The windscreen washer isn't working (yes, it does have water).

Where on earth is the fuse ? I've found a couple of fuse boxes but neither have anything likely in them.

If anybody knows, or can look it up, I'd be grateful.

I'm not surprised that the engine lost all power. The little so-and-so is supposed to be on the treadmill and not building a nest for a snooze!

Hi guys,
Just bought a stolen recovered one of the above. Ignition was knackered so it has been replaced and chipped back to the ECU.
Problem is i have no fuel being lifted from the tank. I also have no fault codes so i assume all parts are ok including the fuel pump.
The vehicle has been sitting for 6 months.......
So any ideas?
would the bleed off pipes being knackered cause a total loss of fuel?does the immo stop the fuel?

Certain vauxhall diesel engines have bother starting in the morning, due to the leak off pipes going hard which enables air to be drawn in overnight. It sounds silly but have you tried a tow start? i've had to do this many a time after changing the fuel filter on the likes of the vaux zafira as it saves a load of cranking over, trying to draw the fuel up.Id try these simple things first, before investigating the fuel lines/electrics etc.

I know there are a few Yaris owners around the BR, so I just thought I'd let you know that Haynes brought out a manual for the Yaris a few weeks ago. It covers the 1.0 and 1.3, but not the 1.5.

Thanks for that.
My dauhter has a 1.3 and guess who keeps an eye on the mechanicals.

Although there are less things that I would tackle these days I still find useful info in them.

I will be interested to see a new publication as I Emailed them a while back about updating areas of all the manuals, to which they agreed.

Can anyone tell me how to remove the Clarion cd/radio from a 99 Peugeot 406?

Also, has anyone had any problems with intermittent radio reception on a 406,and what was the problem?

I know it's not the aerial,as it,and the base have been replaced with brand new items,so I'm looking at maybe a fault with the tuner pack.If this is the case,(Clarion want nearly £100 to replace it,plus shipping to Swindon.)are there any alternatives? Read more

The Focus tailgate is well known for making odd creaking noises so I would rule that out first - the official Ford fix is to wrap insulation tape around the locking pin. A bit crude, but it seems to solve the problem.

Hello,
can anyone give me any ideas to whats wrong with the central locking on my focus? This morning I used the remote key to unlock the car and it would'nt work.So when I tried unlocking it manually it triggered off the alarm.I thought it would stop after switching on the ignition but continued several times on and off on my journey.Eventually I found by locking the drivers door from the inside helped switch the alarm off.The other ploblem is ,when Ive locked the door from the inside ,I cannot re-open it ,because it stays locked and so I have to climb out of the passenger side.Could this just be down to buying a replacement battery for the key or is it the diagnostics. Yes - borrowed one of these today whilst mine was in for a fettle.
12 years later what had LR changed ?

Electric windows, fancy alloys, remote locking and er...that's it.

Nevertheless, the one I had was finished in Teal(?) blue and drove like a good 'un. It smelt new in a very retro 70s sort of way, what struck me was the solidity of the beast, driving position spot on, big steering wheel (but hell you need that for real off roading) on-off clutch just like mine. Some really retro bits, Ital style stalks, Marina key, but it all makes sense - perfect sense. This is not a prissy soft roader, this is the real thing. A light switch designed to be found in the dark, designed years ago for a gloved frozen paw - it works. Heater controls, exactly where they should be, again dead of night after birthing a 100 lambs in the snow test - perfect. Speedo, fuel, temp guages and a clock, spot on. The thing had a hand built quality. A heater fan that actually blasts and de-fogs, washers that work (wipers that would grace a Morris 1000), I love this truck. Another LR change its actually smooth at 60 on a Motorway, people keep away "who is this fool in a new Landie ?"

Forget your Shoguns, VWs, BMW and Volvo pretenders this is real 4x4 motoring, a very British experience; thanks LR for keeping the faith !

Oh and another thing they changed a speedo that was rock steady at every speed ! Read more

One significant change they made in the last 12 years....

The 300TDi engine was replaced IIRC by the TD5 at around S or T reg.

Just to give fellow BR members an idea of how vital the income from parking fees is to some local Councils the following may be of interest! A lady, working for the North Kesteven Council, has just been sent to prison for 3 years for stealing money from the local parking fees. Her job was to count the money and she managed to steal £500,000 in 10 years and wasn't detected until there was an audit. Read more

Mind you it must have cost that much to employ the
auditors to find this out in the first place !

Local authorities are (or were) audited by the Audit Commission, an official body. So there would be little or no marginal cost to notice that, in fact.

There was a book on the history of the AC - the cover has a picture of a grey anonymous-looking chap in a suit carrying a briefcase, and the sub-title was "The man the grafters fear!!". It told the story of all the interesting moments in the auditors' careers, the moments when they caught someone with their fingers in the till. It wasn't very thick, IIRC.

And no, I don't know who audits the books for the Audit Commission.

I kid you not. The new Corsa/punto is to be sold in Australia as a 4 door, and they are going to call it a Viva! I think Vauxhall should follow suit and revive this classic name. How about a Magnum version with no-style wheels and a V6? Read more

expat

You are right in saying that Holden is to revive the Viva name but not with a Corsa. They are using the Daewoo Lacetti as the new Viva.
www.holden.com.au/www-holden/jsp/popups/viva.jsp
It will undercut the Astra by about A$4000. They are also going to sell the Daewoo Kalos badged as the Holden Barina at A$12,500 to replace the current Barina which is a rebadged Corsa.

This sort of sharp pricing and GM's marketing expertise is likely to mean big sales. Whether they will keep the Astra is problematical. For a manufacturer to have two different cars the same size in a market the size of Australia isn't terribly likely.
