Hi all.
I came across a link to a movie about Jeremy Clarkson & co trying there best to kill a toyota. I'd never seen it before, and was completely amazed. Thought I would post the (hopefully non clickable) link.

Got to say that its definately NOT modem friendly. File is just over 50 meg.

(BTW, I have no connection at all with the site this came from)
(Thanks WTV. Since this is one of the best things Top Gear ever did I tried to make link clickable ands tried to make it work, but it won't. Please try reposting the link. HJ)
{I've now corrected the link, so it should work. DD}

I am think of buying a 2000 Nissan Almera Tino 2.2 diesel.
When I took it for a test drive the car pulled to the left.
The garage has checked out the wheel aliengment(slight adjustment required) and replaced the front tyres. They say that this has solved the problem. I am going to test drive it again -but should there be anything else I should be looking out for?
.
Cheers

Hi hope somebody can help.
I have '98 1.4 306 which has been a great car until recently. There seems to be a problem with it which i cant sort. When i have been driving it it seems to judder when i pull up to the traffic lights, sometimes it eratic others not at all.
It also sometimes seems not to have the same amount of power that it use to i seem to have to give it more gas when accelerating as it feels sluggish and sometimes judders.
Did not know if it was the ECU unit or the coil. If its the ECU would a second hand one repair it and how do youe remove it.
Hope someone can help.

Does the car idle badly? If it does then it may be the stepper motor that is on its way out. You can clean the motor but the problem will return to haunt you. Its about £40-50.Its definately a DIY job.

I'm currently doing a 60 mile a day (in total - ie return) commute to work on the train. It takes about 1hr 20mins door to door, but by driving it can be done in about 40mins. I'm therefore thinking about ditching the train (not particularly environmentally friendly but I'm fed up of wasting 1hr+ a day).
I can't decide on whether to take a company car or use my own. I can get a pretty decent car (golf GTI, bmw 3 series) from the company for about £420/month (ie including tax, loss of allowance, etc).
Or I could drive my current car (5yr old Golf GTI), but am loath to put 15k extra miles on it a year and suffer the extra depreciation.
Or I could go out and buy a cheap car (£1k) to drive to work and keep the Golf for weekends.
Any thoughts on what would be a relatively cheap way of covering the 60miles? Read more
For what it's worth and with no particular point to make .....
I commute 60 miles/day and leased a Punto 1.9 JTD which (when pushed hard) yeilds about 50 mpg.
My monthly lease figure for the first 3 years was £202. I put in about £40 of diesel a week.
After 3 years (54,000 miles) I paid off the balloon - £2700 (from savings) - and now own the car but have no monthly repayment. I intend to run it into the ground.
The JTD is quick enough to keep up with traffic in the outside lane and yet must be one of the most economic around.
Kind Regards
I didnt believe it when I read it, but its true! Wouldn't it be ironic if they swooped in and got it cheap from the recievers. I know it ain't gonna happen but, you never know... those sneaky germans could of had a plan all along. Read more
BMW bought the RR trademark for £40m whereas VW bought the RR Motor Company for £430m.
From that you'd think BMW got the better deal but I'd say Bentley is doing rather well. You should see how many Continental GT's that roll off the production line in Crewe per hour. I bet they've been selling more cars than Rover for a while.
That hell on earth which is otherwise known as Central Croydon is apparently due for massive redevelopment costing £billions. Anyone care to bet whether it'll be a better place for motorists after it's all completed? With its combination of unintelligible road signs, restrictions, bus lanes and tram tracks it can't get any worse can it? Read more
Well I dare say that some of us won't be around here to 'talk' about the redevelopment when it's completed but I really hope they'll see sense and understand that draconian anti-car measure are not what's required. IMO what's required is a sensible balance which makes PT more viable and appealing whilst acknowledging that cars etc. are still essential and need to be accommodated. Will that happen? I wouldn't bet on it so my £££'s will probably wind up being spent elsewhere.
I am looking for enlightenment on number plates.
Recently I have seen two number plates which puzzled me.
One was three numerals "X" then three numerals e.g 123X456.
The other was five or six numerals without any alphabetletters.
Can anyone confirm that "PL" is the country code for Poland and if so what is the code for Portugal.
Regards to the backroomers I met at the Ace Cafe.
Best wishes

Five figure numbers with no letters, on British-style plates, is Guernsey.
Looking through bmw website.
they are quoting for a 330ci se between
Extra-urban (mpg) 40.9 (40.4)
Combined (mpg) 31.0 (29.4)
figures in brackets are for an auto
and a 320ci se
Extra-urban (mpg) 40.9 (38.7)
Combined (mpg) 31.7 (30.1)
so between a 2.2 and a 3 litre, there is only 1 mpg in it?
so if i had a 330ci se auto
i would have the same fuel consumption as a 2.2 manual?
surely this isnt right?
any idea's people?

the diesels do vary depending on driving styles
Very true,
I get high fifties, even 60 mpg from my 320d if I am cuising at around 60 mph under motorway conditions.
Between home and work (5 miles, 'urban') I get 42-44 mph.
Oz (as was)
Does anybody know if MGR underwrite this with an insurance company.
Presumably, if not, my 33 months unexpired warranty is now worthless, and possibly the AA Roadside assistance to boot.
Could be a market here for the aftermarket warranty boys!. Read more
And I was worried about my seven months remaining. More concerned about parts availability. Guess we'll have to wait until the smoke clears.
Predictably my buyer has got cold feet concerning buying my ZT, so getting my new car from an internet broker is a non-starter now.
I saw a vectra at a dealer last night (vauxhall specialist). Its a sep 04 (54) Vectra 2.2 direct Sri. 10,000m, sat nav, leather seats, 19" alloys (!!). £12995
What do you think of this price considering the extras. I drive the 3.2s every day at work and think they're generally ok. I have never monitored the values so I'm not sure if this is expensive or not. Read more
I seem to remeber HJ saying that the 19" alloys looked ´bling´ but destroyed the ride quality. As motorway comfort seems to be one of the strongest arguments for buying a Vectra, maybe it would be worth seeing if the dealer could swap them for 16 or 17"ers. Er, would that be ´deblinging´?

This must have been one of the best adverts for Toyota they ever had. I know someone that went out and bought a Toyota pickup on the strength of what they did to it on Top Gear.
