Has anyone out there had any experience of fitting a diesel tuning kit from Dragon Performance. Alternatively, I'd like to hear from any Focus tdci owners who have had tuning units fitted.

hello all, just thought i would ask for a general overview from all you motorists out there on roadworks.
I am a tree surgeon and we recently had cause to take down a large roadside ash tree. we used traffic control to ensure the saftey of passing motorists, however the level of verbal abuse we had was amazing. the work was crucial to road saftey and we worked as fast as we could to minimise disrution .
any thoughts peeps?

Hi,

Looking at getting a Pajero or Toyota Surf and a local dealer has pointed me to the auction at Southampton Docks on a Monday and Tuesday. He also said they now allow anyone to buy the vehicles where in the past it was just dealers - is this true?

Also - anyone know if there is a website or at least a mailing list to get a list of the vehicles for sale?

Thanks

I have sufferd from back pain for many years, not helped by being 6' 2" tall. I currently have a Nissan Primera 1997 GX with 106k on the clock and am looking to replace it because the gearbox is getting clunky and gas struts have lost their push. However the drivers seat is good for me. I looked at new cars for over a year. I want something with good reliability but the seating is most important. I tried a Mazda 6 in 2004 but found the ride and seating much too hard. Similarly the new Primera was uncomfortable. This year I test drove a VW Touran, Passat and Skoda Octavia (latest model). The Passat gave me back ache in 30 minutes but the Skoda seemed very good so I bought it. Big mistake and expensive! In 4 days my back hurt so much I was unable to work. I fact I had 6 days off work in 2 weeks and my back has still not recovered after 3 months. I consulted a physiotherapist who specialised in ergonomics and he told me that I could never be comfotable in the Skoda because the seat was wrong for me, especially it was too narrow (10 cm narrower than most). I had to take it back, retrieve my Primera and suffer the loss. Any suggestions on what to try next?

I'm 6ft 5. When I got my Focus, the first long run on it I got a horrible pain to the right of my spine. It was pretty painful so just on a whim, I twiddled that lumbar support thingy and made the back of the seat as hard as possible.

It's great now. Can spend many an hour in the car and feel surprisingly comfy.

Of course, the Merc E class made my seats look like a cardboard box.

does anyone have any ideas what could be causing my battery light to flicker (at low revs) and glow bright at high revs.
i have tested the alternator (13.5-14.6v) and the battery loaded and unloaded, neither reading below 13v.
the voltage regulator in the alternator is fine too as it is giving out a nice even charge (no surges)
the only key events that could possibly of contributed are ,
1. the battery in the remote keyfob became flat causing the imobilisor diode to flash constantly when engine runs
2.the battery on the car was totally flat one morning, but charged fine and hasnt run down again
i am totally confused as i have tried all the sensible diagnostics and still am non the wiser , the beers are on me if someone has a good solution!! Read more

Not actualy correct,if you have worn/stuck brushes.one is liable to short rather than contact the commutator.it can occur that the brush shorting out destroys the copper-leading to out of round commutator, common problem back in the seventies/early eighties

I have a new job that will involve a train trip to London, rather than driving 85 miles a day. Start in a couple of months.
I propose to sell my Leon Cupra (53 reg, 41k miles, serviced by SEAT every 10k), and buy a 1980's Porsche 911 with the proceeds, largely because I can, and it may be the last chance I have to own one (possibility of kids etc). I reckon I'll get between £10k and £11k for the Leon- there are 911s at this price, but I won't have much of a slush fund if there are problems. Am I mad to consider this?? Any owners with advice as to what to look out for?

Thanks in advance,

Alex.

My neighbour is an experienced dealer in used Porsches and has looked at this thread. He reckons you should stay with your Cupra. Guess what he drives - a Seat Leon Cupra.

Having seen a post in Technical Matters about a Micra having a light instead of a temperature gauge; are more and more manufacturers going the same way?

Having driven an Astra on and off all week, that also didn't have a temperature gauge either. Recently a friend (who like me, loves his Vauxhalls - as does his wife, son and daughter) was telling me that his wife was about to buy a new Astra until she noticed it was missing the temp gauge. Because of this she changed her mind and went and bought a new Golf instead.

I know that having a light instead of a gauge is by no means new. I once borrowed an old X reg (1981) Audi 80 Coupe several years ago and that had a light instead of a gauge.

What are other people's views on this?

Do you prefer a gauge, or are you happy for a light to come on to indicate the engine is still cold or over heating?

Personally I prefer a gauge, but if the sensors that control the light are reliable, then I guess I could live with a light instead.

:) Well if we're playing who has guages....

Both my Alfa's have Temp, Voltage and Oil Presure gauges. With a nod in the direction of the other thread they also have Tacho's.
I like 'em!

With lights.. by the time they're shining it's too late.

I purchased the above car on 28/07/05 and as soon as I joined my out of town route and accelerated to 35 to 40 mph, I immediately noticed an annoying whine. This persists at all speeds above this and on blipping the accelerator, rises and falls accordingly.

Been back to the dealer who is pushing the old "characteristic" of the car theme which I'm not accepting.

Has anyone else any experience of this problem, the likely source or remedy, please? Read more

Hi! Andy.

Thanks for your reply re my "2005 CRV Whine problem.

I hate to show my ignorance, but could you please let me know what "balancer shafts" are and their location - the engine perhaps?
