hi, just looking to tidy my motor up ready for sale, unfortunately found a nice red paint mark from somebody's door edge. Doesn't look too good on my blue renault Doh!
Anyway way of just making it disappear? I have no car maintenance/repair knowledge at all.

If you've not used T-cut before (best not to ever start) or any 'cutting' liquid/compound or whatever, you'd be better off avoiding it - you really could make a lot of work for yourself.

Do try the wax you've probably got, or buy some Mer, from the accessory store/Halfords.

It's a quality polish, with a mild cutting effect, so should do what you want!

Following on from a similiar threat of speed humps making roads damaging for low cars, does anyone else have a problem with height barriers ?.
One of my vehicle is an old Bedford RL and when we lived in Pembrokeshire we would go out on Sundays with it.
Now we are back in Hampshire there is almost nowhere to park it.
I suppose it is because of travellers ,but the height barriers have also caused non entry for (when we had it ) our old series 3 Landrover which had a roof rack.
I spoke to a chap who owns a Camper Van repair garage and he is delighted with them as he has loads with top front end repairs to mend.
Where do you park if you are touring with a camper van ?.
Also I have noticed since we have come back to the south how car parks have shrunk at beauty spots.
The car park at Chesil Beach was huge, and when we were kids we stopped there one night in a camper, now it is a tiny car park with pay and display meters, and is the same almost every where.

Hi,

Looking at buying a nearly new A4 2.0 TDI SE (2005 model). Could anyone tell me how much the servicing is likely to be for a minor/major service?

I want to compare against a C Class (expensive I know) and an Accord CDTi.

For the petrol intervals are around 18k, but for diesels intervals
can stretch as far as 30k.

In theory this is true, but in reality (unless you do 200 miles a day on a flat motorway only at 75 mph), you get about 19 to 21 thousand between services.

Costs vary considerably for the first service between £260 to £330 depending on wher you are in the country so phone around first !

I just had my cambelt break on a 1997 Rover 214 and damage the engine valves (and possibly pistons).

Does anyone know how much this SHOULD cost to get replaced, and what work i should get done?

Any breakdown of how the cost is worked out/what work is required would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Read more

Its a no win situation regarding repairs. Not knowing what is needed though pretty much new/recon unit,is needed.being the date is hardly worth the repair costs, dont go the scrap yard route.as a lot are scrapped for the same reason.if you had intentions of keeping the car maybe recon best way to go/as they are warranted,Just be carefull of whom you deal with

Has Ford released a new Ford Transit? Can't find anything on their website but I'm sure I saw something very transit sized with Ford badges on it, parked up just off the M62 today.

Much rounder front, along the lines of the Mercedes Sprinter, but you can't really get away from the box shape for the rest of it!

I'm guessing they've not released it yet as there's normally a big advert campaign.

Yes David, that's it. Sorry about that everyone, and good deduction on David's part though.

I recently posted asking for a realistic value for my wife's 1999 Fiesta. General feeling of value with it's low mileage and A/C at £2,300. Seen add on this site for Buymynewcar offering New Almera 1.5 'Flare' for under £6,000.

Having decided to run Fiesta for the foreseeable and then seeing this apparent bargain, I am doubting my decision to stick with the Ford.

OK. The obvious. My wife does circa 3-5,000 mile a year. The depreciation on the Fiesta has leveled out to be almost negligable. We have just had a full service done too, inc discs and pads (£300 all in). The Almera is about to be replaced and this is obviously a 'run-out' model.

However, on the Almera PAS, A/C, rear parking sensors (don't ask, but suprisingly required!), Elec windows, 3 year G/Tee, a Euro NCAP rating of 4 stars (against I seem to remember 2 for the 'old' style Fiesta - ask 'Renault Family' if Stars are important......), plus a few other bits and bobs (CD player for example)..... This seems hard to resist.

So £5,949 - £2,300 private sale on the Ford = £3,649 to find. Recently sold house and moving to East Sussex (wife to do School run with 5 yr old daughter every day ((no choice - sorry)). Could be funded with Credit card for heavens sake or out of savings.

I know the Nissan will be a lacklustre drive after the Fiesta, but the safety bit (as well as extra space - albeit compromised by chnage to 3dr from 5dr I know ), as well as very good sounds about reliability, plus 3yr G/tee for peace of mind and, at this price at least, less than savage depreciation (we would keep it for 4 years minimum anyway) suggests I should order now..............

Can anyone offer a really decent argument why not? Looking at the figures and taking into account all of the factors mentioned above I cannot see a reason not to. Any comments appreciated (well, constructive ones anyway!!). Have I missed anything?

Thanks for the input,

Gavin

Primeras have never been fashionable but have always been good cars.

I still look back with affection to my 'M' reg eGT (my first car!) and to a 1.6Si hire car I had for a week. Either would go around any corner at any speed.

Can anyone please explain to me the order Renault trim designations go? Authentique, Dynamique etc. Ta.

Sorry - there's another equally meaningless one on some Renaults - Initiale, at the top, above Privilege.

My interior lights come on and fade off with the engine running the dash also shows the drivers door as being open but is shut i have fitted a new door lock with contact switch but it is still doing it any ideas anyone? its a 2000 1.6 auto A4 Read more

Just a thought if you remove the driver and passenger end dash trims (trims you can only get to when the doors are open) look at where the dash bar bolts to the car with 17mm nuts, VAG had a bit of a run of trapping the wires behind this bar and sbolting the bars in whichin time caused wiring faults! might not be the problem but worth a look!

Anyone know what kind of Induction Kit gives out a deep sound when driving? I have one on my Prelude, and it does sound a little deep, but I want it deeper. Obviously, you guys have some experience in these matters, so what kind of affordable Induction Kit would you recommend for a 1. loud, deep sound, and a 2. Very loud, deep sound?

Heard that Pipercross are quite loud, but dunno. Read more

An induction kit will give you induction roar. But surely you want a nice deep tone exhaust to give the desired effect?
I fitted my Rover 800 turbo with a pipercross foam cone filter and stack together with a stainless Mongoose 3.5" exhaust. The effect on performance was good together with the other engine mods but the sound was understated and gorgeous. It sounded purposeful but descreet.

TVM - I hope you try an Octavia and let us know what you think. I've never driven one but they sound attractive, and it would be good to see an informed opinion.
