Absolutely! Far more entertaining.
Be interesting to see if any of them run out of fuel under the new rules. Read more
Hello all.
Recently, I've been taking the country road route to Uni...to be honest, I've been taking the country road route everywhere! Anyway, I fill up at the same station usually, same pump, always put 20 quid in and I always fill up at the same time (when the light comes on).
Anyway - I've been driving a little more...spirited on these roads which are great fun it must be said and I have to say, I'm pretty sure the car has a touch more power. I know it sounds weird and I know it sounds psychological but I'm not the only one who's said it.
I've heard all about de-cokes and that business but didn't think that applied to more modern engines. I know you should change gear before 3k revs if you like your petrol but I can't help myself taking it a bit higher. Over the past week or so, I've been taking it up to 4,500 - 5,000 (which puts a smile on my face) and I have to say, the car feels better than ever.
My question, in case you've tuned out by now is as follows. Is my (alleged) engine power increase:
a) Due to more enthusiastic driving
b) Due to "non-winter" petrol (Summer petrol you might say)
c) Temperature related
d) In my head
Many thanks for any replies
(By the way - before I go sounding like a reckless maniac, if it pleases anyone, the speed limit was only broken by 40mph at most, overtakes were done long before you could see the whites of oncoming driver's eyes with a good 2 seconds to spare, horn beeping was kept to a minimum (about 5 every hour) and the obligatory dance music was kept to around 160dB at most.)

Easier to just stand on the clutch. And don't ask
me how I know that! ;-)
P.S. Humpback bridges alone are boring. Much more fun if rapidly
followed by a very sharp bend. And don't ask me how
I know that either ...
Even more fun; a hump back bridge followed by another hump back bridge in a rear engined car, spine crushing, I can tell you.
Has anyone ever driven through paint that had been spilt in the road? Unfortunatley it seems I have And I now have nice light blue flecks over the bottom of my car. Does anyone know of a product out there or how I can remove these marks without damaging the cars paintwork?

What about using autoglym's intensive tar remover?? I have no idea if it will work on paint or not but its probably what i'd try if I had the same problem.
A friend owns a shop with a flat over. The flat is rented to someone who now owes thousands of pounds of back rent due to being unemployed for nearly a year. The tenant has agreed to finally move out by the 23 April. I doubt if my friend will ever see the outstanding money, as the flat is also in a terrible state and will have to be refurbished.
There is private parking to the rear of the shop and the tenant has a car parked there. It has not been used for over 2 years as it was slightly damaged in an accident. The car is not currently taxed, so I presume it has been SORNed.
The worry is that the tenant will leave the car behind. What can my friend legally do to dispose of it? Read more
From experience of several people I know, be very careful about assuming ownership of a vehicle, even if apparently abandoned and the owner owing rent.
A friend was prosecuted for theft of a motorbike, abandoned on his property. As soon as he tried to register it, the previous owner suddenly materialised, called the police, and my friend was charged and fined.
Let the LA take the worry of sorting out the legal position, and don't touch it.
Dealers keep telling me they'll give me 'book price' for my wife's 1996N car but it doesn't seem to be in the book!
Glass only goes back to 1997 so where are they plucking the figures from. One was honest enough to tell me it wasn't in Glass or CAP. I got a Glass valuation for a 1997P and deducted £500 from it but it is nowhere near.
Car is a BMW 318Ti 1.9 Auto 53000 FBMWSH in near perfect condition except for some slight fading of the Red paint. £2500 is the sort of figure they come up with yet Glass says around £4000 for a 1997P.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Thanks for the response.
I was thinking around £2800 considering it's condition and mileage. Just shows thinking can be a mistake :-(

