1998 2.5 V6 elite - failed the mot with a broken coil spring and leaking shocker. I can cope with the £217 for a pair of shockers but why are the coils £286 for a pair!? Can I fit standard ones?

I'm in the fortuate position of having a cherished dateless number plate up for sale on a retention certificate.
However a number plate company that shall remain nameless has quoted me a 25% commission charge of total selling price for said plate.
Now this sounds very excessive to me considering were talking several hundred pounds here.
Is there an easier way of selling a plate like this or have they got me over a barrel?
Is it sort of like a house sale, you really could do it without an Estate Agent but very messy?
Advice most welcome.. thanx Read more
There are a number of registration plate companies - have you only tried the one?

My Scenic 1.9dci has 17k miles and due its service at 18k. It has just came up with a warning message - "Change Oil Soon".
Is this just a standard message when it nears its service due, or should I be trying to bring the service forward and not using the car till then? Read more
Quote:- You'll love the particle filter bill, when you get it! Just under £700 at 72,000 miles on a EU4 compliant Peugeot and for this you get a few £s a year off your road tax! A tree huggers no-brainer IMHO
Do you have to replace this filter when it gets sooted up? Could you continue to motor on and just live with the message?
Does this filter get replaced on time/mileage or could short runs accelerate the process?
I am lucky enough to have got out of the UK a couple of years ago - life in Luxembourg is a lot cheaper, my road tax is a mere ?56 (£38) a year and diesel is £0.62/litre!
Thanks to these infernal devices I have had my 2k's worth of ohlins suspension wrecked. I am not in a good mood as I have had to shell out about £1400 on replacing it with some cheaper stuff as I just can't afford to replace them with what was on there. I go over most humps at about walking pace. Some I can't even get over without the car scraping as they are so large, or the road has sunk.
How do I go about suing the council and showing my utter disgust at these devices? How many more people have to suffer financial loss because of them? My work place also has the odd illegal hump so how do I go about suing the pair of them and make sure both of them cough up rather than each blame the other and I get nothing?
Right now I feel like with holding my council tax for the next however long until I have got my money back.

teabelly,
probably best to take this to email, rich_newbrook@hotmail.co.uk
Thanks for all your help.
FWIW it's best not to post full email addresses as they are simply hoovered up by spammers and you then suffer. You could simply post your email address as rich_newbrook at hotmail dot co dot uk and I think most people would understand.

Hi all - could do with some advice.
Mum, Dad and I were due to go to Ireland tomorrow for the weekend and had booked a ferry crossing with (or so we thought) The Isle Of Man Steam Packet Company (for the sake of laziness, hereonin referred to as TSPC!)
After ringing up to ask a simply query today, we found that the ferry company has gone bust. But oh no - not TSPC - some other company which I can't remember. After a multitude of phone calls to TSPC, it turns out they're also a handling agency and booked a different company to cross us over.
We weren't told this at the time and upon checking the bank statements, the TSPC (who are doing a roaring trade I'm sure) have taken the money out and refused to refund it.
Basically, they say call your bank, and your bank say it's their problem. Needless to say it's annoying and quite frankly, the staff at TSPC are being quite rude.
We've had to cancel the kennels for the dogs and the hotel in Ireland and with it being so close, that's costing a fair bit in penalties. (That's irrelevant though - we don't want compo or anything - just our ferry money.
Any help would be gratefully appreciated,
Adam

Sorry, it's a thermocline, not an anticline.
Yesterday spotted a parked car with the Reg No 0005RAG with no spaces between any of the marks.
Now I have never seen zeros starting a number, also 4 digits and three letters are are not normal.
Should this number be 5RAG or is it 00 05 RAG?, if so, which reg authority issues the 00 prefix
It was fitted to an Aston Martin Convertible. Read more
Well done! It's the Bailiff's car (the previous Bailiff and my wife share a great-uncle, so we were staying there).
Just to add - I have been looking at this product, and as far as I can tell from the blurb on the net, it does not give you your true speed at any given time. It will however show (when stationary) average speed and maximum speed during a journey. Unless anyone knows any different.
Looks like a good buy - especially as you can attach it to a Pocket PC. Read more
Thank you for replying & clearing this up.
I am looking to buy an ex-motability Astra from the auctions. My wife only drives an auto and there seem to be plenty of low mileage ones there. The problem is that we have set our heart on having aircon in the next car we buy and all of the ones I have seen don't come with it. The same applies to Almeras which are we may also consider.
My question is: How feasible (and expensive) would it be to get it fitted by an independant specialist? Does anybody out there have any ideas?

I think you are right John, Motability probably bought up the last of the older non-aircon models in bulk, there seem to be a lot about at BCA.
I've sent a couple of enquiry emails to companies who specialise in aftermarket aircon - result? No replies! Why do they have websites if they don't answer enquiries, even if it's a no? My quest will continue. I have now subscribed to auctionview.co.uk so at least I can get a look at whats on offer well in advance.
Thanks to the others who have replied as well.
Any advice on powder coating and finishing by the way - I'm your man.
My Omega was found to have a cracked rear coil spring; well-spotted by my garage.
Nothing had been noticed during driving.
My garage fitted a replacement pair.
With a full load, the exhaust was scraping on road humps and, once, even on the motorway.
The garage said that the wrong springs had been fitted and repaced them free of charge.
The suspension looked a lot higher then; wheel arches a couple of inches higher than the wheels.
But, with even less than a full load (4 adults, no luggage)the exhaust still scrapes on road humps.
Anyone got any suggestions?
Thanks,
