II won't be killed off entirely, but be sold for 'several' years to come. It will make up the bottom of the entire range, undercutting the new models' price by some considerable margin, with prices starting at £7895 (as opposed to the new ones £8895). However, it will only be available in two door form and will be known as the 'Campus', sound familiar?
What gets me is, this isn't an unusual thing from a French manufacturer. They seem to be the only people that continue to sell an 'old' model for long after its successor has been released. Looking back there are a fair few:
- Peugeot 205: sold until 1996, with its replacement, the 106, being introduced some 4 years prior.
- Citroen AX: Sold for about 1 year after the Saxo was introduced
- Renault 5: sold for 5 years after the Clios introduction
- Peugeot 505: Ceased production in 1992, even though the production of 405s and 605 started in 1988 and 1989 respectively.
There may be more which I?ve missed, feel free to add them.
Personally, I can't think of any other country that does this. Whenever Ford, VW, Vauxhall etc, release a new model, the old one is quickly axed. Is it just the French and if so, why?

Another bit of trivia: The 306 directly replaced the 309, which
was not intended to be a Peugeot. It was the replacement
for the Talbot Horizon, and ws going to be called the
Arizona. However the Talbot name suffered more and more, so Peugeot
badged it as their own car. Arguably the number 309 was
deliberately chosen to differiate it from the rest of the range.
Nice bit of trivia there mare. Its all documented here:
