Predictably my buyer has got cold feet concerning buying my ZT, so getting my new car from an internet broker is a non-starter now.
I saw a vectra at a dealer last night (vauxhall specialist). Its a sep 04 (54) Vectra 2.2 direct Sri. 10,000m, sat nav, leather seats, 19" alloys (!!). £12995
What do you think of this price considering the extras. I drive the 3.2s every day at work and think they're generally ok. I have never monitored the values so I'm not sure if this is expensive or not. Read more
Heres the Friday afternoon silly question.

Link is fine, subject matter is swaying WAY off motoring (although I like the old one about Gloria being unwell).
Detention in the form of a locked thread if this doesn't get back on motoring in 3....2....1....

Hi mileage though in good order, its now using a lot of fuel - having previously been very frugal! I've replaced "O" ring in inlet manifold (completely knackered)and autochoke does now get hot when running. I suspect wax stat and/or Pull down lever!
Any advice on how to determine the more likely ? or indeed any other possibilities ? Any decent sites on setting of auto choke ? Haynes manual not generally very useful!! Read more

At the beginning of February I discovered I had been mis-sold a used car warranty by a used car dealership, purchased back in October 2004. I queried it with them at the beginning of February on a Thursday, at which point they refuted the fact. On that day they mentioned they were moving premises, but didn't give a time frame and I stupidly didn't ask. Come the following Monday, their telephone & fax numbers were unobtainable and website had vanished.
I visited their premises a few weeks later (it's a long drive & I was busy with my wife giving birth to our 2nd child) to find an entirely new unrelated business there. The owner of the new business told me he didn't know what had become of the car dealership since he had leased the premises through an agent.
Having spoken to Trading Standards about the situation, they tell me they are unable to assist finding out what has become of the business.
I've tried umpteen searches through Google but it hasn't found anything useful, only links relating to their old site.
Is anyone able to offer any suggestions? If it's of any help I have their VAT number..
All help most appreciated!

I had a similar problem a few years ago with a car hire company who I hired a faulty car from, and they owed me money. They disappeared and according to the Companies House wensite (very handy!) went into liquidation. Therefore there was nothing I could do to get back what I was owed. It's a loophole in the law that seems to get exploited; rip a load of customers/victims off, then 'go bust', and start up another business with a mate as director. A pity no-one does anything about it.
All,
A friend of mine has just picked up a second hand car. It?s a 2000 (W) Vauxhall Vectra 2.0 CDX Dualfuel. It has 95k on the clock and has FSH. He paid £3k for it. I saw the car last night and it seems in top notch condition (although there was no owners manual so he can?t work out how to use the onboard computer!).
Is that price good for the car? Please, no Vectra-bashing, I know what some people?s opinions are?..
Cheers,
DB

He paid £3k for it. Is that price good for the car?
Getting back to DB's original question,
Part-exchange Price:
Excellent condition: £2530
Average condition: £2240
Below average condition: £1940
Depending on whether it was a private sale, or from a garage:
If the former, then he's quite possibly paid over the odds.
if it the latter, then it all depends on what mark up they have between buying cars and selling them on.
But at the end of the day as long as he's happy with his purchase, that's all that counts.
As per previous thread, I want to get a new or nearly new Rover V8. Can anyone with trade sources, possibly even HJ tel me:
1) Has the collapse been factored into trade prices already by the "smart" money?
2) Are prices likely to fall a lot?
3) Is there likely to be an auction at some point of a load of Rovers in a fire sale way.
I know it is too early to say for certain re above, but an educated guess by some traders would really help me. Read more
I actually want to buy a Rover

Have just bought one of those buffer polisher things from B&Q (£15). There are two applicators - one is woolly and fluffy the other isn't. Which one do I put the polish on with and which is the polisher - get the impression from the chinese instructions that it is the fluffy one that applies it, but not sure? Read more
When you tie them on make em as tight as you can then tuck the line back under the pad,
My pads were elasticated around the top. Never had a problem with them coming off, just a problem with getting the thing to rotate.
Folks,
The pressed steel hub covers on my alloys are secured by steel bolts which have snapped due to severe corrosion.
I've drilled them out, and plan to tap them out to an oversize.
Excuse the engineering ignorance, but can anyone supply "Top Three Tips". Any advice on lubricant to use?
I have not done this work since Mr Peart's 3rd year metalwork class circa 1975...

I agree with DD, but in addition (if the holes are now a bit dodgy) I would suggest securing the inserts with Loctite. Consult a Loctite agent regarding the best grade to use. Just make sure that the Loctite is fully activated/dried before putting the bolts back in or you could end up in a similar boat to the one in which you are currently!

Am taking delivery of new car today, selling the old one privately - esure want £85 to keep the old one on temporary cover for a month (annual premium is normally £350).

No help to you now, but Direct Line gave me a free one month cover note for my old car when I changed over to a newer one.

Can anyone tell me if the Omega 2.5V6 was ever fitted with the C25XE?
I have the chance of getting a 1994 Omega V6 engine to use the heads on a 1996 Vectra V6 that had a cambelt breakage.
I know all Vectra were X25XE, and the Calibra had both (Cavialier only C25XE).
Any ideas?
Cheers

I seem to remeber HJ saying that the 19" alloys looked ´bling´ but destroyed the ride quality. As motorway comfort seems to be one of the strongest arguments for buying a Vectra, maybe it would be worth seeing if the dealer could swap them for 16 or 17"ers. Er, would that be ´deblinging´?