Is there any way of dealing with this other than a new wheel?
Thanks

A little girl told me that it was a monster smell.
Anyway, how come you're using so much of it that its
actually messing up the leather in your car ? Don't you
think a little restraint might be in order ?
Although it having happened, I don't think a recovery is possible.
Say hello to the little girl from the monster. I propose that said monster gets together with little girl's dad some time next week for a beer?
I think the steering wheel demolition stems from my hurried morning ablutions, whereby the smelly stuff is still fresh on my hands as I run, Le Mans style, to my waiting car with my tie trailing undone over my shoulder with my cufflinks jiggling in my pocket. I think arriving on the platform 45 seconds before the train departs is perfectly acceptable.....
And this behaviour has been pretty much consistent throughout the 60k+ miles I've done in the Alfa.
On our 98 A4 Quattro tdi the abs has started cutting in at low speed light braking. So when just coming to a halt at junctions etc. I have plugged vag-com in and it shows no faults (at rest). I intend to go out with a friend and see what it shows up when the problem occurs. I have done a search on google and have come up with a possible sensor fault. I will take them out and clean them, is this likly to be the problem ? I dont fancy the cost of a new abs controller or pump.
Also the airbag light has come on. Does anyone know if the wires pass under the seat ? Its my wifes car but I use it as well and the seat gets adjusted every time (1 foot diff in height) and I seem to remember being told that the wires can be damaged under the seat. I haven't put vagcom on this because Im not sure of the exact controller, and vw had a problem where if you try to diag the airbags the light comes on and will never go off.
thanks
Mark

Hi,
I am sure somone with more tech know how than be will be around soon. With the question to wires under the seat I belive the your audi has a seatbelt tensioner which is attached to the Seat belt reel rather than some cars have the seat belt tensioner attached to the seat belt stalk hence wires under the seat to link it to the airbag system.
So not sure if wiggling the wires under the seat will help in an audi.
Cheers

the car is a 93' pug 306 1.4, the car overheats slightly and the heater inside the car doesnt work, lve changed the thermostat and drained the system flushing through the best l could with the garden hose, refilled the system using a header tank on the expansion tank and bled the system, now getting some (not a lot) heat in the car, lm now thinking the heater matrix is partially blocked any suggestions how to unblock? lve heard changing the matrix is a dashboard out job.

my lad has just bought his first car a pug 1.4 306, the car runs well enough but we have some problems to solve, first one is when the car is cornering a knocking noise can be heard from the front of the car, lve checked the wheel bearings - no play and the wheels spin freely enough with no apparent noise, l then jacked the front of the car up and turned the steering from side to side there is a knocking/grinding noise coming from the top of the suspension mounts one side louder than the other, could this be the noise when driving the car? any help and advice appreciated.

Yes, I think its the bearing at the top of the strut. I had a 306 with this problem. Additionally, the defective bearing in my car would make a noise as the steering was rotated from side to side.
Having been to a large car auction this week, nearly everytime I tried to get close to or sit in a car, I was told I wasnt allowed to!!
I'd never try to sit in a car if it was about to be driven into the rostrum - everytime I was told off though the car was about 10 cars away from the rostrum and no driver was in sight!!
I have never encountered this problem before in 15 years of attending auctions.
I was more or less being followed around the site and on 4 occasions was ordered outside the car I was looking at! I am a graduate in my late 20s and was reasonably well dressed so have absolutely no idea why I was being targetted!
Auctions are a pretty stressful environment at the best of times. There is very little time to check under the bonnet, in the boot, let alone check the air conditioning works etc.
I was told by this member of staff that it is now company policy not to allow bidders to sit in cars - is this nonsense or some new health and safety regulation? If it is health and safety, surely notices should be put up to this effect at the auction.
Besides, the biggest risk to health and safety at most of the auctions I've attended is the break neck speed some of the auction drivers speed around the site! I once enquired about a Jaguar only to hear it had been written off within the auction site!
Don't want to sound a complete Victor Meldrew but I was getting very pink fluffy diced off with this guy hassling me for no reason and it put me off staying at the auction as long as I planned to. I didn't buy anything that day and will need to go back again soon. I'd greatly appreciate experiences of other auction goers and my best plan of action in order to overcome this in future. I have already contacted the HQ of the auction in question to ascertain their policy on viewing cars.
I often take friends and clients to auctions and do not wish to be treated as a naughty school boy when checking to see if the air con works on a prospective purchase!

Within ten miles, RF? You should be so lucky. My local auction is 60 miles away. I am off down there next week where there should be a Holden Commodore coming up that I have my eye on.
I thought I'd heard it as Blata/WCM going for the 6 cylinder.
Can you imagine the howl of a V6 at 21000 rpm as suspected when they drop to 800cc !
Earlier F1 involvement in motogp was a bit dismal - couldn't get the weight down (was it last year? or year before?).
