Would someone be kind enough to explain when it is necessary to
Spool down the turbo. Is it recommended after short journeys of say 5 miles in town driving conditions? or only after motorway trips. Your advice would be appreciated. Read more
Many thanks for your help and information on this subject.I was concerned about all the adverse articles about turbo charger problems and I am trying to avoid them.
Just spent a great week's holiday in Southern Italy .Lots to recommend it but I reckon I saw the worst collective driving I've ever seen.
Stupid speeds, poor lane discipline, behaviour at junctions.
Seat-belt wearing less than 50% .Did not see one child strapped in the whole week, most sitting in front, often on the lap of an unbelted adult. Massive use of phones while driving, no hands-free in use , often letting go of the sheel entirely .
Combine that with some truly dreadful cars and it's like something from the stone-age Read more
I agree, the Arcimboldi theatre is amazing, but
is now completely shut, with no prospect of it reopening -
absolutely scandalous.
Shut! no longer used?? Scandalous is right... but don't you also think somehow very Italian? :D

Is it acceptable for small minor blemishes on a new car to require a repair? Like small scatch or "nic" in trim or small scuff or mark? Car is new, but un purchased yet.
Maybe its fairly common to request these when you look over the car. Advice? Read more
If you try and sell the car back to the dealer, they will point to the damage and explain why that means they have to offer you less.
So .... sauce for gander, I think.
i have had the prodlem when the speedo goes off and the stereo goes quiet,my dad put it on his sykes pickavant ac4 diagnostic reader and it was a gearbox speedometer sensor at fault - bit awkward to do, you need to disconnect the plug in it under car on gearbox then knock out the pin to release it then replace with new one £30 upwards but it cured it straight away that was over a year ago dont dother going to dealer Read more
I see in our local car parts chain store that conventional headlamp bulbs can be replaced with a variety of high-brilliance types (claimed up to 50% brighter). These are not Xenon headlamps per se, although the bulbs contain Xenon gas apparently. Some have a blue tint and some are so blue that they're labelled as not legal for road use.
The voltage/wattages (e.g. of an H7 bulb, 12V 55W) are the same as the basic bulb, just the price is higher.
Are they a good idea?

Just one point - no use having superior headlight bulbs if the headlight lenses are dirty...:-)
I use a small amount of car wax on mine about once a month and buff the glass up every few days which helps to keep them clean and, hopefully, water marks/dirt free.

Just had the regular weekend e-mail newsletter from respected online retailer BigPockets with details of an unusual ICE product that might interest forum members.
Apart from RDS, EON and TA/TP, the H&B CA-5555 also features a USB pen drive socket (for MP3), Secure Digital/MultiMedia Card card reader slot (MP3), is compatible with Audio CD and CD-R/RW disks and delivers up to 4 x 45W.
Price is £89.99. See:

I'm very tempted by this because my previously excellent two-year-old Sony is getting temperamental: it forgets settings at random* and the front panel doesn't always make contact properly.
The B&H can be found at ebuyer.com at £78.49, pixmania.com at £77, and savastore.com at £76.48. The customer reviews on these sites are almost all favourable, although one or two people say they have had problems with USB pen drives. Those hoping to get USB hard drives to work seem a little optimistic to me. Even if the USB port is no good for its intended purpose, it could presumably be used for charging a mobile phone or MP3 player.
Anyone looking for a budget player that also does MP3s may also be interested in www.bluespot.co.uk/stock/dresden.asp . This lacks the card reader but is at least a recognised brand. Blaupunkt do make players with card readers but they cost a lot more.
MP3 is ideal for car listening: you can get a huge amount of music on a single disc without the need for a CD changer. The loss in quality caused by the MP3 compression is unlikely to be noticeable in what is inevitably a less than ideal listening environment
* Yes, I realise this could be evidence of a loose wire or incorrect installation.
the no name copper grease ive been using doesnt seem to be too effective, can anyone suggest a good brand thats easily availble? Read more
Have a scan around the Enginewise website - lots of good stuff including greases. www.enginewise.co.uk/

Do a search for 'megane erratic speedo' It'll prob be an earth fault which is common on renaults. Find the Speedo connection on the gearbox and connect an earth connection to the black wire (Usually). Hopefully this should cure it.
