Unusual Number plates - John Doubledime

I am looking for enlightenment on number plates.

Recently I have seen two number plates which puzzled me.

One was three numerals "X" then three numerals e.g 123X456.

The other was five or six numerals without any alphabetletters.

Can anyone confirm that "PL" is the country code for Poland and if so what is the code for Portugal.

Regards to the backroomers I met at the Ace Cafe.

Best wishes

John 55.

I think 123X456 is a diplomatic plate?

PL is Poland. I think Portugal is PT - it certainly is in other systems although car plates don't alwats correlate.

Stop putting yourself down, patently. You don't alwats get it wrong, and some dats your typing is impeccable.

Since 1979 diplomatic vehicles have a registration consisting of a number indicating the embassy or organization, a letter and a serial number.
The letter is D for diplomats and X for other staff.

I think the all number reg. is Guensey.

Talking about strange number plates, I've noticed that around Essex I suddenly seem to be seeing a noticeable amount of cars carrying LT plates. Looking it up I was surprised to see that LT is Lithuania, no reason why they shouldn't be here but Lithuania is hardly a near neighbour to Essex! Just wondered if anyone knows why the sudden influx.

I'd imagine it's got something to do with them joining the EU so they've come here to work.

Ahhhh, slipped my mind that they are now part of EU, lost count of who's in or out now. That would account for why they've suddenly appeared over the last year or so.

LT

They are all off the Cuxhaven/Harwich ferry

That would explain the A12 ones but we get loads in Southend in the evenings, probably down from the smoke for the clubs, casinos, etc.
Mostly shiny new BMW's and MB's, occupants always look well dressed but they seem to use McDonalds and KFC!
