After a recent service I was told that 'both front cv cracking'.Is this expensive to sort out.
I am looking at changing the coolant myself for the first time-I am not particularly mechanically minded but thought I should give it a go.Is it simple?
My boot is getting difficult to open.I should just be able to push where the key goes in ( if unlocked obviously ), but recently it has just pushed in and not opened. I have had to use the key in the lock which can be inconvenient- any ideas ??
thanks...

I reckon they mean the rubber boots on the CV joints. About an hour each side to change. If you are keeping the car then insist that the garage use genuine Nissan boots.
Agree that the lock needs a blast of spray lubricant - that should free it up.

Hi Greg,

I remember when I lived over in Lancing seeing lots of ads for an auction place in Shoreham. Not got any more info than that for you sorry, but I know a few friends went there a few times to get some cars.

Hope you manage to find something!

Hi,

I will be moving into a "new build" house in a few weeks and I'm thinking this is the ideal opportunity to prepare the garage before it is filled with the contents of my existing garage. It's just a single garage.

I've been looking at both PVC floor tiles and epoxy resin coatings.

The floor tiles have the advantage of being portable (so I can take them with me to my next house) and easy to lay. The finish from epoxy resin looks superb though.

Questions:

- Does anyone have any experience of applying epoxy resin to their own garage? What finish have you ended up with and was it worth it? What did it cost to do?
- Alternatively, has anyone purchased the PVC floor tiles and can offer feedback on these?

Ebay seems to offer avenues for purchasing both the floor tiles and the epoxy resin at considerable savings over advertised prices (see following link). Would be interested to know if anyone has gone down this route?

This topic came up a while ago. General opinion seemed to be that 2-part paint pack was the best option and Johnstone's floor paints received many plaudits.

www.johnstones-paints.co.uk/site/johnstones.asp?ca...3

Preparation obviously key factor, but if new then you've probably not got too many problems of dust & grease removal. Might be worth checking with the builder about the date the concrete was laid - some of these paints need to have a minimum period of time for the concrete to cure before painting can be done.

Shortly require replacement brake discs and pads for my Rover 25. I am thinking of 'upgrading' to drilled and grooved discs such as the Rossini items offered by Car Parts Direct, I would be interested to hear if any BR's have fitted these discs and if they do provide any benefit over OE discs.

Complete rubbish, nothing to do with temperatures and a lot with keeping the pads clean and releasing the gas build up.
Temps are a factor of pad material than disc type anyway, with harder pads needing to be hot before they're working, disc type makes very little difference to that.
The JTD is actually quite heavy and IT DID make a difference. The original discs weren't that worn anyway.
Also had an Alfa 75 and grooved discs didn't make very much difference.

As for waste of money they were cheaper than OE so how can it be a waste?

Hi all.

On vacaation, sorry, hols as I type. Friends have hired a new chrysler sebring 2.7L GTC, which is a convertible. But it handles like a barge. I thought USA cars had come on a bit. So I check tyre pressure plate in door & it say 30psi on goodyear eagle LS P205/goR16/91T. Seems very low, given my golf cab is 35 psi all round & a quick look at comparable weight cars like volvo convertible & Audi have 34psi. Sooo, are we talking the same definitions of PSI here?

Not exactly quick either! Ho hum, like you can drive fast over here anyhow, but it would be confidence boosting if it were to change direction roughly when you asked it too & not give the feeling that the tyre are just about to roll off the rims.

Any thoughts all?

Many Thanks

PS They have some really low octane fuel out here. 87 seems to considered a bit of a luxury-sebring is calibrated to run on this & has no sensors to retard for anything higher. & all the new car ads are shouting about cars that return over 30 mpg as something good. And they're all upset that
fuel is now over $3 a gallon. Bless... Read more

Somewhere there must be a US based motoring website with members complaining about the rough ride and twitchy steering of the European car they rented while on vacation in Europe. No doubt they will also have have posted trying to find a way to "fix" the strange behaviour and make the car more smooth and comfortable.

Hi I'm guessing this applies universally to all cars, on the heated rear screens how does the connector bond to the screen? Mine has been caught getting stuff in and out the boot and is no longer attached, with winter drawing in I want to re attach it.
If it makes an difference its on a pug 306 TD 1995

Note that the link to the loctite site posted by me no longer works.

I think Halfords also sell a conductive adhesive as well.

Hi All,

Will my 53 plate Nissan Primera 2.2 DCI SVE broke down for the second time last week requiring RAC call out.

The RAC thought it was a failed starter motor but dealer said its a poor earth.

Once they got it started they said how noisy the engine is and rung me to say the timming chain was due to brake anytime so now I have been 3 days so far with car off the road.

Annoying thing is the car was in 2 months ago for its 60000 mile service and I said that its smoking loads on aceleration. I was told that all was fine and don't worry about it.

The funny thing is my Alfa Romeo which I had before was more reliable and never broke down!

I am picking up my New Golf GTI in 2 weeks time although the honest John car by car breakdown does not give the mark 5 golf a high reliablitly write up either.

My feeling is modern cars are not as reliable as they used to be.

Cheers

Haven't done this run for a while but will be doing so midweek, aiming to arrive at Stansted for an 09.00 weekday flight.

Does anyone know of any current or forthcoming roadworks on the M25 or M11 which may affect my timing?

I normally leave at about 06.30 allowing about an hour for the journey but on a previous trip roadworks on the M11 very nearly spoiled the party!

Also, are there any websites which detail current motorway problem areas?

Many thanks! Read more

Seamus, my dad's 806 has one, it is mounted on the side inside the boot. IIRC, it is inside some sort of hatch thing which means that you need to tilt it to actually eject the cartridge. If you look at your own boot it may make sense! RHS of boot as you are looking into it.
